2009 was a pivotal year for KCSARC. We moved several key agendas and programs
forward and in the midst of the recession, were able to secure funding to not only
maintain our operations, but expand it. Thank you for your support!
We celebrate our successes with you. Some of you have been part of this effort since
the beginning and some of you have just been introduced to KCSARC. No matter
how long you have been a friend and supporter, know that your involvement has a
huge impact on the health and well-being of our children, families and the entire
community.

Ending the Silence through Voice, Courage & Change
KCSARC has grown to be the largest sexual assault victim's service organization in Washington, providing
direct comprehensive services for victims and families, free of charge. KCSARC is leading the conversation
about sexual assault for victims, their families and the community! We know, through education and
prevention there can be an end to sexual assault. Still, until we can put an end to sexual abuse, KCSARC is
there to help people put their lives back together. Through therapy, family services, legal advocacy and
our Spanish-speaking Dando Voz program we are changing the lives of victims and their families.
Three Decades of Dedication
On September 22nd supporters, friends and community leaders
gathered to celebrate Mary Ellen's 30th anniversary as
KCSARC’s Executive Director! Mary Ellen has fearlessly and
passionately dedicated herself to bringing the topic of sexual
assault to the forefront and ensuring high-quality services to
victims of sexual assault and their families. This celebration was
generously hosted by long-time friends and KCSARC supporters
Bill and Janette Adamucci.

Newly Equipped!
Through generous foundation support from Boeing Employees Community Fund and the McEachern Foundation,
KCSARC was able to upgrade equipment in one of our Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) rooms and add
equipment to a second room to meet the growing demand for this effective parent education program. PCIT is an
evidenced-based program for parents whose children, as a result of physical or sexual abuse, have serious behavior
problems. Through participation in 12-20 sessions, parents learn how to provide nurturing care enhanced by positive
discipline, thus reducing the likelihood of future abuse for their children. KCSARC is the only provider of English and
Spanish PCIT in the state, utilizing bi-lingual and bi-cultural staff.

$100,000 Grant Award
KCSARC received a competitive and prestigious $100,000 grant
award from the Washington Women’s Foundation to expand our
Spanish-speaking Dando Voz program. Of the more than 260
nonprofit organizations that submitted letters of inquiry, we were
selected by members of the Foundation as the award recipient in the
Health category. “Through our rigorous research and review process,
Dando Voz emerged as a vital community program that will reach
even more children and families through our financial support,” said
Carla Lewis, Washington Women’s Foundation President.

SALSA
Through the assistance of a two year grant beginning in 2009, KCSARC officially began a partnership with the Sexual Violence Law
Center (SVLC) to create the Sexual Assault Legal Services and Assistance (SALSA) program. SALSA is dedicated to providing holistic legal
services to survivors of sexual violence in King County with civil matters such as safety, housing, employment, education, privacy,
immigration and family law. As part of the SALSA program, two of KCSARC’s Legal Advocates provide program coordination, client
intake and screening, referrals, community outreach and advocacy support to SALSA clients. Through SALSA, designated KCSARC Legal
Advocates conduct comprehensive interviews to screen for unmet civil legal needs and then refer those victims to a SVLC Attorney for
legal representation. All SALSA clients have a KCSARC Legal Advocate and a SVLC Attorney to address their legal needs and social
welfare. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with the Sexual Violence Law Center so we can better service our clients and
the community!
Communities Come Together
Throughout the year community leaders and KCSARC
supporters gathered at various events and had the chance to
hear stories of individuals and families positively impacted by
KCSARC. The Seattle Breakfast raised more than $322,000 with
over 800 guests in attendance. In Enumclaw over $19,000 was
raised and in Renton over $25,000. Despite the rain, golfers hit
the green at “Golf for Good” and helped raise $41,800!

both mental and or physical, are some of the most
heinous crimes one can imagine that scars the victim
for the rest of their lives. Most victims suffer in silence. This is where KCSARC shines, both from a
