How to Calculate your distance from Lightning
Question:
When the Interval between seeing lightning and hearing
thunder is 12 seconds how far away is the lightning?
Answer:
To estimate your distance from a thunder storm count the
number of seconds between a flash of lightning and the
next clap of thunder. Divide your answer by 5 (for km’s
divide by 3).
12/5 = about 2.5 miles away
12/3 = about 4 Kilometres away
