SAN JUAN FORTRESS TURRET
Welcome to the only Puerto Rican cultural district in the
United States. Paseo Boricua was established in 1995
and serves as the historic home of Chicago’s Puerto
Rican community and the heart of the Humboldt Park
neighborhood about four miles from downtown. Today it’s
part of a diverse neighborhood with a variety of activities
for everyone!

Vibrant outdoor murals found along the Paseo Boricua
The fortress in Puerto Rico’s capital city of
San Juan dates back to 1783. Its iconis turrets
remain a symbol of the island today.

Plantains look like large bananas and are a
staple in tasty meals. They are served fried,
baked, or mashed and called mofongo.

murals in the country. These vibrant works of public art
reflect community culture, values, politics, and history. The
murals attract thousands of visitors annually.
