Orlando Neighbors Enraged Over Gay Porn House

Gay Website Taxes Zoning Laws

Residents of the Lake Brantley
neighborhood in Seminole County
discovered their neighbors were running
a 24-hour gay pornography site after a
boy accidently broke a window with a
water balloon.
When neighbors of Brantley Harbor
went to the house to apologize for the
incident they noticed an array of cameras
and posters advertising a website. A
“curious” neighbor visited the site
(www.CollegeBoysLive.com) and
launched the neighborhood into a
firestorm of controversy.
Neighbors then went on the
offensive and contacted the Seminole
County Sheriff ’s Department, the
county’s Planning and Zoning
Department and their homeowner’s
association to find a way to get the men
out of their neighborhood.
Although the homeowner’s
association asked them to move, they
refused.
After an investigation into the
situation, Sheriff’s spokesman Steve
Olson said, “They haven’t broken any
laws.”
County zoning authorities are
“studying options.”
Charles Foulk, who leases the
house, runs the website and lives with
five other men said, “Why should we
move? If your neighbors
don’t like you, do you think
you should have to move?”
Foulk stated that he and
his roommates are doing
nothing more than living
their lives and letting 24
cameras throughout the
house capture their
activities.
George Donovan, who
lives three house from the
porn house, said, “It’s not
like he’s auctioning stuff on
eBay. He’s running a fullblown adult pornography
Web site.”
Other neighbors said
they have seen “10 name
guys running around, jumping from the
pool to the Jacuzzi”, nude men playing in
the back yard and on one occasion a
naked man answered the door.
Due to a federal court ruling in
September of last year, the neighbors
have no legal ground to stand on. The
11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled
that a similar operation in Tampa had the
right to operate in a residential area. Due
to the fact that customers do not actually
go to the house in person, the operation
of the business had no impact on the
neighborhood.
Seminole rewrote their adult
entertainment ordinances in 1997 and
1998 to better regulate and clean up their
“strip-bar district.”
After county official stated that
there was nothing they could do about
the situation, they hired Rick Nelson,
an expert on pornography and obscenity
regulation, to find a way to force the
business out of the Brantley Harbor
area.
Attorney for the website, David
Wasserman of Winter Park, insists that
Foulk’s business is perfectly
legitimate, and any legal challenges to
the same would be defeated in court.
