Dear Parents / Guardians,
We celebrated our 32nd Birthday on 29 October. The children
and staff enjoyed a lovely picnic on the field during the last hour
of the day. We were lucky and relieved that the sun came out to
make it possible.

Thank you to all our Grade 6 parents who supported
the meeting on Tuesday evening, 29 October. This was
a valuable, worthwhile and positive event to share
ideas. With supportive, involved parents like these we
look forward to a fantastic Grade 7 year. Discussions to
address this are already underway.
Our Grade R learners will be having their first Prize Giving
Ceremony tomorrow – Time flies when you’re having fun!
They have certainly grown in many ways and we are very
proud of them. Congratulations!
We advise that Extra Mural Activities (except cricket matches)
will end on Friday, 8 November. Learners will not be allowed
to stay after school during the exam period and arrangements
must be made for them to be collected in order to study at
home!

LEARNERS NOT RETURNING IN 2014
PROCEDURE FOR END OF THE YEAR
Please inform the School in
writing, indicating the last
day and the reason for
leaving, if your child is not
returning to Glenstantia in
2014. Thank you to the parents who have
informed us accordingly already.
Reports will be issued to
learners
at
10:00
on
Wednesday, 4 December
2013. Should your child not
be at school, the report can be collected from
reception from 10:30 – 12:00.
Transfer Cards and Reports : Please note
that should your child leave before the last
day of the term a Transfer Card will be
issued. The school reports will only be
available on Wednesday, 4 December and
not earlier. You may leave a self-addressed
stamped envelope or you may collect the
report between 10:30 – 12:00 from
Reception.
The Office will be closed at 12:00 on
Wednesday, 4 December and re-open on
Monday and Tuesday, 13 and 14 January
from 08:00 – 13:00. Class Lists for 2014 will
be available by Tuesday,
14 January at 10:00 in the
school tunnel or on the
School Communicator.
The office will be open as normal from
Wednesday, 15 January from 07:30 – 14:00.
2014 STATIONERY ALTERNATIVES:
GRADE R AND 1 2014
2014 Stationery lists for Grade 4 – 7 learners
have been distributed and are available on
the School Communicator and website.
Certain brands were listed because of their
quality and durability.
Staedtler Brand Pencils listed
are a must as they last longer
especially after being dropped.
For our learners who have been accepted
into Grade R and 1 in 2014, including our
current Grade R’s - letters regarding the getto-know the school party and first day of
school information are available at Reception
or from our web page www.glenstantia.co.za
or www.school-communicator.com
Other items such as Glue Sticks and
enclosed pencil sharpeners need to be of
good quality, the brand names mentioned on
the list are some of the brands known for
their quality. Please do not buy the cheapest
item (e.g. cheap glue sticks used to stick
pages in become unstuck over a short period
of time and pages fall out).
PROJECTS / HOMEWORK / BOOKS
No learner will be allowed to print out projects or any homework on the day they are
due. No projects emailed to the school will be printed and no exceptions will be made.
Should your child require printing, this can be arranged with Mrs Uys or Mrs Nieuwoudt
in the Computer Centre. Please plan ahead as printing should be done at least 2 days
prior to the project being due.
Learners will NOT be allowed to phone parents to bring forgotten books, homework or projects
etc. We strongly recommend that your child be given a phone card for this purpose. The decision
to “drop off” the project or homework or book remains with the parent. Should you decide to drop
off the item, the child will only be called down at break to collect as we will not interrupt a lesson
for this tardiness.

GENERAL ASSISTANT CHRISTMAS HAMPERS
We have a long standing tradition at Glenstantia Primary of giving our General Assistant staff
Christmas hampers at the end of the year. We again ask parents to please donate items of nonperishable food for these hampers, which are always very gratefully received. We also ask that
you donate 250g packets instead of 2,5kg packs as it can become challenging to share the items
equally. We currently have 12 GA staff members. The following items will be
welcome:
Canned fruit, canned veggies, maize meal, rice, pasta, sugar, tea, coffee, long life
milk, mix cold drink, treats for the children, custard, soup, etc.

Following on from a sold out season of Nutcracker in
November last year, Youth Dance Company of Tshwane has
decided to bring back our highly successful full length ballet,
the Snow Maiden.
The Snow Maiden will appear at the State Theatre from
7 – 10 November. Book seat through Computicket.
This Russian folktale ballet, is a story which weaves a web of
betrayal, from the icy forest to the wintry festival of activity
culminates in the Tzar`s palace for the wedding of Coupava
