Stitches for Community Care
ianne Purcell started sewing in high school

and has been counting every stitch since. With
six sewing machines, Purcell makes dolls, dish
towels, crocheted snowflakes and blankets. She
has gifted multiple items to JRMC Foundation
and Gift Shoppe to help raise funds for the
community care fund supporting JRMC
Community Care.

“I do what I can”
Purcell has experienced multiple medical
events in the last few years, some major. “I have
had to use Community Care two or three times
to help pay for expenses,” says Purcell.
The Community Care or Partial Community
Care program provides full or partial discounts
on outstanding patient balances for services
deemed medically necessary.
JRMC provides more than
$430,000 annually in medical
care for uninsured and
underinsured patients.
“They sure have been good to me in the ER,
so I do what I can to give back,” says Purcell.

Volunteering Some Cheer
One evening on the JRMC Patient Care Unit, a crying pediatric patient needed some cheer. After hearing this
young patient crying, an anonymous visitor decided to try and comfort this patient. A man resembling Santa
Claus asked the family and floor nurses if he could help cheer him up.
There were three nurses, Courtney, Danielle and Lisa, caring for the patient and it was time for his nebulizer
treatment. The visitor, Santa Claus, offered his help to distract the patient from the treatment being provided.
With this distraction, the nurses were able to provide him with the necessary care all in good spirits.
Santa Claus also brought the patient a present when he came up later that evening. It was a very
touching experience for those involved. A big thank you to the sweet man who was our secret Santa Claus.

Unison Bank employees raise funds through their Friday jeans day for community
nonprofits. JRMC Foundation has been fortunate to receive their support since
2007. This year they gifted $100 for JRMC Hospice. Thank you to Unison Bank
employees!
JIM HARTY, JR.
JRMC Foundation received a gift from Jim Harty, Jr. in memory of Joann Merkel,
mother of Cheryl Wolf. He made the gift because of “the care and attitude of
the people” at JRMC. He went on to say that everyone - doctors, nurses and staff
were awfully good to Joann. Both Joann and Jim’s dad, Jim, Sr. were seen in ED
and PCU. Jim Harty Sr. was also treated by rehabilitation. Thank you to each of
these departments who inspired gratitude.
