The Stranda municipality and the Geirangerfjord have
developed into a must-see tourist destination. Many
will find the area to be one continuous attraction, where
magnificent sights await around the next turn or headland. The alpine centre at Strandafjellet, which recently
invested in two new chairlifts, offers visitors a

spectacular view of the mountains and the fjord. A visit
to Stranda can be combined with trips to Geiranger
and Hellesylt. It is also possible to combine these stops
with visits to Ålesund or Nordfjord.
Stranda Port Authority works continually to qualityassure our services to the highest standard, to

ANCHOR/TENDER PORT
Hellesylt has long traditions as a cruise destination,
and is well known as the starting or ending point of the
classic overland excursions. Hellesylt is the gateway to
the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It will be possible to berth at the pier at Hellesylt for half
a day, and then continue to Geiranger for a further halfday. This will allow us to provide a better offering on the
fjord and an even better offering and logistics onshore.
As our offer includes three ports and the most famous
brand name in Norway, the Geirangerfjord, this offering
can scarcely be better.
A well-known and well-functioning tender port with 3–4
anchor positions depending on the size of ship. There
are plans for new shore-going arrangements. Geiranger
is rated the best cared for Unesco World Heritage Site by
National Geographic Traveller. With reference to “forskrift
FOR 2004-12-07, nr 1634 § 3”, Kystverket has
established the following guidelines for assigning anchor
positions: Ships anchoring south of a line between
Lausneset bollard and Homlung:
• When 2 ships anchored at the same time, total ship
length not to exeed 600m
• When 3 ships anchored at the same time, total ship
length not to exeed 500m
Days with more than 550 m total ship length, south of
a line between Lausneset and Homlung, a pilot shall be
present and in charge of directing ships to the correct
anchoring position. Days with 4 ships at the same time,
a pilot shall always be present and in charge of directing
ships to the correct anchoring position. Days with 3 ships
at the same time, directions of anchor positions by pilot
will be decided on the spot.
