institutions situated in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is gratifying to know that several of these achievements
were made possible because of the untiring effort and extreme involvement of team - BSMED. The visit to
Kwansei University, Gakuin, Osaka, Japan made it possible for a collaborative research and exchange

programme. The Axis '11 is moving towards its best to be organized on 20th December, 2011. The
inquiries and visits by corporate relating to placements for the students are encouraging. I hope and wish

during the first few days of campus recruitment programme 2012, would record a maximum number of
students being placed. The state of art Computer Center (78 tables) and the new office are added features
of BSMED. I wish all success for the students.

Seminar on ‘Strategic Decision Making’
Symposium on Nurturing Entrepreneurial Talent
A symposium on 'Nurturing Entrepreneurship Talent' and Business Plan Competition was conducted on
18.3.2011 at BSMED to give an empirical approach to the participants through panel discussion
and business plan competition. The entrepreneurs who participated in the programme were Mr. Bharathi,
Air Master Technologies (P) Ltd., SIDCO, Coimbatore, Mr. Sumesh K
Menon, MD and CEO, Sinds Online Pvt. Ltd., Cochin, Mr. Shriram
Shankar, Chairman and Managing Director, Synchron Group,
Coimbatore and Mrs. G. Keerthana, Executive Director, Centre Stage,
Chennai. The panel discussion was followed by the business plan
competition, wherein eight teams presented their plans to the jury, of
which the best three plans were chosen. The jury members rewarded
the winners.
NEN E-Week Celebrations
NEN E-Week programme was held in BSMED from 2-2-2011 to 9-2-2011. During the E-Week celebrations
various competitions like Rs. 50 competition, Cover Story, Think inside the Box, E-Week in Schools were
held. The valedictory session was presided over by Mr. Jagannathan Seshadhri, NEN Regional Consultant,
Coimbatore, who in his special address highlighted that the country needed entrepreneurs now, more than
any other time. He placed emphasis on the fact that innumerable opportunities are available to students
and urged the students to make effective use of it. He also added that success can be accomplished only by
sheer hard work, perseverance and learning, through every walk of life.
A seminar on 'Strategic Decision Making' by Mr. Ramesh
Chandran, Senior Consultant, AAM (Aegon Asset
Management), Netherlands was conducted on 07.12.2011 at
BSMED. The need for strategic decision making in today's
global market and its application in the primary and supportive
activities of firm was best brought out by Mr. Ramesh. The
session was lively and interactive with case discussion. He also
emphasized that social networking has become an integral
part in the job market and that stepping into a corporate world
needs effective networking.
Orientation for 27th Batch
A three day orientation programme 'Convergenz-Exploring New Horizons' for the freshers of MBA 2011 was
held from 20-7-2011 to 22-7-2011 at BSMED. Mr. R. Varadharajan, Director, Rajshree Sugars and
Chemicals delivered the inaugural address, emphasized the growth of Indian economy in turbulent times
and stressed that Indian economy is a role model for struggling economies like US, European Union. It was
followed by interaction with faculty members and introduction to clubs and associations. During second day
of the orientation programme, Mrs. Amudha Kannan, Senior Reporter, The Hindu, enlightened students on
the topic 'Enhancing Presentation Skills' and brought out the various facets of effective presentation. A
session on 'Industry Expectations' was handled by Mr. Vignesh Rajamanickam of The Consultancy House,
talked about the needed survival techniques for succeeding in globalized era. Third day of the orientation
included alumni and freshers interaction, which was followed by Mr. Charles Godwin, Deputy Manager-HR,
365 Media who accentuated on the topic 'Expectations from an MBA'. The three day orientation programme
concluded with a session on 'Preparing for the Corporate World' by Dr. R. Venkatapathy, Director, BSMED.
The orientation programme was coordinated by the faculty team.
Seminar on 'Building Self-Efficacy'
A Workshop on ‘Entrepreneurs : The Next Generation’
A workshop on 'Entrepreneurs: The Next Generation and A road show on the American Library' was
conducted in BSMED on 23.9.2011 by Mr. Prem Kumar and Ms. Shantha Kumari, Resource persons,
American Library. The benefits and facilities available at the American Library was explained in detail by
Mr. Prem Kumar and the ways through which students can make best use of it was elucidated by Ms.
Shantha Kumari. It was followed by students' presentation on an array of topics such as Entrepreneurship,
Survival of entrepreneurship during recession period, Space management at home, which threw light on the
traits that an entrepreneur needs to possess, real-life examples and efficient management of resources
respectively.
UGC Research Grant
Dr. V. Ramanujam, Assistant Professor, BSMED, has been granted a major research project by the University
Grants Commission entitled, 'Investment pattern among working women managers in stock market
operations with reference to selected districts in Tamil Nadu. The project is for a period of two years from
1-2-2011 to 31-1-2013 and a sum of Rs. 4, 80,000/- has been sanctioned.
A seminar on 'Building Self-Efficacy' was held on 7.2.2011 at
BSMED by Dr. Lipi Mukhopadhyay, IIPA, New Delhi. In her
keynote address, she emphasized that students should be able to
analyze their strengths and competencies, and the efforts
needed to achieve success. She stressed that, one need to
capitalize on strengths, work on weakness and also added that
constant effort is the key to success.
Union Budget-2011: An Analysis
An analysis on the Union Budget 2011 was held at BSMED on 3.3.2011. An array of topics like – History of
Indian Budget, Basics of Budget, Economic Survey and Budget Evaluation were presented by students. The
resource persons for the meet were Dr. V. Anbumani, Director, School of Distance Education and
Dr. K. Govindarajulu, Professor, Department of Economics, Bharathiar University. The discussion was
centered on the various fiscal and tax policies and their impact on budget. The effect of budget on industries
like IT and Textile was dealt in detail.
