Pastor’s Corner
“Bear much fruit and…Be my Disciple!
Be my Disciple and…Bear much fruit!”
“There is need of only one thing.” That is Jesus’ response to Martha
after she chides Him for His lack of concern regarding all she is doing,
and then demands that He tell Mary to help her!
Martha is “anxious and worried about many things.” Surely she is
not happy with so many concerns! But it is obvious that she is of the
mindset that the only way to relieve the stress is to work harder and
do more.
Thinking this way, it is understandable that she would be upset at
Mary for not sharing the work load and disappointed in Jesus for
allowing Mary to waste time doing nothing!
We are like Martha most of the time. We believe that the most
important thing we can do is to keep going & doing. We over-plan,
overextend, overspend, and over-indulge, thinking that eventually
we will get a better ‘grasp’ on our life and finally be happy. And we
think less of people who are not ‘involved’, ‘keeping up’ or
‘connected’.
What is the ONE thing that Jesus was referring to in His reply to
Martha’s complaint? I think the Lord was telling Martha that ‘being’
(being in the present moment) is what is needed first; before ‘doing’.
So often we get caught up in what we are doing, we forget why we
are doing it. Work, school, exercise, cooking, cleaning, repairing,
reading, watching, listening, driving, shopping, talking; the list goes
on and on. What is the purpose of it all?
If the reason for doing all these things is to get ahead or feel better
or to improve our life, then we might be wasting our time. Not that
these motives are bad. But devoid of the goal of living they are
empty. And what is our goal? To BE with God forever!
Jesus was telling Martha that spending time with Him was the only
thing needed. Being with the Lord would then give direction and
purpose and fulfillment in doing all the things that our human life
requires.
Do we spend time with the Lord? Some of us can’t even spend an
hour (or so) in Church on Sunday for Mass.
Last week I was appalled at the number of people leaving
immediately after receiving the true presence of Jesus Christ in the
Blessed Sacrament. I guess they had more important things to ‘do’
then remain for a few minutes to be with the Lord and their sisters
and brothers!
We also have the unique opportunity in our parish to spend time
with God on Wednesdays, during Adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament. Yet few people take advantage of this time of ‘being
present’ with Jesus. What are you doing each Wednesday that is
more important than spending some time with Him?

LOCOS Y VISIONARIOS
patrón arbitrario; a los ministros y teólogos como unos inútiles;
semana)
SEMI-ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE
The Villa Marie Knights of Columbus Council #6342
will be hosting, in association with the American
Red Cross, a blood drive, Monday, July 25, 2016
from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Assumption Regional School
Gym, at 146 S. Pitney Rd. Galloway 08205.
Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood
can only come from a volunteer donor, a person like you who
makes the choice to donate. There is no substitute for your
donation. When you make a blood donation, you join a very
select group. Currently only 3 out of every 100 people in America
donate blood. If you desire to make an appointment or for
more information please call: Joe Nock (609) 404-0503.
Wedding of the Sea
We are excited to announce that we are expanding its one
day” Wedding of the Sea” into a three day community event.
The festivities will start at 12 noon with a mass being celebrated
by Bishop Dennis Sullivan. After mass, there will be a procession
with the statue of the Blessed Mother to the surf where Bishop
Sullivan will toss the ceremonial wreath into the ocean.
THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DEPAUL is in dire need of cereal,
peanut butter and jelly, soup, pasta sauce, tuna fish, macaroni
and cheese & can macaroni. Right now we have an over
abundance of pasta so we do not need that at this time. We
thank you in advance for your generous donation.
We are asking your help to spread the news of the special event
by putting this information in your church bulletin. We thought
you'd be interested in letting people know, especially those who
have attended before or be a first time visitor. You have many
parishioners who may like to join us for this fun event. Your help
would be greatly appreciated.

OLPH Parish is developing a brand new website
that will better serve mobile users and bring a
fresh image to our parish. One thing that can
help do that is photographs from events over the years. Do you
have photos that you’d like us to consider for the site? If so,
please email them to [email protected] (address used
ONLY for this photo campaign) and we’ll try to fit them in the
most appropriate places on the site. We have some photos, but
since the website is to serve the parish, what better way to get
you involved than helping out here? Thanks in advance for
anything you can offer!
