TRADITION
Tradition is long human memory set, not in stone, but in
human interaction. Without this active memory, the bonds of
relationship and affection fray and fall apart. Communities
dissolve as surely as neglected buildings do. After participating in events, celebrations, and even small rituals, we remark
about how good it is to gather and remember.
Today’s readings remind us of foundations laid deeper
than the human will to relate. Today we hear about God’s
will to relate to us—to be our God as we are called to be
God’s own beloved people.
Today in three readings and three ways we remember
the covenant bonds that create us as a people and the
obligation and responsibility that express the innermost attitude of soul. You are mine. I am yours. These are God’s
words that created a people as surely as “Let there be light”
created the sun and moon and all the stars.
KEEPING OUR CHILDREN SAFE
The Church of St. Genevieve is working to keep our
children safe. Under the guidance of the Office for the
Protection of Children and Youth, anyone who has received
VIRTUS training before July 1, 2008 will need to renew their
VIRTUS training in order to volunteer with our youth and
vulnerable adults. Next year, those who completed their
training between July 1, 2008-June 30, 2014 will need to
renew.
The renewal process is simple and is completed online. Instructions are available at www.stgens.org. Click on the Faith
Formation tab, then Safe Environment, then the Virtus Renew
link to get the instruction pdf. If you need any assistance,
please contact Susie Irlbeck at [email protected] or
651-429-7937.
PARENT’S PRAYER WHEN CHILDREN
ARE LEAVING HOME
Gracious God, you blessed me with the gift of this child
and entrusted me with his/her care.
Now he/she leaves this home and begins a new life apart from
me. Surround him/her with good people, and watch over him/
her each day. Let him/her know that I will always be near
whenever he/she may need me. Heal any hurts we may harbor
with one another, and forgive our failings as we learn to be in a
new kind of relationship with each other. And when the sight
of his/her empty room pierces my heart with sadness, may I
find comfort in knowing that my child is your child too, filled
with your grace and sheltered by your love. Amen.

The Church, that it may shine the love and light of
Jesus and show its faith through actions that help
hungry

Our nation’s leaders, that they would support policies that will
help end hunger.

A Stewardship Reflection—
“…keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus who
himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to
receive.’” Acts 20:35
You know that warm feeling you get when someone opens a
special gift from you? You can get that same feeling when
you give the gift of yourself to others. In thoughtful prayer,
in participation in a church ministry or other volunteer opportunity, or by giving financially, you can be a true steward
of the gifts you have received from God. You are sharing
your faith in the best ways. Please consider how you can use
your gifts from God. You will be blessed and you will get to
experience that warm feeling over and over again!
