Traditional Medicine
without Borders
This two-week course will provide
information on the history of
Curanderismo (the art of Mexican Folk
Healing) in the Southwest and Mexico.
Exploring an integrative approach to
medicine and featuring demonstrations
that incorporate Curanderismo with
various traditional and holistic health
techniques, such as: creation of a sacred
space; herbs & rituals; ceremonial use of the temazcal; energetic
cleansings, limpias; herbal smoke, moxa; medicine of the drum; mayan
abdominal massage; firecupping, ventosas; juice therapy, jugo terapia;
death and healing; intestinal blockage, empacho; spiritual cleansings,
limpias; laugh therapy, risa terapia; shawl alignments, manteadas; and
Mayan acupuncture. The course will use instructors who are researchers
in the field, healers, and health practitioners from UNM, Mexico, the
Southwest, and the Albuquerque community.
A materials fee of $50 will be collected at the time of registration.
