New Things, Summer Highlights

There were great highlights this summer of new things that God is raising up in
our midst and greater possibilities as we pursue the fall.

Summer Highlights
Between our Malvern and Damascus Campuses of DFC we baptized 75
people. There would be story after story of new things that God is doing in
these people’s lives since they have taken Jesus seriously and trusted Him
completely
Though it lasted only a day, our Bible School and “float” building at Malvern was
unbelievable. Not only did our children work hard to put together a float, they
got first place. Added to this, at our Damascus Campus, our week long
Vacation Bible School in June plus the weekend middle school trip to the
Creation Museum in early August, brought our VBS total to over 300 children
and workers. When added with Malvern, the number goes over 350.
It’s not every day that a church buys a public school. Although, this has
happened, it is even rarer that the public school rents back their facility from
the church. We soon will finalize the purchase of the Malvern School Facility.
It is a great blessing as we dream and we ask God how he wants us to fully
use the 6 acres and 130,000 plus square feet that we will soon own in
Malvern. As the years roll, I believe we will use every inch of that facility.
Fall Possibilities
Currently our staff and elders are dreaming about a new church campus to our
east. We are currently in negotiations for the right location and are now
setting benchmarks for what that will look like for us this fall. Stay tuned for
further details this fall.
Starting in Sept., we will have over 20 Connect Groups available to our people.
In this newsletter you will find the groups that will meet at the church on
Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights and all over our community in our “on
location sites” (OLS). Please pay careful attention and sign up – IT WILL BE
WORTH IT!
Over these years that we have been together, God has been doing a new thing in
our midst. I can’t tell you how thankful I am to all the people that make this
happen. I didn’t even mention above, all that God is doing in Celebrate Recovery
as they have had record attendance even in the summer months. These are all
new things that God is doing all around us. I love serving a God who is always up
to something new. We will do our best to keep up with our great God as we enter
full speed into the fall season.

Greetings! Where has the time gone? Fair time is in the air. Students, teachers
and administrators are gearing up for success. Children will let go of summer
freedom. Our timely Bible verse for August is from I Peter 2:17a: “Show proper
respect to everyone.” Stressing about new demands can stretch our manners.
“Everyone” means “all.” :) This action packed season gives opportunities to
show respect to our family and “everyone” we see. We have seen many visitors
throughout the summer. Lately Breanna Winters spoke to us about Camp
Gideon and the many wonderful activities the camp has to offer plus friendships
to make! She was a counselor to many of our students. How wonderful that
parents have encouraged this faith building experience! We enjoyed a visit by
Molly St. John, who shared about her recent Youth Group Trip to the Creation
Museum in Kentucky and Camp Gideon camp. Her power point pictures of the
Creation Museum were appreciated too! Tanner Perkins joined us over at the
flagpole in July. He kept us up to speed with how God is at work in his life,
summer work and horse drawn wagon rides on 534. To support the Haiti effort,
our class donated 29 pairs of shoes/sandals for the Haitians this summer. On
August 31st our class will give special recognition to 3 growing students: Amelia
Bartholow, Belle Francis and Julia Kelly. God’s blessings to them as they
advance. Any student who will enter 6th grade will move into their new class 9/1/.
Thankfully serving,

Sports & Fitness
If you have a heart for kids, teens, adults and sports/fitness and are looking to get involved call
Mark and Sue Cosma or Rachel Hancock or call the DFC office and they will pass the information on.
Welcome Sports fans!
This summer is an exciting one. DFC sports was privileged to be
in charge of the Salem Church Softball League which consisted
of 8 teams. The League Commissioner was Mike Seidel who did
an outstanding job. We're also grateful to report that our DFC
Malvern team finished in a strong 2nd. place. The DFC Malvern
team was managed by Steve Deckerd.
Also, new this year was the DFC Golf
League. There were 18-20 co-ed golfers ranging
from great to never before golfed. The league
played at the Damascus Pine Meadows
course. What a great connect group in which players
reached out to others to witness that Christian
athlete's know how to have fun and laugh as well as
play hard.
As exciting as this Summer was…
this Fall and Winter are going to unbelievable!
On September 21 the legendary basketball
star Jerry Lucas will be speaking in our
morning services. Jerry was on 2 high
school state championship teams, a
national championship team at Ohio State,
won an Olympic gold metal and won an
NBA Championship.
Then on September 24-25 Maurice Clarette from NCAA
championship OSU football team will be speaking in area
schools and at Celebrate Recovery on 9/25.
K-1 & 2-3 basketball will begin on October 25 and will
run through Nov. 15. This is a co-ed program where
fundamentals are taught by our crack DFC basketball
staff.
Middle School Basketball (which is also co-ed) begins
Dec. 6th.
H/S Basketball is a boys league and it begins Dec. 6th
Low impact volleyball league, (co-ed) starts Nov. 17th
For those looking to really add some fire, we have the
high Impact Volleyball League which is run by Kurt
Coffee.
We have so much more in the way of sports for adult men and
women as well, and by watching the DFC web site and checking
the sports and fitness table near the gym for registration forms
and information you'll never miss a thing.
If you're wondering where you can help build God's kingdom and
use your love of sports and be involved in some way ...we at DFC
Sports and Fitness want to sit down and listen to you. Just let the
DFC office know or let Mark and Sue Cosma or Rachel Hancock
know. Please pray for the sports & fitness ministry for wisdom,
safety and above all saving souls.
