Type II PFD, Near-Shore BUOYANCY VEST intended for calm, inland
water or where there is a good chance of quick rescue. Type II will turn some
unconscious wearers to a face up position in the water. The turning action is
not as pronounced & it will not turn as many persons to a face up position
under the same conditions as a Type I. Adult size provides at least
15-1/2 lb. buoyancy Medium child provides 11 lb. Infant & small child sizes
each provide at least 7 lb. buoyancy.
Type III PFD, or FLOTATION AID: is good for calm, inland water, or
there is a good chance of quick rescue. Designed so wearers can place themselves in face up position in water. Wearer may have to tilt their head back to
avoid turning face-down in water. Type III has same minimum buoyancy as a
Type II PFD. It comes in many styles, colors, & sizes, is generally most comfortable type for continuous wear. Float coats, fishing vests, & vests designed
with features suitable for various sports uses are this type PFD.
Type IV PFD, or THROWABLE DEVICE, intended for calm, inland
water w/heavy boat traffic, where help is always present. Designed to
be thrown to a person in the water & grasped/held by user until rescued.
Not designed to be worn. Type IV devices include buoyant cushions,
ring buoys, and horseshoe buoys.
Type V PFD, or SPECIAL USE DEVICE, intended for specific activities
& may be carried instead of another PFD only if used according
to approval condition on that label. Some Type V devices provide significant
hypothermia protection. Varieties include deck suits, work vests, board
sailing vests, & Hybrid PFDs.
Type V PFD or HYBRID INFLATABLE, least bulky of all PFD types.
It contains small amount of inherent buoyancy, & an inflatable chamber. Its
performance is equal to a Type I, II, or III PFD (as noted on PFD label) when
inflated. Hybrid PFDs must be worn when underway to be acceptable.

phosphate dry chemical. It chemically insulates Class A fires by melting at approx. 350°F and

Automatic Engine Shutdown, Required for Diesel Engines
Compressed gas suppressants such as FE-241 will not stall diesel engine.
When fire breaks out aboard diesel powered vessel:
• Engines must be shut-down immediately for Fireboy fire system
to effectively extinguish fire.
• Continued engine operation may remove the agent, lowering level
required to effectively extinguish fire, making an Engine Shutdown System
necessary. Unit features integrated alarm, charged/discharged lights & override
switch for re-start.
