Greetings from the General Manager
e are in full swing now with perfect weather everyday, a full array of
social club events, and a golf course that is in perfect condition and
ready for a full summer of play. There are many new and exciting events
taking place, so I will do my best to summarize in this newsletter.
Our special Wednesday family-style members’ dinner debuted in May with the return of
an old favorite, “meatloaf.” The room was packed. We plan to continue creating special
dishes each Wednesday that can be served “family style” or individually plated. Please
make reservations with the restaurant when you plan to attend. Our Tuesday twilight golf
scramble has become a monthly event. Keep an eye on your calendar and our blast emails
for the most current schedule. The members buffet is scheduled following each scramble.
On Friday, May 12th, we held our first “Tunes on the Terrace,” featuring a solo violinist,
David Rainwater. Every seat was filled and everyone had a great time. Special grilled
items served a la carte, homemade milk shakes and your favorite varietals from the
vineyards of northern California were the order of the day. The next “Tunes on the
Terrace” will be held Friday, June 9th, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm and will feature Doodoo Wah,
a duet folk music act performing political satire. We are also very excited about this
year’s “Music in the Park” scheduled Wednesday, June 14th with the Black Irish Band.
This year we have planned an international “street faire” of food stationed for your
pleasure and, of course, your favorite beverages. I hope you can join us!
In mid-June, I will send a bi-annual club update. In this address, I will review each
major area of the club and discuss the current status and future plans for development.
As part of this letter, I will summarize the key points raised in the last member survey

Chef’s Corner
Can you feel it in the air? Change is everywhere
and the summer season is coming into full
swing in the Saddle Creek Resort kitchen. We
are now offering “turn service” at the 10th
tee patio on Saturday and Sunday mornings
featuring breakfast egg croissant sandwiches.
These will be prepared for you to order on the
grille and ready to take right out on the course.
Whether it’s in your own home kitchen or
the Saddle Creek kitchen, summer is the
most exciting season. This is due to a huge
variety of incredibly fresh seasonal fruits and
vegetables (locally grown whenever possible)
that become available. Some of our favorites
include heirloom tomatoes, corn, green beans,
strawberries, watermelons and all varieties of
peppers. Look forward to enjoying these as well
as many others on our new seasonal summer
menu which will make it’s debut this month.
Copperopolis

May 5th & 6th, 2006
This annual event which is produced, directed and this year starring
our very special Saddle Creek team member, Linda Beck, raised
$5,000 towards the purchase of new equipment for the Copperopolis
volunteer firemen.

• June 18 is Father’s Day. We will introduce a new men’s line in June—Ben Hogan golf
apparel. Also check out a new assortment of putters: Odyssey, Titleist, Ping and Cobra.
Please remember…WE GIFT WRAP.
• Here is our putting tip of the month—“Watch the other guy.” When someone else is
putting, watch the ball while it is in motion at least two feet before the hole and one
foot beyond the hole. The ball motion will help with your read of your putt and may
even speed up play.
• Our first ever “Evening on the Green” for Saddle Creek was held on Wednesday,
May 10th. Eighteen new and old friends took on Chris Bitticks in a “closest-to-thehole” putting contest. Most members managed to “beat the pro” at least once. The
next “Callaway Evening on the Green” will be Friday, June 16th from 6 pm to 7:30 pm.
We will have a 3-hole putting contest, plus a hole-in-one competition. Prizes donated
by Callaway and Odyssey golf will be awarded. See you on the 16th.
• Holes-in-one needed: If you, or any member since the opening of Saddle Creek, have
had a hole-in-one, we need your name, date of ace, and which hole for the perpetual
plaque in the Member’s Lounge.

Music in the Parks
Wednesday, June 14th at Saddle Creek Resort
These free outdoor concerts are presented by the Calaveras Arts Council and are held
at different town parks throughout Calaveras County during the summer. We will kickoff the season at Saddle Creek with a performance by the Black Irish Band. The bands’
musical style captures the spirit of the men and women who tamed the Wild West.
The Black Irish Band is known for their Irish, Italian, and American folk music which
includes an assortment of original songs and traditional western ballads. They also play
traditional maritime and railroad music as well as a variety of ethnic tunes. The band
will perform outside from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.
We will be preparing an international
“street faire” of food on the 10th tee patio
in place of offering a members’ special
this evening. Several of the items that will
be available include beef kabobs, chicken
satay with peanut sauce, beef burritos,
and gourmet pizzas. These items will be
available from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
Picnic on the green or reserve early and
dine on the terrace, call 209.785.7400.
Green Report
Welcome to summer at Saddle Creek! What happened to Spring? It is mid-May as I write
this and it has reached 90 degrees already with more to come this week. It makes one
nostalgic for weeks of nothing but rain, but it is great golfing weather!
We have several aids on the golf course to make your game more enjoyable, including new:
• Rakes for the bunkers
• Yardage markers on the sprinklers
• Maroon flags on the greens. (I’m keeping the white ones and will use those occasionally)
• Markers on the tees
• Yardage plates for the cart paths and tee signs for each hole
We are also working on a new pin sheet with four new zones on the greens. The Golf
Shop will notify you when they are complete.
Johnson Construction will conclude the construction process of the driving range about June
1 at which time we will begin the grow-in phase. Johnson has installed sod over a portion of
the range, but the majority of turf will be grown from seed. I project that the driving range will
open around mid-August. Please refrain from using the driving range until you are notified that
it is open, as the grass needs time to establish a root zone and mature.
Continuation of GM Article,
front page
taken in January 2005. Our Advisory
Board has done an outstanding job
communicating the key items discussed
at our meetings and I hope to take this
a little deeper in my letter.
We have just about completed updating
each member profile in our POS software.
After reviewing the quality of images
in our system, we have decided to
upgrade the pictures of our members.
To accomplish this, we are asking that
each member visit the concierge desk
and have targeted Friday, Saturday and
Sunday between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm
to have their photos taken. These photos
will also become part of a Members’
Directory that will be assembled and
placed in the lobby for all to utilize.
Jonas On-Line is almost ready to serve
our members. With this program, you will
be able to make tee times, cancel tee
times, view our most current calendar of
activities, make dinner reservations, view
your statement, complete a survey on
events, and maintain your own personal
calendar and much, much more. We have
been testing the system with a few
volunteers and plan to be fully functional
by mid-June. A special email will be sent
to you explaining how to access the online site which will be attached to the
Saddle Creek Resort web site. We will
continue to use Golf Fusion to facilitate
golf events; however, Jonas On-Line will
become the central point of reference for
club activities.
On another note, Carter Morrish, Saddle Creek architect extraordinaire, visited on May
4 and 5. We toured the sight for the new nine holes and discussed the future here in
Copperopolis. This was a preliminary site visit and a small step towards more golf here
at Saddle Creek.
I hope you will be able to join me on
our next “Walk with William” scheduled
Friday, June 9th. During our one hour
walk, we have wonderful conversation
on a variety of club and other topics,
followed by a fitness breakfast of fruit
and granola. I hope you can join us!
Have any questions or comments? Please email me at [email protected] or call
me at 785-3701. See you on the course!
I look forward to seeing you soon at
Saddle Creek!
