President’s
Report
Congratulations to the members that competed
in the TTT Show at Geelong. It was great to have
2 teams representing our club, they didn’t come
home with the ellusive trophy but I am sure they all
had a great time. Thank you to Sam and Deneale for being the team helpers.
(Every team that enters any of the TTT events must supply one person to help
the club running the event, with two required for TTT Horse Trials. So if you
can ever help at any of these events it will be greatly appreciated.)

Top 10
Awards
Thanks to the members who attended this rally with
Adam Wooten. We had 12 riders doing a mixture of
flat with poles and showjumping exercises.
Booking form is attached for the February mid week
rally with Brya and Erin instructing.
The Top Ten awards aim to recognize those people who are
outstanding club members - not necessarily the people who
win the most, but people who support club activities, attend
working bees and represent the club at outside events/activities (club uniform must be worn).
Points are not awarded for events/activities which clash with a club activity,
except for Top Team Trophy events. Onus is on the member to keep a record of
attendance/representation at events/wins on the attached form and provide a
copy of their record to the Award Coordinator upon request.
Points for attendance will be determined by the Award Coordinator. Members
attending rallies unmounted are eligible for points if they provide assistance on
the day. Names of unmounted members are to be recorded on the rally sheet.
Representation points are earned regardless of the member’s performances on
the day of the event. Additional points (up to a maximum of 8 at any one event/
show) will be awarded for performances shown in the table below.
Where a member competes on more than one horse – performance points
will be tallied for each horse and added to the attendance and representation
points earned by the rider to give the total points for each combination.

Weekend
Trail Ride
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST INVITED
A few members would like to organise a weekend trail ride at Strath Creek in a self contained accommodation property called “Halls on Falls”.
We would envisage arriving on a Friday, late morning and returning on the
Sunday afternoon. We are not sure of dates at this stage as there is so much
happening before Easter, therefore we think it will be around late April or mid
May at this stage?
We would like to know how many people would be interested in coming so
that we can organise accommodation etc.
Please email your interest to Diana Earp – [email protected] or if you
have any questions regarding this activity.
Thanks, Diana

January Rally
Report by Bec
What a fantastic rally we had in January! 23 riders booked in to have lessons with a new instructor,
Wendy Christensen. Considering we had a few members riding/helping at TTT show and some still
on holidays, it was a great turnout for January.
This was the first time teaching at our club for Wendy and the feedback from members has been great. She had each group working on different techniques and each horse/rider combination seemed to be working well by the end of the sessions. I definitely had
some good tips to take home and practice on.
With so many members booking in to ride at this rally, Sally stepped in and took a session and had all her riders going around nicely.
It was great to see Adele and her new young horse out at their first big outing and even cantering around in a group! Simone and her
new boy Rocky did great at their first rally, both horse and rider letting out a cheer after finishing a great canter!
A couple of new members were also out at their first rally, Martina and Meegan. Both looked like they had a great dressage session
and then had fun over the X country jumps. From what I saw of the jumpers, we might have a few potential TTT Horse trial entries!
TTT Show
Report by Sally
Whittlesea fielded two teams at the recent TTT Show – the ‘Show Some Style’ team was Simone,
Brooke, Gayanne and Kim. The ‘Show Stoppers’ team included Hayley, Sarah, Melinda and Rebecca.
Over 350 competitors converged on the Geelong showgrounds, which can only be described as
cosy. The oval is certainly big enough for the rings but warm up areas are limited and parking and
camping is very squishy. Such close confines created a party atmosphere and a good time was
being had by all. By Friday evening the showgrounds were packed to the rafters and there was the
smell of BBQs, the tinkle of champagne glasses and the sound of laughter around the grounds.
Over two days of competition, the standard was high with quite a few VERY successful open showies including Garryowen competitors and Royal Champions in the mix. One sour note was the lack of sportsmanship displayed by some of the ‘open’ competitors who
were less than impressed with their results. HRCAV Showing is NOT EA showing. Our philosophy is that everyone has equal opportunity to succeed if they are prepared to put in the work. We have developed our own criteria which allows riders of all types of horses,
with a variety of gear and uniform choices, to compete on equal footing. There is an emphasis on the overall picture and the horse is
expected to work correctly and happily. If you choose to keep your horse’s feathers and ear hairs rather than shave them to within an
inch of their lives – that is your choice. If you wear a Wintec saddle – you won’t be penalised. If your chunky Percheron x outworks the
tense Royal show winner – you stand a chance of winning. I could go on and on....
Anyway – congrats to all our riders. You did the club proud and managed to bring home some well earned ribbons. Broad sash winners were Kim and Paris who won Champion Smartest on Parade in their level 4 ring (and won a rug) while over in the strong Level 1
ring, Brodie and Brooke were awarded Reserve Champion Led exhibit. Thank you also to Sam Mizzi and Denealle Bennett for volunteering to be the team helpers. If helpers are not provided, the team is eliminated. Your role is vital to the success of these popular
events.
The winning team consisted of members of the Goulburn Valley Equestrian Club. I think this could be the first time this club has won
a TTT event which is an exciting achievement. Bulla was hot on their heels and were runners up. They also had two other teams which
finished in the top ten.
Thanks to Sarah for providing an entertaining report from a competitor’s point of view.

TTT Show
by Sarah
Top Teams Trophy was hosted by Gisborne and District Adult riding club and held at the
Geelong Show grounds on the 19th & 20th January.
It was a great effort that Whittlesea had two teams this year. Team One; Gayanne Haber, Brooke Haber, Kim Wilson, and Simone Evans and Team Two; Sarah Powell, Melinda Roberts,
Hayley Baker and Rebecca Vasconcelo.
Stella and I have only done 1 show in the last 2 years, but I was keen to enter and give it a go as I really wanted to have a
night away - the opportunity to get a full nights sleep away from my 18 month old little girl was too tempting. I imagined sitting around on the Saturday night, drink in hand, chatting nothing but horses while my husband settled and
resettled our little one who hates to miss out on life and has very little time for sleep.
Of course I forgot to calculate the time in preparation required with showing, and especially, as I said, 1 show in 2 years,
I take FOREVER!!! SO.....Melinda and I arrived a little shaken on Saturday afternoon. On the way a crazy lady driving a few
cars in front of us decided to suddenly stop her car on the freeway so that she could rummage through some boxes that
had been dumped on the side of the road!!! Cars went everywhere and I had to screech to a stop and then pull over to
check Stella was OK. Melinda was driving behind me and I glanced in my rear view mirror for a moment to see her car
and float swerving all over the road!!
Anyway we eventually arrived safely. Geelong show grounds has great facilities. Then began the start of a frenzied time.
Unloading horses, straw, hay, buckets, buckets and more buckets, saddles and just SO MUCH STUFF! We rode the horses
to settle them in. Stella was a bit wild, but Tango was being very good. Then we got the horses plaited, got dinner, set up
our bed, cleaned some gear and what do you know? It’s 1am and no time for sitting around, we have to get to sleep and
then be up again in a few hours!! How fun!
So, 4.5 hours later we’re up faffing about making our horse look fabulous. And they did actually. Heaps of people even
told us so! I think when Stella and Tango were walking together they kind of stood out with all those white socks. I
hadn’t even brushed my teeth, but Stella looked so good. Especially as I had clipped off all of her whiskers. My plaits
were pretty good for me too! Rebecca and her horse also looked fantastic.
When the rings started up is was absolute mayhem! The loud speaker was VERY loud and the rings were pretty packed.
There were A LOT of very upset horses that morning. I was very pleased that Stella was pretty relaxed and much less wild
than the day before. Tango was finding all the atmosphere a little unsettling, but he was very good considering. I didn’t
see much of Rebecca on the day as it was so busy, but I heard her horse did well in the difficult circumstances too.
I actually had to pop out the side of the ring in SOP as it was getting a bit dangerous and Stella was becoming a bit
unsettled. All that faffing about and clipped whiskers for nothing!! But she settled into the other classes really well and I
was very pleased with her by the end of the day. We managed a green ribbon in Mount Most Suitable. I was very happy
with that considering the field.
We did actually have fun along the way. We met a lovely girl from Canada in one of the stables near us. She was finding
the differences here in Oz a bit challenging and seemed to be having some trouble with the girls from her club. They
had promised to help her, but then said they couldn’t and it didn’t matter as she wasn’t in the winning team anyway!!
Poor girl spent 5 hours traveling each way too! She said we were lucky that
everyone from our club seemed so friendly and that we all got along so well.
Melinda braided her horses tail for her and she was so grateful she cried!! We
were thrilled for her that she came 3rd in her SOP.
We were very lucky to have the support of the Haber girls and Kim that Sunday
morning. We didn’t win, but I had great time and I’m really looking forward to
doing my next show. And I think I’ll only need to allow about 14 hours in
preparation next time, now that I am becoming such and expert and everything.
By the way my darling daughter had slept really well that night, and my husband
got a great night sleep. Typical.
Stella looking super excited about her green ribbon….
