hamber members are still talking about the
most diverse and largest mixer in the history
of The Chamber of Medford/Jackson County called the
All-Chamber Sundowner, held on Thursday, May 20 at
the Rogue Valley Country Club and sponsored by South
Valley Bank & Trust.
More than 450 Chamber members from throughout
our region attended this three-hour event where business
leaders from chambers in Central Point, Eagle Point,
Grants Pass, Jacksonville, Klamath, Medford, Phoenix,
Talent and Yreka created numerous business leads in
an attractive setting and enjoyed some of the best food,
wine and beer in our region. The importance of such
a large and diverse networking opportunity cannot be
overstated, especially during such difficult economic
times. By bringing together business representatives from
throughout our region, this event promises to keep more
vital business dollars within our region.
All participating southern Oregon and northern
California chambers invited their chamber members to fill
the Country Club’s Valley Ballroom. Vendors included:
38 Central, Artistic Piano, Bridgeview Vineyards, Capps’
Speakeasy, Caprice Vineyards, Jacksonville Inn, Lillie
Belle Farms, Quady North Winery, Rising Sun Farms,
Rogue Creamery, Rogue Valley Country Club Catering,
RoxyAnnWinery, Shasta View Vineyards, Silver Ridge
Outfitters, South Stage Cellars, Southern Oregon Brewing
Company, Umpqua Dairy and Valley View Vineyards.
“This event was clearly one of the most well-attended
and powerful networking opportunities that The
Chamber has ever provided to its members,” says Paul
Coughlin, Vice President of Public Relations. “What was

We believe that when it comes to making decisions about healthcare coverage, flipping through a slick brochure is never going to be
good enough. We’d much prefer to talk one-on-one about the needs of your organization. That way you can ask as many questions
about our providers or preventive and wellness programs as you’d like — and we can make sure you get every answer you need.

Telestroke Network Launches
at Providence
The next stroke patient to arrive at Providence
Medford Medical Center could make history
by becoming the first patient treated through
the Providence Telestroke Network in southern
Oregon.
Using two-way video cameras over a secure
Internet connection, neurologists with Providence
Stroke Center in Portland, teaming with Medford
neurologists, help diagnose and treat stroke patients
as soon as they arrive in the emergency room at
Providence Medford. The neurologist in Portland
can review patient information, and examine and
talk with the patient, family members and Medford
physicians to determine the best course of treatment.
The Providence telestroke network enhances
services already provided by neurologists in
Medford, and improves the treatment and outcome
for stroke patients living in our communities.
“Once a patient has a stroke, every second counts,”
says Sandra Molzen, R.N., stroke program
coordinator, Providence Medford Medical Center.
“This partnership ensures immediate diagnosis
and treatment, and will help us to prevent the
debilitating effects of a stroke.”
Providence Medford Medical Center and
Providence Stroke Center are nationally certified
Primary Stroke Centers.

The Heart of Medford Association
Hires New Executive Director
John David Duffie, President of the Board of
Directors of the Heart of Medford Association
(HMA), announced that long-time area
businessman Richard Barney has been selected
as the Executive Director of the non-profit
organization.
The Heart of Medford exists to promote a
cooperative business environment in downtown
Medford as a regional center, working together to
enhance, support and advocate for businesses in the
downtown area. The HMA has two primary goals:
increase participation and cooperation of businesses
in the downtown area and bring foot traffic back to
the district.
Barney replaces Betsy Manuel, who retired from
the position in February after a successful twoyear tenure as Executive Director. Coincidentally,
Barney was the first director of the Heart of
Medford Association, known then as HOMA, in
1981 just prior to his joining the then new KRWQ.
For the past 15 years Barney has operated an
advertising, media, promotions and sales consulting
business. Since 1996 his main client has been
Southern Oregon Speedway, where he handled
sponsorship sales, advertising, public relations and
hospitality. He has also represented Lava Lanes/
Donnelly’s Sport Bar & Grill as marketing director,
along with Inpho Information on Hold messaging
service and sponsorships for the Pear Blossom
Festival Association.
Barney is involved as a volunteer in the Medford
community, including United Way, MDA and
others and is a member of the Greater Medford
Rotary Club. Currently Barney is the chairof the
Pear a Fare committee, which is responsible for the
new Pear Blossom Festival events, the in-restaurant
“Dare to Pear Challenge” and the “Pear a Fare”
vending event offering locally produced wine, brews
and artisan foods in Alba Park on Pear Blossom
Weekend.
“I am really looking forward to the challenges
ahead for our downtown area,” says Barney. “It’s
a transformational time for us and we’ll need to
be doing plenty of looking outside the box for
solutions.” He continued, “The programs (Main
Street & Transportation Management Association)
that the previous director put in place will serve as a
solid base to take downtown to the next level.”
Higher Education Center
Receives LEED Platinum Green
Building Certification
The RCC/SOU Higher Education Center
(HEC) in Medford, a building jointly owned
and managed by Rogue Community College
and Southern Oregon University, has received
LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green
Building Council. The HEC is the first building in
the Oregon University System with that distinction
and one of only a handful of LEED Platinum
certified university buildings in the western United
States.
LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design, is an internationally recognized green
building certification system, providing thirdparty verification that a building or community
was designed and built using strategies aimed
at improving performance across all the
sustainability measurements that matter most:
energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions
reduction, improved indoor environmental quality,
stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their
impacts.
“The Higher Education Center is a shining
example of SOU’s commitment to sustainability,”
says SOU President Mary Cullinan. “The building
beautifully supports our teaching and learning
mission as well as our commitment to the region.
We teach environmental, social, and financial
sustainability in our classrooms. This building
physically reflects our values as an institution.
We’re very proud to be green building pioneers and
to share this example of sustainability with our
regional partners.”
LEED certification for new construction is based
on a potential 69-point grading system. Depending
on the number of points achieved, a submitted
project could receive a rating of Certified, Silver,
Gold or Platinum. The highest level, Platinum,
requires a score of 52 points or more. The HEC
scored 54 points.
SOU Campus Planning and Sustainability
Officer Larry Blake has been shepherding the
project to LEED Platinum certification for four
years. “When I was taking technical training on
LEED New Construction, the instructor said
LEED Platinum Certification was a goal that was
almost impossible to achieve without incurring
extraordinary costs,” says Blake. “The Higher
Education Center proves that, with thoughtful
design, LEED Platinum Certification is possible for
many projects.”

Yellow Ribbon Career
and Benefits Fair
Employers Invited to Job Fair for Returning Oregon National Guard Troops.
Brigade Combat Team are returning from a
one-year deployment in Iraq. The good news is
that by all accounts this was a successful mission
performed by Oregon citizen soldiers who were
well-trained, well-led and well-equipped. The
bad news is that over 50 percent of these soldiers
do not have a job to come home to.
Oregon employers can do something about
this by giving these returning soldiers and their
families favorable consideration when filling
vacant positions. Those Oregon employers in a
position to increase the number of family-wage
jobs can make a huge difference in the lives of
Guard families facing a challenging economic
environment upon returning home from serving
their country.
To assist this effort, Oregon Senator Ron
Wyden is working with the Oregon National
Guard this summer on a series of job fairs across
the state. These job fairs will bring Oregon
employers and members of the National Guard
together and match up those who have jobs with
those who need jobs.
The southern Oregon Job Fair will be held
on Sunday, July 11 in southern Oregon. This
date has been chosen during an “active-dutyweekend” to ensure participation from our
honorable National Guard Troops.
“I would greatly appreciate the participation
of any and all Oregon employers who have or
anticipate having jobs and are looking for good
employees,” Wyden said. “We need to make
sure our Guard members, their children and
their families get the job opportunities and
other benefits they deserve as members of the
American military,” said Major General Fred
Rees, Adjutant General, Oregon National
Guard.
Any employer interested in more details or
in attending any or all of these job fairs can call
Traci Dow, Field Representative for US Senator
Ron Wyden at 541-858-5122 or email her at

Travel Trends, National Policies and Marketing Highlights Shape May Forum.
T
he President and CEO of the California
Travel & Tourism Commission, Caroline
Beteta, warned Forum attendees that our economic
signals are still mixed, which created a “sobering year
last year” but is also providing a noticeable uptick in
tourism-related industries.
Sponsored by the Visitors and Convention
Bureau (VCB), a department of The Chamber of
Medford/Jackson County, May’s Forum held at the
Rogue Valley Country Club on May 10 gave the
tourism industry reason to be cautiously optimistic,
explaining how our much anticipated recovery is
underway but will likely remain slower than many
want in the months ahead. Bolstering her case that
our economy is improving, Beteta pointed out
how our Gross Domestic Product increased 5.6%
in the fourth quarter of 2009. Rising stock prices,
stabilizing housing market, and gains in employment
are starting to encourage spending—especially
tourism spending, though she warned that the
spending will likely remain somewhat restrained in
the near future. This and more, she said, is creating
greater consumer confidence, which bodes well that
more and more people will resume their desire to
visit destination hotspots.
“Consumer confidence improved in March, but
it has a long way to go before it reaches what we have
grown accustomed to thinking as ‘normal,’” she said.
“You can have high gas prices and global instability,
and yet this doesn’t seem to really influence the
decision to travel. It’s really all about: does the
consumer have a job, have economic stability, and are
they inclined to travel?”
Virtual meetings are here to stay, she said,
impacting destination travel. “They will not replace
business travel because there is nothing like faceto-face contact in sales. But technology is a wonder
in some situations, and I think we’ll see less people
traveling or taking shorter trips—but never a total
replacement.”
To bolster the travel industry, leaders must focus
on what she calls the “Significant Six.” They include:
sustainable or green tourism; customization of trips
with the help of the Internet; transumerism, a two-
way dialogue between the provider and consumer in
terms of what is offered that defines the destination’s
brand and benefit to the consumer; attention to
the blur between business and leisure that can help
create a longer trip and greater spending; geotourism,
the factors that make your destination unique
compared to other travel possibilities to increasingly
savvy travelers; and value-value-value. “With the help

President/CEO of the California Travel &
Tourism Commission and Todd Davidson,
Executive Director of Travel Oregon.
of the Internet, there is total price transparency,”
she said. So in order to give the consumer the best
experience possible, those in the travel industry must
be providing the best value for the consumers’ dollar.
Beteta said that 2010 will be better than 2009,
and she is looking forward to an even better 2011.
She predicts that that domestic travel will increase
modestly, with business travel doing a little better
than leisure travel. There will be an increase in
international visitation and a top-down recovery
for the lodging industry. “We should welcome these
improvements,” she said, but should also be careful
to not confuse them for a return to what we think is
“normal.”
As the U.S. Travel Association National Chair,
Beteta is active on the federal level, having met with
President Obama, promoting tourism’s key role
in our nation’s economy. Her “big picture” travel
advocacy priorities, including expanding public
affairs through the recent implementation of the
Travel Promotion Act that brings the U.S. onto a
global stage to better compete with other countries
for visitors, promote why travel matters to our
economy, and champion the needs of the domestic
and international travel, including streamlining
screening at our nation’s airports.
Highlighting the importance of political
advocacy, Beteta said, “If we don’t have a favorable
environment with our elected officials on a local,
state and national level, then it’s almost impossible
for you to break through, especially since the last five
to 10 percent of your gross sales is actually where you
turn a profit.”
Advocacy is essential, she said, because, “If we
aren’t defining who we are as an industry and why
people should care about the economic impact we
create all over the United States—someone else is
going to define that value proposition for us.”
To create a favorable tourism climate in any
market, Beteta said that there must be strategic
planning that includes but isn’t limited to branding,
traditional media, web-based media, research, and
the travel trade with retail, restaurant and cultural
activities at the core of the visitor’s experience.

Not Just Windows Updates
Anymore.
You
What are Windows updates and why do I need them?
Once upon a time, Windows and Office were the only
applications that anyone was worried about updating. Now
that computing is driven by the Internet, there are many
more applications that can be targeted for malicious attacks.
Windows and application updates can be confusing because
as a user, knowing what updates you should and shouldn't
do isn't made very clear. Not to mention, 50% or more of
people that have automatic updates enabled have a problem
with them. Your machine restarts right in the middle of that
important document, or you come in the next morning to a
blue screen or error on your screen. Most people end up
turning them off, because they are annoying or go on
frustrated not knowing what to do.
The reality is that you MUST do the critical updates on your
computers. Malicious attacks on your network are exploited
through these vulnerabilities. The less vulnerabilities that
you have on your computer, the less likely it will succumb to
an attack.
There are many different ways to do updates on your
computer. You can download and apply them manually. You
can have Windows do them automatically, or you can have
an application designed specifically for updates to push
them to your computers.
Not doing them at all is the most common practice.
Using automatic updates is the next most popular way. The
pros to this are that your updates are done in the
background without any effort from the user. The cons are
that you don't know if it actually happened and you may be
getting updates that do more harm than good.
Downloading them manually is the last option. The pros to
doing this is that you control when and what updates are
done to your machine. The cons to this are that you really
should research the updates before you do them, and most
people miss updates to applications because they may not
even know it needs an update.
Using an application that systematically pushes the correct
updates to your network is the most efficient way of
deploying and maintaining your updates. All of the pros
from manual and automatic deployment with none of the
cons!
Right now your network is riddled with vulnerabilities, even
if you have your computers set to auto update. If your IT
company is doing manual updates for you, they can't be
there enough to make sure that they are being done in a
timely matter.
Moving your company to an automated and controlled
update process will protect your company data and maintain
uptime for your users. The investment in a product that
automates this for you will pay for itself in months. That is
a very good return on your investment.

Outlook Rules!
Did you know that you can set-up
rules in Outlook to filter out
messages? Well you can and it is
very easy to do!
Under the "tools" menu click on
"Rules and Alerts."
A new window will pop up on you
screen allowing your to create and
edit rules that are applied to
Outlook.
To start a new rule click on the
"New Rule..." button.
A list of different rules that will
pop up that you can make for
yourself. There are templates such
as "Move message from someone to
a folder" that help automate the
rule creation. Or you can start from
a blank rule by selecting "Check
messages when they arrive."
Depending on the version of
Outlook that you are running, the
options may be slightly different.
Rules have been around in Outlook
for years and they haven't changed
much.
One of the most useful features in
customizing Outlook for me is
changing the color of emails sent to
me from an individual.
To do this, click on "Tools" then
"Organize." You will see three
options at the top of the screen.
"Using Folders," "Using Colors"
and "Using Views."
Select the "Using Colors" option.
Make sure after "Color messages" it
says "from" then all you need to do
is click on an email in your inbox to
fill in the name field. Then pick
your color and click "Apply Color."
There you go! Now emails from
that person will appear in that color.
This is a great organizing tool for
your inbox.

I love it. Who do you think is winning and
losing the marketing wars today?
—Brad, Merlin.
winning. In 2000 I told my clients
that the marketing winners in the new
Millennium would be firms that create
new ways to access traditional services and
products. For example, the University of
Phoenix didn’t invent college. They just
invented an easier way for people to get
a college education. Here are a few more
marketing winners and losers.
Book Publishing - Products like the
iPad are turning this world upside down,
especially textbooks. Why would anyone
buy and lug around expensive textbooks
when they can grab their iPad (or Kindle,
Sony reader or dozens of other products
in development) and read what they need,
plus have access to the web? They won’t,
so the publishing world is headed into
a tsunami of change. I’m trying to stay
ahead of this curve by having my book
available as a PDF download and it should
be on Kindle/iPad by this summer
(www.PowershiftMarketingBook.com).
Books won’t disappear, especially for
people that grew up in a tactile world. But
your children are now growing up in a
world of screens and digital connections.
Not only do they love texting (their
number one form of communications),
they are perfectly content reading
anything on a screen.
The Phone Book - It will have a place
for a few more years, perhaps. But smart
phones, search engines, and an explosion
in GPS technology are bringing a new
meaning to the famous slogan “Let your
fingers do the walking.” If you are using
yellow page advertising, concentrate
on phone books that are making the
fastest transition to internet and mobile
technology. I just did an analysis for one
of my clients. Email me and I’ll share
some of my findings with you.
VHS and CD - Introduced in 1975,
the VHS (Video Home System) tape
and machine are already history in most
homes. The music CD, introduced in
the 80s, is not far behind. The MP3
player and numerous devices that
access online music (Pandora, Groove
Shark, etc.) are killing CD sales. The
standard movie DVD is next.
The Neighborhood Video Store - The
first video store opened in Los Angeles
in 1977. Now their time is up, too.
Hollywood Video just closed and
Blockbuster won’t be far behind. No,
people haven’t stop watching movies,
they just access them using DVD
kiosks, online downloads, and via
the mail. Oh, don’t count on mail for
long. The US Postal Service is facing a
dramatic shift in their business model,
too.
Bloggers - A blog, a contraction of
“web log,” is a website that allows
you (the blogger) to share daily
information with others (text, photos,
videos). With more than 130 million
blogs, thousands of people are making
a living being bloggers (hard to believe,
but true). To see a typical blog visit
mine, just go to my website
(www.dennettgroup.com). Please
email me if you want to get my
marketing blog regularly.
Social Media - Trying to keep up
in this changing world is almost
impossible. Twitter has more than
106 million users, sharing 55 million
“tweets” a day. But with more than
500 million users, FaceBook is the
elephant in the room. For many
businesses their FaceBook page is now
more important than their web page.
YouTube - Finally, in just five years
YouTube has created a totally new
business: taking and sharing videos.
Creating videos used to be for
professionals. Now anyone with a
smart phone or digital camera are
producers/directors. How popular
is this? Consumers are now viewing
and downloading more than two
billion videos a day! More people watch
YouTube everyday than network TV,
cable and satellite TV combined.

Summer is Heating Up
In More Ways Than One!
T
his summer is going to be a busy one for
those in tourism-related businesses. Between
Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, Medford
will be hosting a multitude of events bringing
thousands of visitors to southern Oregon. These
events are in addition to our normal annual events
such as the Rogue Valley Cup, Medford Cruise,
Jackson County Fair and Red, White & Boom!
In June, for the first time, Medford will be
hosting the US Soccer President’s Cup Tournament
at U.S. Cellular Community Park(USCCP). In
conjunction with the Medford Parks and Recreation
Department, Medford will welcome over 85-90
soccer teams who will converge in southern Oregon
for five days beginning June 16th. Lava Lanes will
also be a busy location due to the USBC Open
Bowling Tournaments that will be held every
weekend in June. Finally, Hold Your Horses!, the
Oregon Quarter Horse Association event comes
to town at the Jackson County Expo bringing 800
visitors for five days.
In July, watch out for the Tandem Bicycle Rally!
Over 350 tandem bicycles, or 700 visitors, hit the
streets in Medford for tours of our area. ASA U18
State Championship Tournament is being held at
USCCP.
Two large events at USCCP are on the schedule
in August: The ASA 10A Girls Tournament and
the Senior Softball Tournament, returning for a
second time. Sprint Car Mini Racers, the Paint-ORama and the National Adult Equestrian Teams
Horse Show finish out the “hot” summer schedule.
These events, plus many others, are the result
of the Medford VCB’s efforts throughout the year
showcasing Medford’s venues and attractions.
Visitors coming to Medford this summer will
bring in an excess of $5 million dollars in economic
impact.
As you can see, our area will be busy with visitors
stimulating our economy by staying, playing and
paying. Let’s make sure we roll out Medford’s
version of Southern Hospitality, Oregon Style!
Looking for a Medford Souvenir? Look No Further.
E
veryone enjoys purchasing special mementos
while traveling, the perfect item that will
bring back memories of a wonderful vacation. Well,
visitors to the Medford Visitor Information Center
(VIC) need to look no further! Just in time for the
summer tourist season, the VIC has restocked its
shelves with many new items.
Items such as the newly-designed “Medford
Oregon” t-shirt to the highly-popular historic
postcards, the VIC offers a nice variety of souvenirs
that are relatively inexpensive, ranging from $1 to $15.
Remember, before your summer guests return
home, stop by the Medford Visitor Information
Center so they can take a little piece of Medford
home with them!

June Forum Preview
Tiffany Pool Waverly Cottage
The Next Generation of Leaders and Givers
The Chamber would like to thank co-sponsors: The Oregon
Community Foundation, Medford Fabrication and Umpqua
Investments for sponsoring the last Forum program of the season.
The June Forum program on “The Next Generation of Leaders and
Givers”will be at the Rogue Valley Country Club which is located at
2660 Hillcrest Road in Medford on Monday, June 14 at 11:30 AM.
Greg Chaille, President of The Oregon Community Foundation
will discuss Community 101. Community 101 is an exciting and
innovative program that provides students service-learning and
leadership opportunities through their schools. In Community 101
classrooms, groups of students are provided up to $5,000 for grant
making in the areas of education, healthy families, and arts and
culture. Students then work together to identify community needs,
research nonprofits, and review grant applications.
Sponsored by The Oregon Community Foundation and the PGE
Foundation, Community 101 is currently in 57 schools throughout
Oregon. Five schools in Jackson County are participating in the
program this year, including: Crater High School, Eagle Point High
School, Phoenix High School, South Medford High School, and
Washington Elementary School. Approximately 170 students are
granting $25,000 to nonprofits in our community!
How long have you been in business?
I have been in business in the Rogue Valley with
my commercial cleaning business (Tiffany’s
Spotless Cleaning) for seven years, but for
Waverly Cottage, while I have owned it for six
years, I am just recently really going all out to
try and rent it out as a B&B/Vacation rental.
Tiffany Pool
Who inspired you to go into business?
I was inspired for this venture for several reasons,
beginning with the original owner and the
architect who built the house. It is so apparent that the original owner
(Joe Shone) and the architect (W.J. Bennett) wanted to build something
that would really stand out and be an asset to Downtown Medford. They
put so much time and effort in creating a one-of-a-kind beauty. I am
also inspired by the prior owner, Dave Fisse, who also put years of effort
in his research of the history of the house and in his efforts to save the
house back in the late 70’s and it is his time and work that is allowing us
to restore many of the missing trim features for the house. I am inspired
by my husband, who took the house from the ground up and restored
every part and piece and still continues to work on the missing trim
features for our last phase in the restoration, which is the restoration of
all the missing trim on the porch. Lastly, I am inspired by many people,
old to young who stop and ask questions and are very interested to
know about the house. I am really excited to share it with visitors; I think
we have been able to give people a chance to enjoy a piece of Medford
history, a real step back in time.
Any family information you wish to share?
I am really blessed to have a very loving and supportive family. I have to
give the biggest credit to my husband and best friend because he is the
one who has done all the great work which has allowed me to go into my
B&B venture.
Hobbies and interests outside of work?
My hobbies and interests are restoring old houses, working in my rose
gardens, reading, biking and traveling.
What are the two largest difficulties to doing business in Jackson
County?
I really have not had many difficulties in doing business in Jackson County.
I think really the main difficulty right now for me is the economy and the fact
that people are more cautious about how they spend their money these
days.
What are the two greatest advantages of doing business in Jackson
County?
The advantages as I see it to doing business in Jackson County are the
many recreational and community activities that are available for people
to do when visiting our area. With the theatre, arts, dining, wineries, and
outdoor recreation available, it really gives me a lot of good reasons to
encourage people to visit our sweet little cottage.

T
he 2009-2010 Leadership Medford/Jackson County class received their
diplomas on May 18 at EarthTeach Forest Park. Leadership Medford/
Jackson County is a Chamber program designed to educate and motivate
leaders who are committed to shaping the future of our community while
encouraging an active involvement that contributes to the betterment of the
Rogue Valley.
Twenty-six current and emerging leaders from throughout the Jackson
County area were selected to participate in the 2009-2010 program, which
began in September 2009 and concluded on May 18 at a challenge ropes course
with group-work activities.
Participants came together on the third Tuesday of each month for a daylong session to learn more about team building, social environment, business
& industry, health care, media, tourism, fire science, S.W.A.T. team and
lifelong learning. The graduating class is a diverse mix of professionals with
representatives from a cross section of our local business community.
In addition to attending eight all-day educational sessions, members of
the class were also challenged to complete a service learning project in the
community. The 2009-2010 Leadership Medford/Jackson County class
embarked on an exciting project enhancing and revitalizing the playground
at the Family Nurturing Center. Their class project came to completion at an
unveiling on May 6.
Experiences like the Leadership program provide some of the greatest
lessons in life. Congratulations graduates!

& Expo Park Announces New
Director
Jackson County Fair Board President Bob
Smith announced today that the Board has chosen
Dave Koellermeier as the new Jackson County
Fairgrounds & Expo Park Director. Koellermeier

Borovansky who left April 1 for a similar position
with the Stanislaus County Fair in California.
During the last four years Koellermeier has
served as the Oregon State Fair Operations
Manager and the State Fair’s Manager of Strategic
Planning before returning to the consulting
business. Prior to his assignments with the state fair,
his employment career has included positions in the
agriculture industry with Ralston Purina and his
own consulting company. He was also CEO for ten
years with Micro Power Electronics in the Portland
area.
Koellermeier holds a bachelor’s degree in Ag
Economics from Oregon State University and a
M.B.A. degree from Washington University in St.
Louis.
“Dave has an understanding of both the
marketing and financial components of what
makes both a fair and interim events successful.
He understands the fiscal solvency required to
allow long term success for the many community
stakeholders at Jackson County Expo. He
understands the agricultural underpinnings of a
county fair, but also has the vision to nurture both
the commercial and entertainment aspects of a
fairgrounds that increasingly relies upon a more
urban clientele,” said Smith.
Koellermeier, who is from Wilsonville, said,
“The Jackson County Fair, and particularly its
youth livestock auction, has an excellent reputation
in the state. I look forward to working with existing
fairground’s partners, working to expand those
relationships, and growing the utilization of the
Expo’s venues.”

The Chamber of Medford/Jackson County can
purchase a membership to Wildlife Images for 15%
off.
Being a part of the Wildlife Images membership
program is a fun and important way for you to help
your native wildlife today and for generations to
come. Wildlife Images has cared for, on average,
over 1,000 animals per year for 30 years. Over this
time, the animals that we have successfully released
back into the wild have gone on to raise countless
generations of families themselves. We do this
crucial service at no charge to the public.
Additionally, our Education department visits
over 100 schools, churches, assisted living centers,
and retirement homes each year and over 100
schools come to Wildlife Images for school field
trips. We annually host over 14,000 children every
year! Wildlife Images receives no funding from the
state or federal government; we rely solely on the
generosity of individuals and organizations to carry
out our dual mission of Wildlife Rehabilitation
and Education. Your membership helps ensure that
these birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians
remain in their crucial place in your natural
world and that generations of school children will
continue to become better stewards of our planet.

so impressive was to see so many chamber members from different chambers
establish relationships with one another, relationships that wouldn’t be
established in any other setting. Relationships are often what keep the doors
open for a business, especially during difficult times like now, and it was our
pleasure to help in this battle for so many people in our community.”
Dave McLaughlin of South Valley Bank & Trust says he is grateful to be
part of such a successful event. “At South Valley, we feel very lucky to be a
part of and to be represented by The Chamber of Medford/Jackson County.
The benefits South Valley Bank receives as a member of The Chamber at
events such as the All-Chamber Sundowner are so valuable to our success as
an organization. Likewise, as an employee of South Valley Bank, I feel very
lucky to work with such great co-workers who are committed to the bank
and their community. It is really fun to see the energy in our people when
they get behind a great event like the Sundowner event. Thank you very
much for the opportunity for South Valley Bank & Trust to participate in
this event.”
Sarah Pearson, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for The Chamber,
says that so many attendees were so impressed by this premier networking
opportunity that we’re already working on sponsors and a venue for another
Sundowner next year. “Our hope is to bring even more chambers into the
mix, making this the largest networking event within the region for years to
come.”
The Chamber would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to South
Valley Bank & Trust, all participating chambers, their members, the
Rogue Valley Country Club and to the amazing food, wine, beer and
entertainment presenters for your commitment to making this event so
successful and for supporting us in our mission of helping business succeed.
It was our vision to join forces, create new opportunities, inform, entertain,
and provide a networking forum for chamber members regionally in a
pleasant, comfortable environment.
