Our scene opens in Lake
Wapello , where a lot of people
fish for Crappie and swim in
Boy Scout Cove. Dr. John a
veterinarian who treats all
animals was called to the
shore of the lake to administer
a shot to Mighty Mo, a thourbred brown nose boxer. The
doc ruled that it looked as
though he had contracted a
nasty parasite from the lake
bottom that was stirred up by
the burst of warm June weather. The doc did not want him to
spread it to people. Sarge,
Mighty Mo’s adopted dog
brother ,said “ His bark was
worse than his bite.” The
grandson of Dr, John, a ten
year old boy scout yelled
“Come on guys lets go jump of
the dock before the Coast

Guard comes and closes the
lake. We can go swimming
with Sarge and Mighty Mo”.
Sarge was ahead of the boy
scout troop wadding in the
shallow end of the lake where
they hoped the parasite did
not live. Sarge looked to be
about 150 to 160 pounds
standing six feet at least on
his hind legs when the boys
arrived. Quite a fearful sight!
Sally a beautiful Golden Retreiver, “a real looker” Dr.
John said was barking a horrible shrill danger bark trying
warn the group of the Monster
approaching but none of the
group understood her.

This exercise allows the resident to let their imaginations
run wild allowing a fun new
free style of creativity to
emerge. A photo was reproduced from a “Life” book of

brings many valuable assets to
the position such as humor ,
determination and a desire to
serve the residents needs

Oh winter is gone
Here comes spring
Lovely flowers
It can bring.
Roses red , Lillies white
Yellow crocus oh so bright.
Robins nesting in the trees
Tulips nodding with busy bees
Raindrops glisten in the
grass,
Children laughing as they
pass,
Lift your faces as you sing
Oh for the joy of the spring!

In conjunction with the YMCA of Festus
we have recently begun a pilot program that allows residents from Festus
Manor with staff chaperones to attend
the Y weekly. Utilizing the pool for water fitness and the weight room for
cycling , we are going beyond our
doors by improving the quality of
life of those resident who want to
attend a different recreational program. With permission from their doctors, each resident has an opportunity to strengthen their weekly routine
with simple exercises in an warm
friendly gym atmosphere. We have
also welcomed a social service intern
to our department. Adam Dolan will be
studying with us for several more
weeks to complete his hands on internship . Expanding the social services here at Festus Manor is a ongoing process with the welfare of the
resident always at the center of our
s e r v i c e s
motivation. Any questions please contact us .
