CD’s report.
Even though we got a few rides in March, April starts our 2015 riding season. Read our newsletter,
check our calendar and you will see the scheduled rides. We start with our Ready to Ride Day at
Rodney’s garage, a Michigan Ride To Eat Ride to Redamak’s for lunch at South Haven, our annual
ride to the Maple Syrup Festival in Vermontville, and ending April with The Blessing of the Bikes in
Holland. That's not saying that there might be a few nonscheduled rides. Let me know if you want to
ride somewhere. Please read the newsletter and calendar. Let's hope the cold changes to warmer
weather.
Your SCD EZRA.
HAPPY EASTER
We hope you all have a very HAPPY EASTER! (However you celebrate! Though the calendar says
“SPRING”, the weather doesn’t think so, since we had a dusting of that white stuff yesterday
evening! Bur Spring is here and we are just waiting for the weather to cooperate.
We had a great weekend at Wingless Weekend, meeting our friends from other chapters around
the state, some from Canada, Ohio, Indiana, and some from Region D. We went to some seminars,
too. The District team chose our District Couple of the Year 2015, Bob and Marcia Kinsey from
Chapter MI-W, and selected the Chapter of the Year 2015, Chapter MI-N Muskegon Port City Wing
Riders. If you go to the District Webpage, you will see their photos! Our chapter is hoping to
achieve this for 2016 with your help! Come to our gathering to find our how.
We want to thank Chapter MI-G for your nomination for us to become your Senior Chapter
Directors. Harry, Marcia, and Howard did the paperwork and sent it to Michigan District. We
received the honor at Wingless Weekend.
Our chapter’s anniversary party was a great sign of friendship. Many chapters around the sate
attended, such as our ADD’s Bill and Linda Diffin, Chapters S-2, J-2, G-2, K-2, N and our chapter
had several new members! Thank you all for
making our party a success!
AND the big news is we selected our Couple of the
Year for 2015!
We present to you as our 2015 Couple of the Year:
Rodney and Dar! Congratulations to you.

GROUP RIDING PROBLEMS AND POINTS FOR DISCUSSION
• Only a portion of the group makes it through a light before it changes
• Turning at an intersection that allows other vehicles to divide the group
• 4 way stop intersection procedures
• Not all riders can pass a vehicle or vehicles safely
• Preventing a “Yo-Yo” effect
• Common sense and legal road rules
• Keeping the group together in a group
Stopping for Traffic Signal Devices
Always remain alert, with your bike in gear. When stopping in traffic for whatever reason, tighten the group.
That is, stop in a two abreast or side by side formation. This will condense the group; close the gap and
thereby allowing for a more expedient transition through the intersection. After proceeding through the
intersection, reestablish a staggered riding formation.
GWRRA TEAM RIDING MNUAL (Pages 8-9)
STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT
When it is necessary for the team to stop at a traffic signal, all team members should stop in a position of
almost two abreast (still slightly staggered). Each rider should still have a slight “space” safety advantage of the
staggered formation. This “compressed” staggered formation will help keep the line of traffic behind the team
as short as possible. While waiting for the signal to change, each rider in the compressed formation should wait
directly behind the rider in front. When the team leaves the “compressed” formation at a traffic light, the #2
bike, which is stopped slightly behind and to the right of the Lead, will move out only after the Lead has
traveled far enough forward so that any sudden sideways movement will not result in a collision.
The other team members start, in turn, and in the same manner, leaving the Drag the last to move. When the
team moves from a stopped position, the Lead should accelerate at a rate that will allow all team members to
get re-grouped as soon as possible. Each team member should do so quickly but safely. The Drag will inform
the Lead when all bikes are through the light, so riding speed can be attained. No rider should accelerate next
to, or past any team member who is in front, either while traveling or while stopped. This can lead to a very
dangerous situation.
STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN
When stopping at a stop sign, the team should come to a stop in a compressed staggered formation as
described above. The Lead should wait until the entire team is stopped before proceeding . When the Lead
determines that the intersection is clear, he/she should proceed through the intersection (either straight through
or by executing the appropriate turn). Bike # 2 must then decide, ON THEIR OWN, when to proceed following
the Lead. Each successive bike will in turn approach the intersection and choose the safe opportunity to enter
the intersection. At no time should the team attempt to enter the intersection as a group or in pairs. Each
rider must be responsible for their action at each intersection.
