On behalf of the Township and our residents, I am
pleased to welcome you to Muskoka Lakes. Within
our almost 800 square kilometers of spectacular
scenery, comprised of island studded lakes, Canadian
Shield outcroppings and mixed forests, you will find
something for everyone,
Many of our 35,000 seasonal residents return to Muskoka Lakes each summer from Toronto,
the USA and the four corners of the Earth to renew relationships with family and friends,
“recharge their biological batteries” and reabsorb the Muskoka Experience.
Like a fine wine, to appreciate Muskoka Lakes you need to spend time to savour the subtle
complexities, with all your senses.
Winter to me, is our frozen lakes, crisp white snow and millions of stars on a frigid winter evening.
Try ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing or just relaxing by a wood fire.
You will find restaurants and accommodations ranging from basic good quality to five star resorts.
Port Carling’s Winterfest, in early February is always good fun for people of all ages.
Summer is the time to enjoy many of our 80 pristine soft water lakes. Swimming, fishing, water
skiing and perhaps a ride in a classic wooden boat, to view Muskoka’s trademark 2 story
multi-slip boathouses, should be on everyone’s bucket list. Summer is also the time to enjoy
Muskoka’s cuisine, our shops, artist studios and play a round of golf at one of our renowned
golf courses or just soak up the sun on a dock or at the beach.
Fall is my favorite season. The cavalcade of colours says it all. By the end of September and
into early October each year our mixed hardwoods, especially the maples turn brilliant shades of
yellow, orange and red. The hillsides turn into a beautiful pallet of colours. I would encourage
you to spend some time kicking the leaves in our numerous parks and on our trails. Entry is
free and many of the views are spectacular. The Cranberry Festival in Bala (the Cranberry
Capital of Ontario), is the weekend after Thanksgiving. It becomes more popular every year –
you won’t want to miss it.

Bala Farmers’ Market has been offering locals, visitors and summer residents amazing
products for the past 13 years! Come by car or boat, Bala Farmers’ Market is located at the
centre of town every Monday from the end of June until Labour Day.
Port Carling Farmers’ Market is open every Thursday at Hanna Park, located on the beautiful
Indian River. This market features the best food, produce and artistry in Muskoka. Hanna
Park offers visitors a wonderful beach and playground. Come to shop and stay to play.

Go for a Hike on our Trails
Discover the rocks, trees and water through our trail system. Climb to the top of Huckleberry
Rock to overlook Lake Muskoka (one of our best views). Hike through the Torrance Barrens
where you will experience on of the most striking geological areas in Muskoka, also a dark
sky reserve at night. Hardy Lake Provincial Park provides hiking access to the shores of
both Hardy Lake and Lake Muskoka, two of the most picturesque and rugged shorelines,
characteristic of the lake-studded Precambrian rock landscape of Muskoka. Park your car at
Walker’s Point Recreation Centre and Library and prepare to enjoy 4 kilometers of woodland
trails designed with active seniors in mind. This year round, well marked trail can be enjoyed

See ‘The Wall’ in Port Carling
The 111-by-45-foot photo mosaic, affectionately called The Wall, provides a breathtaking
welcome to Port Carling. It comprises 9,028 pictures that together create the image of the
RMS Sagamo passing through the Port Carling locks circa 1922. The Port Carling Wall is the
world’s largest historic photo mosaic, located at the locks in Port Carling, see photo page 39.
