Customer success =
our success
“It’s not really a drill you need, what you need
is a hole in the wall.” I am not sure who once said
this, perhaps it was a smart drill salesman, but its
simplicity puts the finger on that decisive issue for
all businesses. What is the customer need and
based upon this, how do you create the greatest,
most effective customer value?
Lindab’s customers do not offer their end
customers a collection of products, but rather
complete solutions in order to satisfy, as best as
possible, the need for a “good indoor climate”,
“lower energy consumption” or “well sealed, smart
looking roof systems”. Our business concept and
goal of simplifying construction is based upon this
insight, and influences our way of looking at customer value from a wider perspective.
When it comes to defining and understanding
customer value, our business concept and core
values are at the very heart of Lindab’s day-to-day
work. That is why we have chosen to reserve the
words simplifying construction as our business
concept, and to slightly amend the formulation of
our core values so that these are now – customer
success, down-to-earth and neatness and order.
Increased customer value – to deliver in the
right place at the right time, to rapidly resolve
problems, and to offer more efficient, greener solutions – is ultimately about understanding the customer need and thereby contributing towards their
success. Simplifying construction and customer
success then become the fundamental promises
that remain permanently at the top of our agenda.
Another issue on the agenda – for all of us –
concerns reduced energy consumption, a smaller
carbon footprint and an increasing desire to ‘do
the right thing’ from an environmental and sustainability perspective. Those of us who have “lived”
with steel for more than 50 years are well aware
of its benefits. Not only is steel one of the world’s
most recycled materials, it is also a material that
offers major environmental and efficiency benefits, for example through tighter duct systems,
sound and well insulated construction systems
and smarter, time-saving system solutions. We are
now starting to communicate this ‘story’ about
the environmental and efficiency benefits of steel
to a wider target audience, and within the theme
of ‘Think Less’, we will explain how Lindab’s solutions lessen the carbon footprint, lessen the energy consumption and lessen the assembly times,
to mention just a few examples. Less, pure and
simple. You are welcome to read more about this
on pages 10-11 in this issue of Lindab Direct.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank
Anders Persson, who has recently retired, for his
outstanding contribution to the Group for more
than 20 years. Anders’s roles included Factory
Manager, Business Area Manager and Director
of Human Resources. He truly exemplifies the
Lindab spirit and with his down-to-earth manner,
vast network and his feel for business, he has
contributed to Lindab’s success and thereby our
customers’ success. Thank you Anders!
2010 was a step in the right direction for
Lindab. From May 2010 onwards, our sales grew
once again. We can now look back on three consecutive quarters of improved business development and strengthening sales, both for us and for
many of our customers.
When I look at the economic development
in recent years, being the football fan that I am,
I have said that the economic climate was suddenly relegated to the third division. But that it is
now moving back up through the league tables,
although neither the world’s nor Lindab’s economy
has yet returned to the Premier League. However,
together with our customers we are moving in the
right direction, and it is my hope that by focusing
on customer success – and, as always “Simplifying construction” – we will move back up the table
even more rapidly.

New organisation within Lindab Sweden
Initiative for continued success
Lindab Sweden has been working under a
changed organisation since the start of February
this year. Christer Rapp, formerly Sales Manager
for Ventilation Sweden, now has the position of
Business Unit Manager for the Ventilation business area in Sweden and Håcan Dahlberg has
been given the responsibility for developing a
completely new post within the business area,
Key Account Manager for the Nordic region.
An conjunction with these changes, Håcan
Dahlberg leaves not just his position as Business
Unit Manager for Ventilation in Sweden, but also
his position as Administrative Managing Director for Lindab Sweden, which is being taken
by Joakim Lönnberg instead. However, Joakim
Lönnberg will remain in his central role as Manager for the Building Components business area
in Sweden.
Lindab has recently completed a reformulation of its three core values, which are now –
customer success, down-to-earth and neatness
and order. “All three are obviously fundamental
to us,” says Joakim Lönnberg. “But our new formulation ‘customer success’ certainly feels bang
on target, particularly during this stage when for
obvious reasons we are evaluating our business,
and there may well be further minor adjustments
in order to be able to act fully with this core value
in mind.”
“We are working in essentially different markets: Building Components in the residential
market and we within Ventilation, towards commercial construction and projects,” says Christer
Rapp. “But of course we will increase the degree
of synergy, especially if this can provide customer benefits. We want to offer our customers
solutions, service and support that is constantly
becoming more and more competitive. A good
example of this is the new drive we are making
with regard to residential ventilation.”
Few people have the experience and the
network that Håcan Dahlberg has, with a total
of 36 years at Lindab, including 22 as Managing
Director for Lindab Sweden.
“But sooner or later, you have to start thinking about rounding off, and I have therefore chosen to step back to make room for the younger
strength. Before I leave Lindab though, I shall
focus completely on developing this new and
important position, which aims to provide nationally and internationally active customers with
the best possible conditions for their work with
Lindab,” says Håcan Dahlberg. “This concerns
many customers that I already have a close relationship with, but new customers also fall into
this category. This is undoubtedly a pivotal role
that will be important to strengthen and develop
these important customer relationships. In the
case of Lindab Sweden, two talented guys are
now taking over to develop the business further.
Naturally, I wish them both the best of luck.”
Acoustic skills
becoming more
widespread
Following Lindab’s acquisition of the Finnish company IVK-Tuote, the level of cooperation and integration with other Lindab units is
increasing and more customers are benefitting
from the greater expertise they provide within
acoustic solutions.
“IVK has now been integrated with Lindab’s
organisation, significantly enhancing our expertise within the field of acoustics,” says Frank
Ankersen at Lindab Comfort. “We are now synchronising Lindab and IVK’s product ranges in
order to provide the best acoustic solutions on
the market. During the spring, acoustics projects
for markets in Russia, Estonia, Italy and Ireland
have already been implemented.”
“The strength we are now offering the whole
of Lindab is the flexibility and high adaptability
provided by our acoustic solutions,” says
Tuomas Veijalainen, Acoustic Product Manager
at Lindab. “With access to professional acoustics expertise, and the possibility for full-scale
testing in our sound laboratory in Farum, this
opens up new opportunities to create quiet,
comfortable, ventilation systems, regardless
of the type of building and ventilation requirements in question.” This new acoustic expertise,
combined with a very strong and ‘quiet’ product
portfolio, offers Lindab’s ventilation customers
and consultants throughout Western Europe,
the CEE and Russia even greater opportunities
to design and build ventilation systems that are
fully customised to meet the applicable noise
and acoustic demands.
Lindab Arena –
5 more seasons
Lindab and Rögle BK have reached an
agreement about extending the name rights
for the Lindab Arena, Rögle ice hockey team’s
home arena, by another 5 years to 2016.
“This will help us to build our long-term focus on the Elite series,” says Peter Hedlund,
CEO and Club Director at Rögle BK. “We are
proud that Lindab has chosen to extend the
cooperation and that this is seen as a way to
both support local business, increase brand
awareness of Lindab and the commitment from
customers and employees.”
Håcan Dahlberg (left) takes responsibility for the development of a new position, Key Account Manager for
the Nordic region within Ventilation. Joakim Lönnberg (middle) retains his role as Business Unit Manager
for Building Components Sweden, while Christer Rapp (right) is appointed Business Unit Manager for
Ventilation Sweden.

Stock market and share information
Q1 confirms positive trend
Lindab’s interim report for the first quarter
of 2011 showed an increased sales revenue of
12 % to SEK 1,377 m (1,234). Adjusted for currency and structure, the increase amounted to
19 %. The operating profit (EBIT) amounted to
SEK -7 m (-50), excluding one-off items of SEK
-17 m (75). The operating margin (EBIT), excluding one-off items, amounted to -0.5 % (-4.1), to
mention some of the key results contained in the
report.
“Since the second quarter of 2010, we have
seen a continuing trend that indicates a successive quarterly improvement in our financial
performance compared with the corresponding
quarter in the previous year,” says Per Nilsson,
acting CFO at Lindab. “This is now the third
straight quarter that we have reported a growth
in sales, and the fourth in succession with improved EBIT.”
“We have experienced another tough winter, although it was not as prolonged in some
markets,” continues Per Nilsson. “Obviously
we consider the sales increase of 19 % for the
quarter as satisfactory and as a confirmation of
the positive trends we are seeing, but we must
remember that the market trend is hard to interpret since the first quarter is low season and the
comparative quarter was even more greatly affected by the severe winter weather. Our outlook
for a weak and slow recovery in 2011 remains,
although we expect Lindab to perform better
than the construction market in general.”
Sales in the Nordic region rose 13 % during
the quarter. Adjusted for currency and structure
the increase was 17 %. Overall, the Swedish
market shows continued strong sales growth.
Sales in Western Europe grew by 5 %, when
adjusted for currency effects the increase was
14 %. Sales in the CEE/CIS increased by 28 %,
an increase of 41 % when adjusted for currency,
with the Russian and Belarusian markets showing strong growth during the quarter. “The margins were negatively affected as we could not
fully compensate for the increase in steel prices.
Pricing adjustments will therefore become more
and more important, especially since we are expecting substantial steel price increases in the
second quarter,” says Per Nilsson.
The Board of Directors recommended to the
AGM a dividend of SEK 1 per share. “This is
slightly above our dividend forecast, but it is reasonable in light of the fact that no dividend was
paid for 2009 and that performance improved
in 2010. It is also in line with the gradual, yet
upward trend we believe it now occurring,” continues Per Nilsson. “80 % of Lindab’s business
is aimed at non-residential construction, with the
remainder towards residential construction. At
present, the clear positive trend is being seen in
the housing sector, while we expect that growth
within non-residential will arrive at the end of this
year or in the spring of 2012.”
Per Nilsson has been acting CFO at Lindab since
March 2011.
“The acquisition of the Danish ventilation fan
company Juvenco and the decision to expand
Building Components distribution in Western
Europe and to start the first production unit in
Russia, are some examples of measures that
will improve our proximity and breadth, while
clearly showing that we are continuing to grow
with a focus on customer values,” concludes Per
Nilsson. “In summary, after the first quarter the
underlying trend remains positive for us and our
customers, as do continued enhancements to
our offering for simplifying construction.”

Group news
Lindab Direct May 2011
Nils-Johan Andersson steps over to Ventilation
For 12 years, Nils-Johan Andersson has
been the Group’s CFO. But now he is changing
roles and is moving over to business operations
in a direct and operational way. ,”I have worked
here under three CEOs, learned a great deal
about Lindab, and have come to see our company culture as one of our most important assets,” explains Nils-Johan Andersson when we
meet him three days into his “new job”. “When I
was asked if I would be interested in becoming
Business Area Manager for Ventilation, it was a
very simple and obvious decision.”
“I have closely followed the Ventilation
business area over many years, but for obvious
reasons from a different perspective,” continues Nils-Johan Andersson. “Now I will immerse
myself in our products and solutions, become
acquainted with the entire organisation and
not least, deepen my knowledge and contact
with our customers. The Ventilation business
area is a fantastically exciting operation, and
its focus on environmental and energy efficient
solutions provides the conditions for a very interesting development.”
Asking a newly appointed Business Area
Manager to comment on the strategy, direction,
and the continued business development is perhaps a bit too optimistic. “But we will now define
a clear strategy and activity plan for the business
area that is based upon our underlying Group
strategy,” continues Nils-Johan Andersson.
“An expanded distribution network that takes
us closer to the customer is one of the issues
that sits high on the agenda. I cannot say right
now how many new branches and distribution
points will be added during the year, but there
certainly will be some. We will also definitely
continue to work on strengthening our offering
of core products, ventilation ducts and fittings,
as well as on better utilising and capitalising on
our strong product portfolio within Comfort. The
new 10,000 m2 Czech production unit in Prague
provides additional opportunities to manufacture
and distribute this product range to our customers even more effectively than before.”
The majority of Lindab’s Comfort range has
been produced in this new unit since April, and
its efficiency results in a considerably faster and
better delivery service.
“Altogether, this is about refining our offer
ing and giving customers the product range that
suits them best – and to make this available
where the customers are,” concludes Nils-Johan
Andersson. “Our aim is to solve customer problems and eliminate the curses from their day-today lives.”
Nils-Johan Andersson is the newly appointed
Business Area Manager for Ventilation.
Twelve years as CFO at Lindab has given him a
thorough knowledge about the Group, as well as a
broad and well developed network of contacts.
Increased focus on acquisitions and business development
“Lindab’s new vision has its sights set on
making us ‘the best business partner for our
customers’ and on genuinely contributing to
customer success,” explains David Brodetsky,
President and CEO at Lindab. “The continued
development of our range is therefore highly
significant.”
The appointment of Anders Hofstedt as
new Business Development Manager at Lindab
should be seen from this very perspective. “I
am already very familiar with Lindab, its strategy
and business processes having been part of the
consultant team that contributed to the formulation of Lindab’s new strategy,” says Anders
Hofstedt. “I gained a very positive impression
of Lindab’s culture of open doors and its clear
focus on change and improvement, and I view
Lindab as a very exciting company. When I was
asked about taking on this new role, I really
didn’t need any time to think.”
A key aspect of this new post is to identify potential acquisition candidates that could
enhance Lindab’s offering. “I shall be working closely with our three business area teams
and assist them in this effort,” explains Anders
Hofstedt. “My goal is to provide support and
analytical back-up so that each business area
can seize any opportunities in the best way.
An understanding of customer needs is essential in this respect. In the consultancy work
that I previously participated in, we interviewed
nearly 1,000 customers to identify just that.
This knowledge, which we now take with us,
will come in handy when working with Lindab’s
business development. There is no contradiction between our profitability and success for
our customers, in fact the opposite. Our task
and my goal is to give customers the products
and solutions that they want, from a broad geographical base!”
Anders Hofstedt is the new Business Development
Manager at Lindab and he will be working with
issues concerning acquisitions and overall business
development for Lindab’s three business areas.

Short lead times and increased flexibility
Better flexibility, shorter lead times and
more consistent product quality are factors that
are strongly associated with production efficiency. During the year, a range of measures are being implemented to improve production at some
of Lindab’s various production units.
“Increased automisation is now giving us
tangible customer benefits in the form of more
even and consistently high product quality, while
also halving the lead times,” says Kenneth Lennartsson, Supply Chain Manager at Ventilation,
pointing to the concentration of manufacturing
for Comfort products that is now happening at
Lindab’s plant in the Czech Republic. “Through
the principle of one piece production, we can
now manufacture directly to order. This means
extremely short setting times, so for example we
can run a single MBB in one size, and after a few
seconds adjustment, produce another two of a
different size and deliver them the next day.”
This new factory unit, Karlovarska 2, will also
be built entirely according to lean production
– resulting in a production flow that further reinforces these customer benefits.
Steel beams in the form of C, Z and U profiles comprise a key element of Lindab’s product
range for steel halls. “With a new 35 metre long
edge-press line in triple configuration, we can
now offer tailor-made and customized profiles for
hall builders in beam lengths of up to 12.5 m,”
says Pål Abrahamsson, Project Manager for this
new line.
“This gives us shorter delivery times, as well
as straighter beams. Bending caused by heavy
plate thicknesses at these lengths can result in
a banana shape. We eliminate this completely
with the new line and gain a geometry and tolerance at a market-leading level,” adds Christian
Svensson Plant Manager at Lindab Profile. “Now
we can also provide customers with even better
opportunities to adjust the beam design to each
specific hall project.”
Lindab’s steel service centre at Lindab
Steel is expanding its operations by extending its machine park with a new line for slitting.
“For a long time, we have had four slitting lines
designed for various types of products and the
new line complements these by providing the
possibility to ensure fast reliable deliveries even
on occasions when maintenance and repairs are
temporarily being done on one of our lines, while
also adapting our capacity for future needs,” explains Kenneth Johnsson, Managing Director at
Lindab Steel, a company that supplies prepared
sheet steel to Lindab’s sales and production
units. “This investment provides an enhanced
customer service, and for our customers, having
the steel delivered in the right quantity and at the
right time is their lifeblood.”
The new edge-press line for beams at Lindab’s factory
in Förslöv is an example of production improvements
with customer benefits in mind.
Premiere of Lindab’s smart and cust
When the guidelines for the new home
page were drawn up, there were three major
changes in the spotlight. “We wanted a better
way of receiving our customers, and to present
ourselves from a clear customer perspective,”
says Mikael Carlsson, Project Manager for this
comprehensive web project. “Customers don’t
care about how we are organised; they are looking for ideas and solutions concerning their specific building projects. We have also found that
the vast majority of our visitors are private individuals, and we have therefore created a separate page aimed directly at consumers.”
A long internal list of requirements was behind the development work, as were market
analyses, a number of internal and external interviews and other inquiries. This was all in order
to create a home page that increases sales and
recognition of the Lindab brand.
As you read this, Lindab’s new home page will have
been launched as a global site, with local country
pages gradually being replaced during 2011.
8
“The second major change is that people
can now find the information they are looking
for more directly and more quickly,” continues
Mikael Carlsson. “We have therefore invested in
an intelligent search function, presenting users
with ‘live’ results as they type, from where they
can then easily select screen viewing, download
pdfs, etc. This makes it easy to find information
e.g. regarding a product and then access it in
whichever form is best.”
This also meant that the information aimed
at professional purchasers has been assembled
in a logical manner, while the consumer side is
heavily based on guides that facilitate the entire
product selection.
“The third key improvement is that you can
always obtain information about where to buy
products or get further information,” concludes
Mikael Carlsson. “For example, once you have
found your roof solution, you want to know
where to buy it. Google-based maps conven-

Exciting product launch at ISH
It’s easy with lindQST
The ISH exhibition in Frankfurt is one of the
world’s leading exhibitions within ventilation
and indoor climate. This year’s event had a
clear focus on energy-saving solutions and
sustainability. 204,000 visitors, including a
significant increase in the number of foreign
visitors, provided a clear signal of the heightened interest in such issues. This was also
clearly evident on Lindab’s stand, where a
growing list of satisfied visitors had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with energysmart Lindab Solutions including eHybrid and
MBB, as well as time-saving tools such as the
new lindQST.
“Judging from the reactions we received from our
visitors, we can honestly say that we are regarded as an
innovative and future-focused supplier and partner, with
well-developed product solutions that offer energy efficiency and contribute towards sustainability,” says Stefan Klocke, Business Unit Manager for Lindab Germany.
“If asked to single out a few solutions that attracted particular interest, I would mention our new tool for quick
product selection, lindQST, our new MBB plenum box
and the PC410 balancing device.”
car manufacturer’s ‘build-your-own-car’ programme on
the internet, offering the user very simple product selection and complete technical documentation via the
internet,” explains Stefan Klocke further. “MBB, which
was launched onto the German market at ISH, allows
for the design of completely flexible and adaptable ventilation systems with fewer dampers and silencers, but
with retained sound and air flow characteristics. A very
large dynamic working range and the simplest adjustments on the market are among the key benefits.
Accurate and reliable measurements of diffuser
airflow are a must for any well-functioning ventilation
system. With our new PC410 instrument, we offer the
user a tool for measuring this accurately, quickly and
easily. These new solutions, and the other products
that we presented, will undoubtedly have an impact
on our sales growth in the German market. With our
new ‘Think Less’ concept in place, we should further
strengthen our profile as a leading provider of energy efficient and sustainable indoor climate solutions. We are
very happy indeed!”
lindQST in particular was received with a virtual
standing ovation. “It is an easy-to-use web tool, like a
omised home page New Superbrand status
iently display nearby retailers and by printing off
the solution you have just made, you can take

merchant. There is much more to say about it,
but the simplest thing is to visit www.lindab.com.
Come on in!”
for Lindab
In January, Lindab became the only construction company to be
awarded the Customers’ Superbrand 2010 status in Romania.
“This result confirms once again that the strategy we
adopted in 1994 when we began operating in Romania
was correct,” says Andrei Sulyok, Business Unit Manager for Lindab Romania. “It is a particularly great
honour since this is a consumer award, and because it is very rare for companies in the construction industry, for example, to receive consumer
recognition. But together with our partners and
retailers, we have succeeded in establishing the
brand and our ability to simplify construction tremendously well. We couldn’t have a better foundation to continue working from.”

The Group’s new communication concept with sustainability in the spotlight
Think Less
WHAT
The “story” of the benefits of steel and our smart products and solutions for our customers and the environment
For over 50 years, we have contributed to
simplified construction with well thought out
and easy to use solutions in steel. But this
is also a smart way to better utilisation of
resources, for our environment and our customers. Our new communication concept,
Think Less, is all to do with this.
All successful companies have a good
story to tell. When we celebrated our
50th anniversary a few years ago,
we told the story of how our strong
entrepreneurship, the choice of steel
as raw material and ideas to make
life simpler for tinsmiths and builders
laid the foundations for Lindab. But
a good story need not be about just
history, it can also look forward and
indicate the possibilities for success
that strong companies can offer their
customers. Our new story, regarding Think Less, is precisely about
this. How the use of steel is not only
“simplifying construction”, but also
providing a number of strong benefits
from an environmental and sustainability perspective. Let us explain.
We have developed smart solutions for
the construction sector for more than half a
century. That is why it was natural to make
“simplified construction” our business concept, and “we simplify construction” our
slogan. When we chose steel as our material,
this was not guided by any environmental
considerations, since that was simply not on
the agenda at the time. Instead it was steel’s
potential with regard to the development of
smart and new well-thought out solutions
that proved decisive.
But steel can also be a suitable material
for producing ventilation ducts, roof drainage,
or entire buildings. It is one of the world’s
most recycled materials and means that 98 %
of what we produce is recyclable. It is a very
strong material, which permits light yet stable
structures with using material. In addition,
10
steel is easy to work with and never needs to
dry, benefits that save time during construction and provide sound building solutions.
“These were the benefits that we wanted
to highlight even more clearly and which
today, in 2011, are of great importance from
an environmental and sustainability perspective,” says David Brodetsky, President and
CEO of Lindab. “When we add to that the
benefits our products provide through less
energy consumption, a smaller carbon footprint and less material and time spent, we
felt more and more that we needed to clarify
and highlight the green and environmental
aspects of utilising Lindab’s benefits. The
idea behind our story, Think Less, was born.”
Think Less is only nine letters, two small
everyday words. But they are actually much
more than that. They summarise what
Lindab and “simplifying construction” stand
for from a modern sustainability and customer perspective. The common denominator
of the environmental benefits is “less”; less
material used, less material waste, less energy
lost, less carbon dioxide emitted. And the
customer benefits have the same common
theme, “less”; less work in planning and optimising, less time at the construction site, less
energy consumed for the building’s operation
and less maintenance.
“We already knew that the steel is a very
good environmental choice and that the way
in which we refine it makes things even better. What we lacked was a good way to tell
it,” adds David Brodetsky. “Building on the
message that ‘Lindab is green’ for example
would be no different from what many other
companies do, and we wanted to take it a

step further and perhaps be a bit more challenging in our message. We also wanted to
find a theme that suits all our business areas,
and that simply explains why steel is good and
how we make it even better. This ‘story’ also
perfectly supports our brand as well as our
main message of ‘simplifying construction’,
while also resting nicely on our core values.”
“The communication concept we are now
launching based on the theme Think Less will
hopefully get the recipient to just ‘think’ and
better understand how the use of our solutions for simplified construction contribute
to a lesser impact on the environment, but
also how the individual company’s business
benefits, for example through effective planning, faster installation and less maintenance,”
adds David Brodetsky. “The fact that our
solutions, in all business areas, also contribute
to less energy consumption during the building’s operation is a further advantage whose
importance is constantly increasing.
This ‘green’ message goes handin-hand with our fundamental
commitment to simplify
construction and both messages are designed basically to support both our
customers and our own
business. The story of steel
and the benefits of Lindab
were obviously there from
the beginning, but with Think
Less, we have created a strong,
clear and, hopefully, selling story about
the green and an efficiency bringing benefits
that we offer.”
Lindab collaborates with the international analysis and technology company WSP
when it comes to independent mapping of
LCA (life cycle analyses) for Lindab’s central
products. “WSP made these analyses based
on a cradle-to-gate perspective, i.e. the impact
of Lindab’s products has been calculated
from the mining of iron ore to begin with,
up to the finished products leaving our factories,” explains Johan Fridh, Environmental
Manager at Lindab. “This strain has been
restated in the unit GWP, Global Warming
Potential, which is a measure of a material’s
impact on the greenhouse effect and thus on
global warming. If we look at our Rainline
roof drainage product, WSP’s report shows
that products in galvanised steel have the
most favourable GWP value of the market’s
typical materials for roof drainage. The same
goes for Coverline where WSP analysed sheet
metal roofs and compared this against concrete roof materials and ceramics. The impact
of steel is again much lower. WSP has also calculated the carbon footprint for all the product groups in the Ventilation and Building
Components business areas, and for Building
Systems the analyses are now being done.”

the capacity for success and growth, thereby
strengthening Lindab and our stakeholders.
“Whether you look at it from a commercial, environmental or social perspective, it is
easy to see how well the concept Think Less
fits into Lindab’s entire structure,” concludes
Carl-Gustav Nilsson, “and how it – along with
our strategy and vision, our core values and

Halmstad, Sweden
Investing in a building requires
many pieces to fall into place. The
money must be there, the design and
construction process must function
smoothly and on time, and furthermore, the premises must offer the
flexibility and adaptation the tenant
needs. However building contractor Bygg Andersson saw no problem
constructing an industrial park with
tenants as diverse as a printer, a golfing wholesaler and ambulance station.
Not with Lindab as partner and supplier of a complete steel hall solution.
“When we started on this project for the
property management company Utsikten,
we didn’t know exactly who the tenants
would be,” says Henrik Andersson at Bygg
Andersson, “but one of the advantages of
Lindab’s steel hall system is precisely the
concept’s flexibility and adaptability, meaning
that we can flexibly adapt the premises as the
tenants come along.”
Bygg Andersson has worked with Lindab
for more than 15 years, particularly in conjunction with various types of steel hall
project. “We have built around one steel hall
12
a year in recent years and have found that
Lindab’s solutions really work very well,” says
Henrik Andersson. “In terms of construction
technology, Lindab’s steel hall solutions offer
us free spans of 6 m and a ‘built in’ fire classification, providing major possibilities when
designing the layout.”
“We have got a pleasant premises that
really suits our needs,” says Peter Hansson, at
Hägges Golf, one of the tenants at the industrial park. The entire 1,400 m2 building basically consists of a full kit from Lindab, which
in addition to steel frames, beams, sheet metal
coverings and roof drainage system also
includes windows, doors and gates.
“Access to a complete package solution,
where Lindab helps us with the design, technical calculations and drawings, gives us a
perfect logistics and, in particular, a rapidly
put together building which means a great
deal of course,” continues Henrik Andersson.
“The fact that Tomas Ledel and his colleagues
at Lindab have been there from the start
provides a degree of comfort throughout the
project. The solution to a problem is never
more than a phone call away.”
The building’s facade is composed of
sandwich panels in dark grey and silver.
Other Lindab products include LTP 115 in
the roof, Z-250 beams, plus Construline partition walls and Doorline industrial doors.
In addition, the ventilation installer Oscar
Hanson VVS has installed a complete
Lindab Safe ventilation system in the building, making it all the more a veritable Lindab
Solution.
Simple and smooth assembly is an important prerequisite for the financing of every
construction project. ‘For example, when fitting profiled sheeting to the beams, we can
fasten it directly to the steel beams using a
bolt gun,” says Jörgen Markow, fitter at Bygg
Andersson. “Screwing it would have taken
twice as long.”
“Simple assembly also applies to all the
other elements in the steel hall construction,
since this is about a large, precise and well
thought out ‘Meccano’,” concludes Henrik
Andersson.

Say the word “steel building”. For
many, this leads to direct associations
with the box-shaped buildings used
as warehouses, distribution centres
or production facilities, with decidedly ordinary architecture in which
functionality is undoubtedly a major
aspect. Lindab Buildings (formerly
Astron) are certainly an excellent
choice for this type of building, but
they also represent a wise choice
for the investor or architect wishing to add form to function. The new
Porsche centre in Kharkov, Ukraine
is a glowing example of how efficient
construction, optimal performance
and striking corporate architecture
can all be combined through the use
of Lindab Buildings.
The new Porsche centre, located in
Kharkov – the country’s second city, is distinguished by its unique architectural and technological design, which complies fully with
the guidelines and international standards
for the Group’s buildings as laid down by the
parent company Dr. Ing. hcF Porsche AG.
“Prestige Automotors, who placed the

order, sought not only a supplier that could
satisfy the design requirements stipulated
by the architectural firm Obolyanenov AV,”
explains Leonid Linkov from Lindab, “they
also wanted a supplier that could present a
complete building solution with a quick and
efficient installation time. Happily, the solution we presented was chosen, and the speed
and breadth of our product system played a
crucial part in this.”
The nearly 1,800 m2 building, which
besides the showroom and sales department
also includes a complete workshop hall for
seven vehicles and spare parts inventory, consists of a Lindab steel building with a mezzanine floor. The building was constructed and
delivered by the Lindab Builder Karkas. The
official opening took place at the end of 2010,
with attendees including Peter Rondyak,
Brand Director at Dr. Ing. hcF Porsche AG,
as well as Martin Limpert, Regional Manager

Snuff is unquestionably popular in
Scandinavia. Imperial Tobacco, the
world’s fourth largest tobacco company, last year sold 10 million packets
to this market through its subsidiary
and brand Skruf. In order to handle
these volumes more rationally, and
in order to be prepared for further
growth, Skruf Snus recently moved
its production in the Småland town of
Sävsjö from the old dairy into a brandnew ultra-modern factory on the outskirts of the community. This new
building contains an extensive battery
of Lindab products, which combine
to provide a good indoor climate and
reduced energy consumption.
“The reason why we recommended Lindab
to supply the chilled beams, diffusers and plenum boxes, as well as silencers and air flow
regulators, was purely due to the fact that they
supply good products and offer first-class technical support,” explains ventilation consultant
Boo Iwarson at Axro Consult. “Getting help
regarding product selection and calculations,
especially in projects like these with high ceilings, long throws and generally high system
complexity, is also of great importance.”
In the factory’s production and storage
facilities, Lindab’s RCW diffusers, DAD nozzles and DAU air flow regulators are responsible for air distribution. “The heat generated
by machines and process equipment at different operating levels give rise to large pressure differentials,” Boo Iwarson continues to
explain. “In this respect, RCW plays a particularly important role as the supply air temperature automatically controls the blade angle
on the RCW, which in turn ensures a good air
supply in the entire room of both cooled and
heated air. In the production unit’s hygiene
areas, a continuous positive pressure must
be maintained, and here the runs conducted
by Martin Haglund and Lindab have been a
great help.”
In the factory offices, Lindab’s Professor
chilled beams and the new MBB plenum box
are being combined to provide ventilation
and cooling. “By using chilled beams in the
ceiling to cool the air as it passes the beam,
the energy consumption can be reduced significantly compared to distributing chilled air
from centrally located cooling units,” adds
Boo Iwarson, “and Lindab is undoubtedly
at the forefront in this respect. And as I said
before, the personal contact, a clear hallmark
of Lindab, is extremely important for smooth
and efficient project planning.”
Värnamo Nya Plåtslageri has been
responsible for all installation work. The
company has many years’ experience of
Lindab. “In this particular project, the installations have taken place in parallel with
the gradual move into the premises,” says
Anders Svensson of Värnamo Nya Plåtslageri.
“Lindab has really stood up and followed our
precise delivery schedule to the letter, and
the assembly has gone smoothly as usual. The
same can also be said for the new MBB box,
which was easier and simpler to fit thanks to
its smaller dimensions.”
The adjustments to the system and the
MBB boxes were carried out by FLK. “This
went exceptionally well,” says Styrbjörn
Werneström at FLK. “The plenum boxes are
nice and quiet, and we have now learned the
new adjustment method based upon MBB.
This means future adjustments and adaptations can be made simpler, while the basic settings can be made more precisely.”

New focus on ventilation for homes and holiday
properties, with Lindab Denmark first on the scene
Lindab
home ventilation
WHAT
Lindab is now making a substantial investment to become established in a new growing segment – Home ventilation
Lindab’s ventilation solutions have
almost always been associated with
commercial construction. But new
energy requirements and an increasing focus on energy-saving solutions,
even for homes and holiday properties, are making home ventilation into
a new emerging market segment.
That is why Lindab is now making
a completely new venture with the
launch of the Home ventilation product area.
“The home ventilation segment is currently growing by about 20 percent each year
in Europe, making it one of the strongest
growth areas in the ventilation market,” says
Jan Hesel, who recently joined Lindab as
Manager for the Home Ventilation product
area. “The reason for this is the emergence of
increasingly strict construction and ventilation standards through the EPBD (European
Performance Building Directive), which in
simple terms means that we must consume
less and less energy. One effect of this will be
better insulated and airtight houses, which in
turn requires good air circulation and effective ventilation systems. That’s why we are resolute in launching our ventilation and indoor
climate solutions for a brand new audience.”
Balanced ventilation with heat recovery
is a solution that provides both a significantly
improved indoor climate and reduced energy
consumption. “We will offer market-adapted
packages and solutions for home ventilation,
16
entirely dependent on the individual market
requirements and standards,” says Jan Hesel.
“This analysis of the various markets is a
process that is currently ongoing, but several
markets have actually begun already such as
Denmark, Italy and Belgium.”
The typical target audience for the
Ventilation business area comprises ventilation installers who mainly work with installations for commercial construction. “Now,
in collaboration with our installers, we will
also be turning toward the private market.
Denmark, for instance,
has created a complete
concept with marketing to consumers and a
partnership with selected installers as well as
cooperation with financial institutions nationwide. The basic message
will focus around the
importance of energy
conservation and a
healthy indoor climate,
but the arrangement
in each market will be
more or less adapted to
that country,” continues
Jan Hesel.
“We see great potential for ventilation solutions in private residences,” says Puk Spencer,
Sales Director for Lindab Ventilation in
Denmark. “Low-energy houses and energysaving measures are putting new demands on
ventilation to provide a healthy indoor climate. Now, for the first time, we will be seen
directly by the private market and homeowners, and we are aiming for a 30 percent market share for home ventilation in the space of
a few years. The marketing campaign, including nationwide TV advertising that began in
early spring, is the biggest communication
activity from Lindab Denmark in a long time.
By cooperating with a number of approved

and professional dealers covering the whole
of Denmark, as well as a collaboration with
Nykredit with regards to financing solutions,
we hope for very positive sales. Our absolute
goal is to establish Lindab home ventilation
as the obvious, secure and easily installed
solution for the Danish private market.
The TV advertising is obviously designed
to spark interest in issues regarding home
ventilation in Danish homes and to highlight
Lindab’s brand and solutions to a completely
new audience. But above all, it is to generate
traffic to the new campaign site www.villaventilation.dk. “Visitors to the site will meet the
Storm family, and will gain access to everything they need to know about indoor climate, home ventilation and the great solutions we offer,” concludes Puk Spencer.
“There are also links to our dealers, plus the
possibility to easily calculate the cost for
‘their new system’ and obtain a quote. We
are already seeing a great deal of interest in
this new concept, and an increased awareness of Lindab as a ‘provider’ of healthy
indoor climate!”
“Our expertise within ventilation also
makes us the natural choice for this type of
application,” concludes Jan Hesel. “We have
a very broad product portfolio and high
availability in most markets. The new energy
requirements that are now emerging and taking hold in more and more markets gives us
a golden opportunity, not just to increase our
business volume in our core products, but
also to create sales and success for our partners. Furthermore, we get to be part of and
help thousands of people achieve a healthier,
allergy-safe and pleasant home environment
to socialize, sleep and live in. It is also quite
logical and natural that we are now taking on
the role to lead and drive development in this
emerging segment. Who else would do it?”
Lindab Denmark’s new “Lindab home ventilation”
venture, includes collaborations with 10 approved
and well established installers that together cover
the entire country.
Belgian seminar shows the energy benefits of Class C duct systems
Eliminate leaks and save money
lindab | we simplify construction
Airtightness class B has long been the norm
for ventilation duct systems in Belgium, but
in recent times, a move towards class C
has taken place with increasing numbers
of consultants recommending this, not only
for tough environments but also for offices
and regular buildings. The reasoning is the
growing awareness of energy issues and
a desire to reduce CO2-emissions, as well
as the requirement made by the Belgian
Buildings Agency, (Belgium’s National Board
of Housing, Building and Planning) for all
government buildings to have class C as
standard. To put additional focus on these
issues, Lindab Belgium invited some hundred installers and consultants to a seminar
regarding class C duct systems.
“Our aim was to show how much money you can
save by using airtight, class C systems,” explains Dirk
Van den Branden, Business Unit Manager at Lindab
Belgium. “By using Lindab duct systems, both circular
and rectangular, it is easy to achieve an airtightness of
class C and even class D with our Lindab Safe Click
system.”
The seminar, which attracted no fewer than
80 consultants and installers, included a theoretical
part and a practical assembly part. “The first part was
based on the research and findings from Ingenium,
a renowned specialist, particularly within energy
consultancy and audits,” continues Dirk Van den
Branden. “They have developed a method and a calculation model for estimating the energy gains from
moving towards more airtight duct systems. Lindab
Belgium has taken advantage of these findings and
has created a web tool, Calc-Leak, which can easily
calculate the energy savings and the payback time for
a class C installation.”
A Calc-Leak calculation was performed during the
seminar, based entirely on Ingenium’s actual calculaWe simplify

tions, which showed
that going
from class 2.5A to C
for a 150 beds hospital measuring 12,000 m2 would
involve a payback time of less than 4 months and an
annual saving of over EUR 50,000.
“This most definitely pricked up the ears,” says
Dirk Van den Branden. “We then finished off with all
the participants taking part in assembling and measuring two systems: a ‘traditional’ system and a Lindab
Safe Click system. The simple assembly and the airtight result for Safe Click further increased the participants’ enthusiasm and we now have high hopes for
a strong growth in sales for our airtight solutions.”

Litecom is one of Denmark’s betterknown events companies and is

productions including the Eurovision
Song Contest, All Stars, X-factor, as
well as the Swedish ‘P3 Guld’ Awards.
When they moved into new premises
just outside Copenhagen one year
ago, not only did they want a modern
building with logistics and functionality, it should also reflect the feeling
and attitude the company represents.
With the help of the Lindab Builder
Saabyg and solutions from Lindab,
they got just that.
The Kirstinehøj industrial area at Amager
just south of Copenhagen, is similar to most
other industrial areas, building after building
without any direct character or personality.
However one building does break this pattern. Litecom’s black clean facade in coated
steel cassettes, arched ceilings and interesting
facade details really stands out with a completely individual and unique identity. It has
also, quite rightly, received plenty of positive
comments about this. “We heard suggestions
18
about a more conventional concrete building, but we also had contact with a forging
company, which also made us think in terms
of steel. They recommended Saabyg and their
steel construction systems, Lindab Buildings,”
says Erik Bremer Sørensen, founder of
Litecom who is now transferring the business
over to his sons. “We chose Saabyg and their
solution from Lindab because to the flexibility and the possibilities they could offer. We
had plenty of ideas that we could apply, but
we also wanted to send a signal of aesthetics
through our new building and I really think
that we have achieved that goal.”
Saabyg has been a Builder since 1977
and has constructed around 30 Lindab buildings (formerly Astron) since then. “We have
always received great support from Lindab
Buildings in Mainz, Germany and we have
easy contact with their Danish/Swedish
speaking personnel. Technical German is
perhaps not our forte, but Fritjof Kviske and
the team at Lindab solved these problems
for us,” explain Charlotte and Jesper Saabye,
two of three siblings currently heading the
company. “When we consider new projects,
we are always looking at whether a solution
with Lindab Buildings would be appropriate,
but of course we also offer ‘traditional’ construction if that fits better, or if the customer
wants it. Even in these projects, we have used
more and more products from Lindab such
as Rainline, Coverline and Construline, simply because of their excellent product quality,
wide product range plus good support and
great service.”
Litecom’s building is a Lindab building
combining storage and office areas with an
internal roof height of 8.5 metres. Saabyg
has recently added a mezzanine level, giving
a total surface area of 1,870 m2. The building’s facade consists of Lindab Coverline flat
sheet that Saabyg bent into the cassettes and
Doorline industrial doors.
The building has recently been named
“Lindab building of the year 2010” by 400
Lindab Builders, even further evidence of the
building’s tremendous quality.

Torpheimer System
WHERE
Linköping, Sweden
Mjärdevi Science Park in Linköping
is a centre of excellence, where high
tech and development-intensive companies within telecommunications,
software development and electronics
cooperate with Linköping University.
Svenska Autoliv, world leader in automotive safety, is one of the companies
with a business unit there. When their
premises needed to be renovated, the
focus was on low energy consumption, sealing the offices and installation work that disturbed the company’s continuing operations as little as
possible. Lindab Plexus was a key part
of the solution.
The building where Henry Ståhl Fastig
heter leases three storeys to Autoliv was
formerly used as a hotel. “Each room was
equipped with a fan coil unit for heating cooling and airflow,” explains Project Manager
Åke Andersson at Torpheimer System, who
was responsible for the installation. “This
solution is based on recirculating air and is
therefore something that is not desirable for
today’s offices. The question then was which
indoor climate solution we should choose in
order to disrupt the company’s operations as
little as possible, yet still install adequate ventilation with lower noise and high efficiency
requirements.”
Torpheimer has worked with Lindab as
a supplier of ventilation and indoor climate
products over many years. “Obviously we
knew about Lindab’s Plexus chilled beam,”
continues Åke Andersson, “but when Rolf
Palmqvist presented the new Plexus – which
combines heating and cooling, all the pieces
fell into place. This allowed us to propose an
energy-efficient solution for room ventilation,
heating and cooling without the need to introduce a radiator system into the picture. This
gave not only a much lower investment cost,
we could also present an installation solution
that would result in the slightest disturbance
for Autoliv.”
Today, there are approximately 100 Plexus
cooling and heating beams in the offices and
conference rooms on the first three floors.
These have been easily connected to the
existing duct system as each room previously
served as a fire compartment with its own supply and exhaust duct. “We undoubtedly have
a faster and simpler installation,” says Niklas
Ahlstedt of Henry Ståhl Fastigheter, “as well
as reduced energy consumption and a much
quieter system. Intermittent night-time operation with return air, room control and newly
installed electric chamber fans have contributed to this further.”
This new system has also meant that
Autoliv has been able to seal its office environment, since the room solution is now able
to provide a healthy indoor climate for two
people with fresh, tempered air. “We didn’t
just want to satisfy the company’s request in
full, but also to raise the building’s ventilation
and energy standard from ‘1989 to 2011’. In
addition, Autoliv is working through much
of the project, with four people suddenly sitting in one room, and so the system must also
accommodate this. That is why the solution
we worked out together with Torpheimer
and Lindab is perfectly in several ways,”
says Niklas Ahlstedt further. “The creation
of modern and appropriate premises where
our tenants can be comfortable and happy is
obviously one of our key motivations. That is
when it is important to have partners they can
trust and who are at the cutting edge of technology with their solutions.”
Plexus resulted in a flexible, energy and costeffective solution for a modern indoor climate.

Indoor climate system for LEED and Green Building certified office building
Active selection of active diffusers
Länsförsäkringar Kalmar’s new headquarters is not just a first class office building,
it is also the first LEED and Green Building
certified construction that Skanska has built
for an external customer. “Less environmental impact locally, lower energy consumption and a better working environment are
some of the objectives we had for this new
office building,” says Johan Nielsen, Project
Manager at Skanska. “The fact that we
chose to seek both LEED and Green Building certification is a mark of the importance
that we at Skanska assign to these matters.
A complete indoor climate system from
Lindab including active diffusers has been
an important part of this solution.”
“Green Building is simply about energy consumption, while LEED has a broader approach concerning other environmental factors during both the
construction process and during operation,” explains
Johan Nielsen. “We see these certifications as partly
complementary, but for this external project we really wanted to be on the safe side regarding a ‘green’
solution. We have measured an energy consumption of about 26 % below building regulations and
already that ‘gives us’ the Green Building and know
that we have also achieved LEED Platinum. During
the project, we chose to modify the ventilation
system’s structure for Lindab active diffusers and
demand-controlled ventilation and thereby reduce
energy consumption. I think these solutions are very
exciting.”
went smoothly,” says Ingrid Persson at VVS-byrån
in Växjö who designed the system on behalf of
Skanska Inneklimat. “The system, which works with
both variable flow and constant flow, put demands
on the calculations, product selection and overall system design, and in these matters we received good
support from Lindab.”
LCPV works with a built-in damper that controls ventilation and lighting via Lindab Regula
occupancy sensors. “This creates a minimised air
flow and thus a lower energy consumption, which
was exactly what we wanted to achieve,” says Ingrid
Persson. “Having also designed the entire system in
CADvent, I could divide up the system and supply
the order documents to Skanska Inneklimat.”
Lindab’s delivery to the project included all supply, exhaust and transfer diffusers, as well as a complete Lindab Safe duct system with fittings, dampers
and silencers. “Choosing Lindab’s duct system was
an obvious choice as our technicians are both familiar and happy with this product system, but because
Lindab could present a complete and attractive
overall solution, we opted to buy everything from
Lindab,” says Ulf-Göran Roos, Skanska Inneklimat.
“The solution, developed by VVS-Byrån in Växjö
with support from Lindab, also perfectly matched
the requirements placed for the indoor climate system from a LEED and Green Building perspective.”

Lindab Rainline – the natural choice for environmentally conscious architects and builders
Innovative sustainability
WHAT
Delivery of Lindab Rainline roof drainage system for apartment project in historic setting
CUSTOMER
BSS Drainage – Cooke & Harris
WHERE
Bristol, UK
Brownfield Development means the
reclamation of buildings and land that
for various reasons has been abandoned. Such sites are often dilapidated and have remained unused for a
number of years. In the late 1990s, the
British government decided that 60 %
of all renovation and new construction would be carried out at Brownfield
Developments. Linden Homes is a
construction company that has developed a strong position in this field.
It recently undertook a major project
in Bristol’s Victorian harbour. Strict
demands were made regarding aesthetics, as well as on sustainability.
Lindab Rainline was therefore a natural choice.
Moored in Great Western Dockyard in
Bristol, one of the most famous harbours
in the country, is the historic ship SS Great
Britain. When she was launched in 1843 and
first took to the water in Bristol’s port, the
SS Great Britain was a marvel of combined
high-technology – a fully rigged ship with a
hull of steel, equipped with a massive 1,000
hp steam engine that in turn drove the screw
propeller, which was highly advanced for its
time. After the equivalent of 32 circumnavigations, she now sits leisurely at the wharf in the
restored Victorian port area, offering a pleasant, relaxing view from many of the 145 luxury
apartments that have recently been built by
Linden Homes.
22
Architectural firm Stride Treglown has worked
methodically and carefully to ensure that the
architecture of the apartment complex combines a sense from the classical harbour buildings with a modern expression.
The use of sustainable materials and
solutions has long been the focus of Linden
Homes, and it is in light of this that Lindab
Rainline roof drainage was chosen. A recent
Swedish environmental study also placed
Lindab Rainline a class apart from the market’s other roof drainage systems in terms of
carbon footprint, and this obviously affects
the choice of Rainline when sustainability is a
deciding factor.
“We specified Lindab Rainwater goods on
our Great Western Dockyard project because
this highly engineered system of well designed
components complemented the modern architectural language of our building design,”
explains Gary Milliner from Stride Treglown.
“It was also suitably fitting for this historic site
famous for its engineering design.”
Lindab’s long time retailer, BSS Drainage,
supplied Lindab Rainline in black HB polyester and in pure galvanised form, to the
contractor Cooke & Harris, who have been
responsible for all roof drainage installation.
From 1843 to 1886, the SS Great Britain was a stark
example of what progressive engineering could
accomplish through the use of steel and technology.
Today, she lies quietly alongside the dock; however
modern engineering in the form of steel and technology is still present. Lindab Rainline is perhaps a more
discreet example of this, yet on the other hand it is
far more sustainable.

Axima
WHERE
Besançon, France
For the past decade, Lindab France
has been working hard to develop the
duct system product area, with Lindab
Safe at its heart. One of the customers to have chosen airtight and easily assembled Lindab duct systems in
the past 10 years is Axima, France’s
leading installer in the field and a
subsidiary of GDF Suez, the world’s
biggest energy group. “A while ago,
we began launching key parts of our
Comfort programme, while maintaining our focus on duct systems,” says
Michael Blanc at Lindab. “The delivery
of Plexus chilled beams and a complete duct system to Axima and Pôle
Emploi is one among several interesting orders that clearly demonstrate
the customer benefits we offer.”
Axima in Mulhouse has plenty of experience as a supplier of Lindab duct systems.
“Now we are taking a step further and we are
also including Lindab’s more technical products in our project solutions,” says Sylvain
Berna at Axima Seitha. “When Laurent
Pascolo at Lindab Mulhouse presented the
Plexus chilled beam, we realised that this
could be perfect for the Pôle Emploi project
in Besançon. Indeed, the combination of our
know-how and capability within installation,
together with Lindab’s expertise in indoor
climate solutions resulted in an order being
placed.”
Based on the ventilation consultant’s
drawings and thermal calculations, Lindab
conducted a feasibility study to calculate the
capacity requirements, air and water flows, etc.
using the Lindab Calculation Tool.
Pôle Emploi is the new governmental
organisation formed through the merger of
the French employment service units Anpe
and Assedic. This new organisation will provide the unemployed with better opportunities and enable them to handle their contacts
through a single party.
“This reorganization also involves some
investment in the form of new local offices,”
explains Denis Berzin at the investor Immo
Temis. “In Besançon, for instance, we recently
built an office for the France Comté region
where the ventilation consultant recommended chilled beams as a more energy efficient
alternative to a traditional fan coil solution.”
“With the complete indoor climate system and its 60 Plexus units in place, we can
easily say that we have got exactly what we
were after,” continues Denis Berzin. “Chilled
beams without the need for maintenance, a
clear energy saving, low noise levels and, of
course, fresh air and comfortable surroundings. The system has now been in operation for about six months and we have not
had any comments from users. That nearly
always means that people are rather satisfied!
Lindab’s ability to stick to their delivery times,
along with great technical support, means that
we will be happy to see the Lindab/Axima
combination again.”
“Because we were not as familiar with the
use of chilled beams, Lindab’s support and
our good contacts with them played a large
and important role,” concludes Sylvain Berna.
“The feasibility study conducted by Laurent
Pascolo and Michael Blanc meant that we
could present a complete and well-balanced
solution for Pôle Emploi with the Plexus as
the key component. During the installation,
we also noted that Plexus is easy to install and
reduces the installation time. Plexus’s unique
Jetcone technology made it easy to adjust
the settings on the individual chilled beams.
Lindab will undoubtedly continue to be a
partner in future projects of this type.”
In the local Pôle Emploi offices in Besançon, France, fresh cool air is provided by Lindab’s duct system together with around 60 Plexus chilled beams.

Lindab Academy comes to life with a new look
Lindab Academy creating knowledge and security
In 1597, the English philosopher Francis
Bacon stated that “knowledge is power” and
nothing in the last 400 years has challenged that
prevailing wisdom. To acquire knowledge and insight into how things work and how they can be
best utilised is simply a good idea, so when Lindab created the Lindab Academy for its customers and retailers a few years ago, this initiative
was very positively received. After years of effort,
however, the courses were more or less put on
hold, although many of the new markets, such
as in the CEE, adopted the idea for themselves
and started their own training programmes.
Now however, it is time for a new, broad-based
education initiative, so the Lindab Academy has
been born.
In Sweden, Lindab is now focusing on a
new round of training aimed at builders’ merchants (BMH) and their employees. “Sweden
is a long country, so attracting customers and

Academy on tour.
their employees here to Förslöv, as we did the
last around, is not easy,” explains Fredrik Bergh,
Sales Manager for BMH at Lindab Sweden.
“Because we are constantly working to ‘simplify’
we thought, let’s come to them instead. Our
new Lindab Academy on Tour will now travel the
length and breadth of the country, visiting and
training customers on the spot. At the wheel,
and in charge of the training, is Anders Bergstrand, a familiar face from the Lindab Academy
and a professional who has appeared on the
‘Home at last’ and ‘The angry builder’ TV shows
in Sweden.”
All retailers in the building retail trade will be
visited by Anders Bergstrand and the Lindab
Academy on Tour, together with sales representatives. “In 2011, we hope to be able to train
around 100 of our retailers in an initial phase.
Familiarising our retailers’ personnel with our
product systems is extremely important in the
current situation, with all the new discount chains
in the market,” says Fredrik Bergh. “We want our
customers’ employees to be able to serve and
inform builders and DIY enthusiasts in the best
way possible, so training is vital. This way, we
gain more than 1,000 ‘new’ sales representatives
who can explain confidently and knowledgeably
all about Lindab’s guttering, profiled sheeting,
studs, home ventilation, garage doors and roof
safety. This clearly makes the Lindab Academy a
strategically important initiative.”
A Lindab Academy has also been opened
in Romania, also with a focus on independent
retailers and partners. “We train the customer’s
sales staff, as well as the craftsmen employed by
the customer who perform the actual installation
work,” says Andrei Sulyok, Business Unit Manager at Lindab. “We want to make them as familiar as possible with our product systems and
the advantages they offer, which is why we have
a fairly ambitious programme comprising three
modules, each one covering two days of training.
In Romania, Lindab is alone in offering resellers and
partners a substantial training package. The Lindab
Academy has been very well received and 300
customer representatives have been trained during
the spring.
The goal is obviously to increase the service capabilities of our partners and their personnel, as
well as to increase brand awareness of Lindab.
“The training has been under way since February
and has been very well received. “I have sold and
worked with Lindab’s products for six, maybe
seven years, and thought I knew everything.
To my surprise, that wasn’t the case, but now I
have now learned new things that will further my
ability to sell and to highlight Lindab’s benefits,”
remarks one satisfied participant.
Lindab helps flood victims
In the summer of 2010, Dorohoi in
northern Romania was affected by severe
flooding and a large number of families
were made homeless. The charity organisation, Habitat for Humanity, decided
to build a number of houses and turned to
local businesses for support. “We decided
to provide complete roofing systems for
eight of the newly built houses, and we
24
installed the new completely watertight
roofs in two days with the help of our partners,” says Andrei Sulyok, Business Unit
Manager at Lindab. “This was widely reported in the media, but above all it was
hugely appreciated by those concerned
and their families.”

New solutions for beautiful roofs

Roof solutions have always played a central role in Lindab’s product range, and now the
bar is being raised even further by launching a
series of exciting new roof products.
“Standing seam roofing has long been a
roof covering that has been high on wish list
of many homeowners, yet it has also been a
costly and complicated alternative,” says Jan
Tomberg at Lindab. “We are now turning this
upside down with the launch of our new SRP
Click. This is a sheet metal profile with an appearance borrowed from the traditional standing seam roof, but where the profiles are simply
clicked together, without special tools.”
Roca is the other big innovation. “If you do
not want to have a visible sheet metal surface,
but want all the advantages in terms of low
weight, long-lasting protection and easy installation provided by a metal roof, then Roca is for
you,” continues Jan Tomberg. “This is a tile-like
profile with an upper surface of stone chips,
giving the newly installed roof a rustic, character
filled appearance from the outset.”
SRP Click and Roca are available in most
of Lindab’s markets.

Long-time partner supplies Romania’s biggest furniture chain
Sixth Lindab delivery from A.T.A.
Romania is one of the markets that was
heavily affected by the financial crisis in 2009
and 2010, something that has left its mark in
Lindab’s operations there. But even in hard
times, there is room for growth, as shown by
the Romanian furniture producer Lemet, with a
chain of more than 150 furniture stores across
Romania called Lem’s. “In 2009 and 2010, they
constructed two brand new stores with the
Lindab Builder A.T.A. Group as the supplier,”
explains Angel Itoafa, District Manager Lindab
Buildings Romania, “and the most recent is the
sixth Lindab Building delivery to Lemet so far.”
“We are very pleased, both with the Lindab
Buildings product system itself and with the
service, quality and delivery accuracy we receive from A.T.A. Group,” says Alexandru Rizea,
CEO and owner of Lemet. “Having A.T.A. and
Lindab provide us with a turnkey solution saves
us time and money, and the fact that we have
now completed the sixth store in the form of a
Lindab Building delivery speaks volumes about
our appreciation of their solutions.”
A.T.A. Group has worked as an Lindab
Builder since 1996 and has delivered 33 buildings totalling more than 140,000 m2. “We have
a long and well developed relationship that began as an Astron Builder and is now successfully continuing as a Lindab Builder,” says Costica Vidrascu, Managing Director and owner of
A.T.A. Group. “Because Lindab Buildings base
their operations on 40 years’ experience within
steel construction, and can boast of having built
no less than 40 million square metres, this plays
an important role when selling and presenting
our steel building solutions under the Lindab
brand!”
A.T.A. has delivered 20,000 m2 so far
to Lemet, with the latest delivery measuring
2,750 m2. “As previously, our ability to deliver a
complete turnkey solution was clearly important
for this project,” continues Costica Vidrascu.
“The support from Lindab plays a key role here,
as does access to IT tools such as Lindab
Cyprion. This enables us to quickly present a
complete solution and detailed cost breakdown
for the customer. After Lemet had approved the
solution, the delivery and construction of steel
frames, roofs and facades were all completed
in eight weeks. Being able to offer this speed,
combined with a highly recognised steel building system, clearly offers us important competitive advantages. This is always of paramount
importance, particularly in light of the recession that we just emerged from. Our close and
productive partnership with Lindab is therefore
something we value highly.”
CEO and owner Alexandru Rizea in one
of Lemet’s show rooms. Since 2004
Lindab Buildings and A.T.A. have built
over 20,000 m2 of production facilities.

400 Astron Builders, the retailers and distributers
that market Lindab’s steel buildings system throughout Europe, the CEE and Russia, received some
good news recently. Lindab has chosen to combine
all operations within the business area Building Systems under a single brand – Lindab. This also means
a new name – Lindab Builders – for these significant
and important partners, who together with Lindab
helped to consolidate and gradually strengthen the
position of steel buildings within the construction
sector.

Andreas Johansson, SEML and Thomas Ekberg, Cellplast Direkt at the apartments in Oxie, whose
1,200 m2 sandwich construction roofs, comprising cellplast and sheet steel, were fitted in five days.
Innovative roof structure in steel
Plustak, a brand new concept for roof structures in residential construction, is the result of
a degree project at the University of Halmstad.
“Prefab elements are becoming more and
more common when it comes to wall
panels for the construction of housing, and we wanted to find a smart
solution for the roof as well,” explains
Andreas Johansson at the company SEML, which is where the idea
behind the thesis arose. “Through new
technologies, construction can be significantly
streamlined and because Plustak is based on a
sandwich construction of foam and folded sheet
steel, this gives a light very well insulated roof
part that is ideally suited for low-energy or plus
energy houses.”
“There are several advantages with Plustak,”
says Thomas Ekberg at Cellplast Direkt, who
work with prefabricated building elements and
market Plustak. “It quickly gives a watertight ceil-
ing and through being self-supporting eliminates
roof trusses. Every roof part is supplied complete
with a double-folded standing seam roof and
gutters, meaning that laths, cardboard, insulation and the processes associated
with these are removed.” Roof foot
components and Rainline roof drainage have been supplied by Lindab to
Nya Plåt in Halmstad, which delivered
the finished roof foot cassettes to SEML.
However the standing seam roofing and
under panels were supplied by Lindab directly to
SEML who then finished the roof parts.
Cellplast Direkt has recently delivered Plustak to an apartment project in Oxie, Sweden,
consisting of three buildings with a roof area of
1,200 m2. The roof parts are lifted using a mobile
crane and vacuum, and are easily connected together using their intricate connection solution.
“Our choice of Lindab as supplier and partner was based heavily on the security that such
a strong brand represents,” says Andreas Johansson and Thomas Ekberg. “We have really
put our faith in their technical competence and
expertise in industrial construction. Everything
from the product quality, logistics and technical
support, directly from Lindab’s development department, has worked extremely well.”
The developer Skandinavisk Fastighetsfond
is also very pleased with the roof solution that
was delivered. “Fast installation, a nice looking
roof and fire-protection mounted tightly against
the roof has made it a really good solution,” says
Fredrik Bergkvist of Sweco Management who
was responsible for construction management.
“The solution also provides good insulation.”
Positive experiences – continued deliveries
Lindab Croatia signed one of its largest orders to date at the start of the
year. “It concerns the continuing expansion of Plodine’s network of supermarkets here in Croatia,” says Mario Koic´ at Izokom, one of Lindab’s long-time
partners in the country and the general contractor for the rebuilding and new
construction that Plodine has been implementing since 2007, as reported in an
earlier edition of Lindab Direct.
Having so far delivered materials to 24 Plodine-supermarkets in Croatia,
Lindab has recently received orders for materials for 14 more during 2011.
“Lindab’s product quality and technical support were a contributing factor behind us receiving this extensive and prestigious contract,” continues
´ “So far, we have built and delivered 24 stores, to which Lindab
Mario Koic.
has delivered packages that include Coverline profiled sheeting, Construline
lightweight construction profiles, sandwich panels etc. The positive experiences we have from our collaboration with Lindab, their flexibility regarding
each project solution and the ability to deliver on time made Lindab the natural
choice for the continued expansion. Their solutions also give us all the speed
we could wish for with regard to the actual installation.”
