their own personal festival, but they’re certainly not the
only wildlife inhabiting the fields, forests, rivers and
streams of Transylvania County.

BREWERIES
Beer, bikes, and bluegrass: it seems wherever you find
one, you find the others. And nowhere is that more
true than in Transylvania County. Thanks to our pristine
water, avid bike culture and thriving music scene, we
are now home to two premier craft breweries. We invite
you to sample their fine lagers, ales, pilsners and stouts
(responsibly, of course) on your next visit.
BREVARD BREWING COMPANY
Brevard’s pioneering first brewery specializes in lagers.
Brewmaster and owner Kyle Williams regards this style
as one of the most rewarding to produce. Sample their
flagship German-inspired lager -- or one of their pilsners
or ales -- at 63 E. Main St. in Brevard. Williams keeps
things hopping with live music just about every evening.
OSKAR BLUES
Dale Katechis, owner and founder of this Colorado-based
brewery, has kept a mountain bike parked in Brevard for
years. When it came time to open an East Coast brewery,
Katechis knew that Transylvania would be the perfect
spot to put down roots. The Oskar Blues Brewery (tours
available) and Taproom resides in a warehouse just a
couple miles from downtown Brevard and a quick pedal
from Pisgah Forest at 342 Industrial Drive, Brevard.

SUMMER CAMPS
For nearly 100 years, kids have arrived here armed
with rucksacks, footlockers and stationery to spend
their summers at one of our many noteworthy camps.
So beloved are these summertime homes-away-fromhome that many former campers return decades later
to seek out the sacred spots where they first learned to
dive, shoot an arrow, ride a horse, paddle a canoe and
conquer homesickness.

Brevard’s white squirrels are legendary and a unique addition
to the local landscape. They came to the area through a series
of coincidences starting with a carnival truck that overturned in
Florida in the late 1940’s. Today, Brevard is home to a healthy
population of the striking and beautiful creatures. If you’ve never
seen one, your first sighting can be a thrill. They can be spotted
all over town. But your best chance for a guaranteed sighting
is on the campus of Brevard College. Not particularly studious,
they like to hang out along the creek that runs through campus
and on the lawn surrounding the main entrance.

6.
Be especially careful when you are taking photographs. Many times, photographers become more focused on taking a photo rather than securing their footing. Make sure you are in a safe, solid location before taking photographs.
1. Stay on developed trails and don’t stray from observation decks and platforms.
2. Follow instructions posted at all waterfalls and trails.
7. To insure your safety on the rocks and trails, never visit waterfalls or hike alone.
8. Bring your cell phone in case you need to make a call for assistance.
