Commerce Wellington Holiday Parade. This was the 32nd year of the
celebration and the first year Wellington Regional Medical Center won the
first place honor. The theme for the 2015 Wellington Holiday Parade was
“Winter Wonderland” and all entries were mandated to relate to that
theme. Our float design was an enchanted forest. Our entire enchanted
forest entry however, was a mixture of fantasy and theater complete with
an ice castle as well as our amazingly talented and amazingly funny bedpan
drill team.
Out of 7
adult entries, we won first place! Thank you to all who
participated, volunteered and helped us take the number one spot. We’re
delighted about bringing home the win and look forward to defending our
title in the parade next year. See more pictures from the parade on page 5.

Message from the CEO
Happy Heart Month!
So, how are you doing with those New Year’s resolutions? If you are like 80 percent of those who
make a New Year’s resolutions, they have already
failed according to US News and World Report. I,
however, believe that our staff consistently beats
the odds. It’s no secret that 2015 was a challenging
year and we have several forces working against
us but we beat the odds and that was due to your
determination.
As you can tell from our census, our busy season
is here! The excellent care you provide is propelling our reputation in the community and people
want to be a part of what we are doing at Wellington Regional. I hear it everywhere I go. You are
making a huge difference in the lives of our patients and their families.
So, let’s make some resolutions together and help
each other stay-the-course!
Let’s resolve to continue to put our patients’
best interest at the center of everything we
do.
Remember it is each of our jobs to be an advocate
for our patients. And in the spirit of our Lifewings
patient safety initiative, you are expected to speak
on their behalf. No matter what your role is here
at the hospital, if you see something or hear
something that doesn’t seem quite right, it is our
responsibility to ask the questions or to find
someone that can help you make sure our patients get the very best care possible. You were
chosen to work here because we think you are a
compassionate and caring individual with amazing potential to do great things for our patients
and each other. Don’t let fear prevent you from
making sure we are all doing the very best we can
for everyone at Wellington Regional Medical
Center.
Let’s resolve to support each other and life
each other up in a positive manner.
I realize that when things get stressful it be
comes very easy to slip into a negative mindset
that allows us to only see the down side of
things. That is human nature but what I am
asking is that when we see a co-worker having
a rough day or needing a little extra help, that
we jump in with a kind word or compliment
about the good work they are doing and encouraging them to keep going or be that extra
helping hand when they need it. We shouldn’t
have the “it’s not my job” mindset but instead
look for little ways to make each other’s job a
little less stressful.
I believe that it is going to be our best year yet and
that together we are going to lift Wellington Regional Medical Center and each other to new
highest! We will be World Class! Here is to a happy and healthy 2016!

CASE MANAGEMENT
How would you describe the effectiveness in
which the Case management Team is run?
The case management team is one of the best
teams in the hospital with regards to managing.
The team consists of very experienced nurses
and social worker with tremendous skills and
work together like a family. Many times if a
case manager has to go home sick or a difficult
situation at home and must leave there is never
a complaint from any member of the team.
The team focus is to do what they can to help
cover. Case management is the true definition
of the word team.

questions about Wellington Regional Medical Center’s Case Management team.
Tell us a little about the Case Management Team.
Case management is comprised of nurses, social workers, and physician advisors. The case management
team not only assists with complex discharge needs
but also works with providers to insure the patient’s
hospital stay is covered. Case Management is one of
the few departments in the hospital that works with all
departments such as admitting, nursing, physicians,
laboratory, radiology, HIM, ER, OR, Risk Management
just to name a few. The case manager and social workers also must maintain knowledge of all state and federal laws to practice. It takes a very well organized
person to work as a case manager. There are so many
moving parts to each patients case with regards to
patient, family, physician, physician consultants,
testing, providers, discharge planning and of course
our favorite topic length of stay.
What one word would you use to describe the
Case Management team? Why?
Family: The case managers truly care about
each other and work very well together just
like a family. Listening to the team talk at lunch
or even the holiday parties it is like listening to
sisters talk.
Is there anything new happening within your
team you’d like the rest of WRMC’s staff to
know?
We have a new ER case manager to that will be
starting in the ER this month. Her name is Joy
Lakeram she is a registered nurse and we are
very glad and excited she is part of our team.

Professional Development
As we continue to instill our culture of safety at Wellington Regional Medical Center though LifeWings, we
are responsible for better communication and keeping you informed of our progress. Some physician
groups have been participating in the training course with the surgical services staff. It is important that
we train and work together as a team in the surgical services area. The results of these courses are
outlined below.
A LifeWings Surgical Steering Committee is being
formed in the department to drive the process.
As a result of the implementation of the
LifeWings safety tools, you will see and hear:

A safety statement in each meeting

Assertive statements “I expect you to speak
up,” “I am concerned …”

Debriefing at the end of all meetings and significant events

Increased questions
The Inpatient Surgical Units along with Medical
Education, Physical Therapy, Case Management,
Hospitalist Groups and the Physical Therapy
Department will be trained next.
