achievement of the athletes, coaches,
officials and volunteers in being chosen
to represent our province at the 2007

Through your talent, drive and dedication to your sport, you have earned the
opportunity to test your skills against the
finest young athletes from across Canada. It is a rare privilege to be involved in a Canada Games, and I believe your
participation will be an enriching experience for you, creating
memories you will cherish for years to come.
Athletes rarely achieve their goals without the help and

and fellow athletes along the way. Those supporters will be
joined by all Manitobans in celebrating your efforts as you
rise to the challenge in Whitehorse.

MESSAGE FROM SPORT MANITOBA
Congratulations on being selected to represent our province as a member of Team
Manitoba for the 2007 Canada Winter
Games.
Sport Manitoba is proud to be responsible
for the overall organization of Team Manitoba and assisting your efforts in achieving your sport development goals on the
national stage. The Canada Games have
a tremendous positive impact on sport and
personal development and as such are a
high priority for us.
We can all be inspired by some of our province’s finest athletes who
have been members of Team Manitoba – Cindy Klassen, Shannon
Rempel, Susan Auch, Cam Barker, Kerry Burtnyk and your Honourary
Captain Jennifer Botterill. May these Games be your stepping stone to
the same kind of success they have enjoyed.
The Canada Games are a unique sport development opportunity. They
foster teamwork, spirit, an opportunity to achieve individual and team
goals and to develop new relationships. As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Canada Games and the first hosting of the Games in the Territories, it will be a memorable experience for all involved.
Enjoy the moment. Go all out in your competition. Help make Manitoba

CHEF DE MISSION
Congratulations and welcome to Team Manitoba’s
2007 Canada Winter Games Team.
As Chef de Mission, I am honoured to be working with such an exceptional group of athletes,
coaches, team leaders, and volunteers. The time
and effort you have dedicated to prepare for the
Games is tremendous and your selection is a
reflection of your commitment to Team Manitoba.
I would like to thank the Province of Manitoba and
Sport Manitoba for their support of Team Toba.
As well, I would like to acknowledge our corporate sponsors, Red River College and Mondetta.
We are proud to have both their support as we strive for excellence in
Whitehorse.
Your mission staff is working diligently behind the scenes to make sure
your Games experience is positive. We have assembled a group of
experienced and positive volunteers who are available to help you with
whatever you need.
For some of you, participating at the Canada Games is a once in lifetime event. Take advantage of the opportunities and experiences that
Canada’s multi-sport event presents. You have done the work and the
preparations are complete so now is the time to strive for outstanding
performances and to build friendships between teammates, competitors,
officials, and volunteers from across Canada.
Best wishes to Team Manitoba.

MESSAGE FROM HONOURARY TEAM CAPTAIN
JENNIFER BOTTERILL
Dear Team Manitoba,
Congratulations to all of you! This is a very exciting time
and you can enjoy the journey leading up to the Canada
Games this February. This will be a special experience
for you and one that you should definitely make the
most of. The Canada Games that I attended was an
amazing event! I look back and strongly value my time
with Team Manitoba at the Games. I know that it was
an important step in my athletic career and my development as a person. It certainly helped me reach the
next level to train with the National team and eventually
make it to the Olympics.
One theme that I remember clearly from my team that attended the Canada
Games was the idea of “no regrets”. Our coach would say that it was good to
strive to do everything possible to achieve your dreams. We did not want to
look back and wish that we had done something more to reach our goals and to
pursue our potential. To this day, I still love the idea of making the most of each
day and of having no regrets. I also encourage you to pursue excellence in all
areas of your life.
There are so many lessons that I have learned through sport, and I think one
other important message is to be grateful. I have always felt fortunate to have
the opportunities and experiences that I have had. One little saying of mine is
that I would often have “moments of appreciation” where I could have a minute
to take it all in. Another very key lesson that is connected to this idea, is to also
appreciate the people around you. Along with being the best that you can be, it
is also nice to bring out the best in everyone you are surrounded by. A positive
attitude and good energy can be so contagious for your team.
I hope that you can all have many “moments of appreciation” as you prepare
for the Canada Games, and during your time there! One of my favourite quotes
is that “Success is a journey, not a destination”. ENJOY this journey, make the
most of each day, and believe in your dreams. I wish you the very, very best.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Botterill

top player in NCAA women’s hockey, in consecutive years. She competed at the 1995
Canada Winter Games in Grande Prairie, Alberta and helped Team Manitoba win a
silver medal in ringette.

HONOURARY MEN’S HOCKEY TEAM CAPTAIN
TODD DAVISON
Todd Davison was named as the Honourary Team
Captain for the 2007 Canada Winter Games men’s
hockey team on November 22, 2006. Todd passed
away ten days later on December 2, after a two
and a half year battle with cancer. He was an
exceptional hockey player with strong leadership
skills and was never afraid to mix it up with the
larger opponents he faced.
From very early it was evident that Todd had talent
with his agility and quickness. He played AAA
Midget hockey in Manitoba and was drafted to the
Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League. His
skill, focus and hard work earned him a spot on the
team at the age of 16. In 2003, he served as the assistant captain for the Team
Manitoba men’s hockey team at the Canada Winter Games in Bathurst/Campbellton, New Brunswick.
Todd was always a fan favorite. He was not the biggest guy on the ice but his
passion for the game, his hockey smarts, his skill and his feistiness had everyone
cheering him on. Comments from his billets, fans and coaches described Todd
as a very polite and respectful young man, who they would be proud to call their
own.
In 2004, Todd was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma for which he received chemotherapy and radiation treatments for many months. Despite this, Todd still
managed to live a full and active life. Up until the day he died he coached the
AAA Midget Winnipeg Thrashers, worked at Focus Fitness in Winnipeg training
young hockey players, studied at the University of Manitoba, and played recreational hockey.
Todd also created the Believe in the Goal organization, which put on the Sizzlin’ Summer Showdown last August. He brought in players from the NHL, AHL,
and Canadian National Jr. Team for a charity hockey game, which raised over
$50,000 for CancerCare Manitoba.
Todd was self-motivated and lived every moment to the fullest. His infectious
personality made everyone around him feel good. Todd personified what it meant
to be a high performance athlete. He may have been small in stature but he
made up for it with everything else did on the ice. And as good as he was on the
ice, he was even better off it.
