11. Tree of Life
Designed by artist, Helen Cole Lew, in
collaboration with members from the Kids
& Art Foundation. The image is of an
elegant tree that stands in a field with
outstretched branches and the sun shining
in the background. Each inspiring and
whimsical, heartshaped flower was
created by the
children,
and
subsequently
painted onto the
tree by the artist.
The artist's vision
is that "The rising
sun offers hope
with each new day.

In 2012, city leaders saw a need for a community based art project to deter the
problem of unsightly graffiti and drab utility boxes.

The Utility Box Mural Project was launched under the direction of the Cultural
Arts Commission, and with Parks & Recreation Department staff overseeing the
administration. Kelly-Moore Paints of South San Francisco generously donated
paints and supplies in support of the project.
