HERE AT SAXMUNDHAM FREE SCHOOL, WE BELIEVE IN
‘PROVIDING A FOUNDATION FOR LIFE’. OUR AIM IS TO PROVIDE
AN ALL-ROUND EDUCATION WHICH INSPIRES OUR STUDENTS
TO DEVELOP A LOVE OF LEARNING FOR LIFE. WE BELIEVE THAT
AS WELL AS LEARNING THROUGH A BROAD AND BALANCED,
TRADITIONAL CURRICULUM, OUR STUDENTS SHOULD BE EXPOSED
TO ALL KINDS OF LEARNING AND EXPERIENCES THROUGH OUR
EXCITING ENRICHMENT CURRICULUM.
Our enrichment curriculum takes place as part of our school week (on
Wednesday afternoons) and at the end of each term. At the end of the
Michaelmas and Lent Terms, ‘Enrichment Days’ engage our students in
activities that are fun, memorable and exciting ends to an intense period of
learning. The Lent Term Enrichment Day is particularly geared also to
enterprise and team learning. At the end of the Trinity Term, our Summer
Enrichment Week takes place. This full week provides the opportunity for
long term engagement for our students in something that is of interest to
them or to immerse themselves in something new!

This brochure outlines the Summer Enrichment Week
choices for students for 2015. In the first section, we have
trips which have places for students in all schools in the
Trust to which Saxmundham Free School belongs (Beccles
and Ixworth Free School students can opt to do these too).
This provides students not only with the experiences
involved in travelling abroad, but also with the opportunity
to meet students and make new friends from our other
schools. The second section outlines the activities open
only to students at Saxmundham Free School.
Each student should make three choices in order of
preference on the activity from attached to the back of
this booklet (1 = first choice, 2 = second choice, 3 = third
choice). They can be from any section. If you have already
opted for a trip from the first section, then please put this
into your preferences as your first choice. Then return the
completed activity choice form to school by the date
specified.
It should be noted by parents / carers that all prices quoted
in each section are already subsidised and therefore any

Award
Achieving your Award is an adventure from beginning to end
and this section can give you some of your most memorable
experiences!
There’ll need to be between four and seven of you in an
expedition team (eight if you’ve chosen to travel by tandem
canoe or bike). With your team, you’ll plan an aim for your
expedition, decide on your location and do lots of fun
training to make sure you’re fully prepared and know what
you’re doing! Your Leader will arrange a Supervisor to work
with your team to organise all of this and help you plan
your expedition.
The whole experience will give you laughs, arguments, joy and
frustration along the way. But, by the end, you’ll have better
team and leadership skills, not to mention bags more
confidence and a rucksack full of great memories!
“…we depended solely on everyone working as one. We had very
low points, but when we had highs, they were exceptionally high…
I still keep in touch with my team… this has to be one of the best
things I have done…”
