FC Kansas City News & Notes
Game Preview: FC Kansas City heads to Rochester, New York for a midweek match against
the Western New York Flash. The team is fresh off a resounding 4-0 victory over the Houston
Dash, the Blues are looking to extend their winning streak to three games. The Flash most recently fought the Portland Thorns to a 1-1 draw last Saturday in a rematch of the 2013 National
Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Championship game.
Kansas City heads into this match without three key players. Becky Sauerbrunn, Lauren Holiday
and Amy Rodriguez are all with the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) as they prepare to
play Canada on Thursday.
Western New York will be without four players who have been called to play with their respective national teams. Most notably, Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd will be with the USWNT while
Sonia Bermudez and Vicky Losada will be with the Spanish National Team
Rookies Jenna Richmond and Kassey Kallman have already played big roles in Kansas City’s
game plans this season, and they will be relied on even more Wednesday with the players KC
will be missing.
2013 Rookie of the Year, Erika Tymrak scored her first goal of the 2014 season last Saturday and
will be looking to create more opportunities Wednesday night. With Rodriguez out for Wednesday’s game, Melissa Henderson and Morgan Marlborough will look to fill in the scoring void.
Defensively, Kansas City will try to extend their 182 minute shutout streak without the 2013 defender of the year. They will rely on Polish National Team defender Nikki Phillips and goalkeeper
Nicole Barnhart to direct traffic and keep danger away.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00p.m. CT on Wednesday. The game can be seen live on FCKansasCity.
