Watercolor Paintings by Jane Katz
A May solo exhibit of original paintings,
including much new work, in our Bishops
Hall. Jane’s work reflects her interest in
ancient cities with winding streets. Lately
she’s been moving toward semi-abstract
and abstract landscapes. (Several designs

Book Shop.)

wide variety of artists! Come and see who

Weekly Thoughts & Highlights
Cultural Art of a Beloved Community
On May 23rd Bishop Curry will be at the Cathedral to celebrate
and share his thoughts of a beloved community. We are planning to
put culturally-related art works on the wall in the Fireplace Room.
Please consider sharing art works that you own or have created that
reflect your culture or any culture. We are thinking of representing
all cultures. Drop works off at the reception desk or the Book Shop
and be sure to include your name and contact number for return of
your art.
Cathedral Book Shop: On Being an Episcopalian
Two new arrivals in the Book Shop offer two very different
approaches to looking at our faith, and each serves up a real feast for
thought and exploration. Jesus Was an Episcopalian (and You Can
Be One Too), by Chris Yaw, an American priest and Emmy Awardwinning journalist, is billed as a newcomer’s guide, but has much
for old-timers as well. It describes who we are as Episcopalians, and
who we are becoming. Light-hearted in tone, it’s filled with historical
background and interesting detail, but focuses primarily on the
mission and witness of the church today.
Search Update
Much has happened with our search for the next Dean of Saint
Mark’s since I last reported to you. After Skype interviews, reviews
of responses to essay questions, discerning applicants resumes,
discussions with Bishop Prior, checking the applicants “Facebook
pages”, talking with people that know the candidates an much prayer,
the search committee has narrowed our search to two finalists.
The two finalists have been invited to the Twin Cities for several days
of meetings, prayer, exploration, getting better acquainted and for
interviews. This is a time when it is important for us to remember that
the finalists are looking at us as much as we are looking at them. We
know that this process is not interviewing for a job, but discerning is
God calling this person to us and for the finalist to be discerning is
God calling me to this ministry in this place.
These final weeks are exciting and can also create anxiety particularly
for staff and the shared ministry team. The shared ministry team is
unique in the wider Church and many eyes are on Saint Mark’s. We
have made is clear with candidates that this unique ministry is an
integral part of Saint Mark’s. The same is true of our other staff and
program folks. This will likely be my last communication with you.
