ello Brothers and Co-workers,
We had a great September and October. Starting off
with the Labor Day Barbecue. What a great turnout
we had.. We started off with breakfast burritos in
the morning by Priscilla Owens. They were awesome as usual.
The guys flipping burgers and hot dogs at 10 a.m. sold
out. Thanks to Joe Green and Steve Festin for helping.
Then the evening brought our Famous Spit Barbecue.
Everyone must have been hungry as we sold out as well.
Thanks to Al Kanner and Steve Bitters for helping me.
While we were all feasting
out, a six-piece band from the San
Diego VFW provided great music
for us. They did a great job.
To add to all of that the Rod
Riders had their annual car show,
which also had a great turnout.
Thank you to them for a great
show. It was a busy day with
everyone having a super time. Once
again thanks for everyone for the
much needed help. This is what
makes our lodge so successful.
Monte Carlo Night turned out
great. We had several people trying
to make their fortunes. Thank you
to all of you for showing up and to
all of you working the tables. We
also had a great turnout from La
Habra Moose Lodge brothers who
came up to join Big Bear for some
fun party time with fish and chips
being served. We were entertained
with great music by the Sedillo
Brothers Band.
We had our Legion Celebration at our lodge on Oct. 27,
with the Fellowship Dinner that evening honoring the new
Fellows. Congratulation to our lodge’s newest Fellow, Rick
Weston. Great Job.
It is now much easier to sign up new Moose Legion
members. After they have been a Moose member for six
months or signed up a new member after they are a new
member they are eligible to become a Moose Legionnaire. So
Moose Legionnaires, get out and sign up some new Moose
Legion members. Sign up two and get free Moose Legion dues
for the next year.
Check the calendar in this newsletter for the meals in
November and December. We have some great meals coming
up.
Big Bear Moose Lodge Newsletter
There will be our Annual Thanksgiving and Christmas
dinners that are free to Moose members and Fawnskin
residents. They are “O SO GOOD.”
On Nov. 24, Kathy and Emily will be doing grilled cheese
Sandwiches with turkey barley soup. That’s always good on
cold winter days.
Emily will be doing her fabulous chicken fried steak on
Dec. 8.
Prime rib dinner with entertainment will be served Dec.
15.
We are planning to have Christmas caroling Dec. 16.
That’s a Sunday, starting at 5 p.m. This is always a fun event.
Bring a dish to share after caroling. Weather permitting.
And once again on Saturday, Nov. 10, we are honoring the
Wounded Warriors with an appreciation night and dinner.
This is a great cause so let’s all show up and help them enjoy a
great time. They have done so much for us and our country.
This is a great time to show how
much we appreciate them. See our
flier in newsletter for more
information.
Finally, I would like to thank all of the
many members who volunteered for
the Friday Steak Nights and Saturday
night meals, plus the burgers and dogs
on event days. What an awesome job
by all of you plus super good meals.
I am sending out fliers weekly
reminding you of coming events if I
have your e-mail.
Starting in January the newsletter will
be sent to you in color if I have your email. You will not be getting a paper
one if I have your e-mail address. Only
members without an-mail address will
be getting a paper newsletter. This
will save the lodge a lot of money.
If you are not getting the fliers, please
send me your e-mail and I will put you
on the list. My e-mail address is
[email protected].
Once again if you have any ideas for events or parties or
anything else, please let me know. And don’t forget our
meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.
Thanks again for supporting our/your Moose Lodge.
While I am thanking people I would like to thank our
bartenders for the great job they do serving our members; also
Sharen and Kevin for keeping our social quarters so clean.
If I forgot anyone or anything, please let me know. You
are all important to the lodge. If you would like me to make
up a flier for a special event that you want to hold at the
Moose Lodge—birthday, anniversary, etc., please let me know
and I will create one for you and send it out.
I hope you are enjoying the flyers.
Thanks!
Your Brother and Friend
Governor, Wayne Parker

ello my friends and co-workers,
Here we are into the holiday season already. Our
Halloween costume party was the best. Such
costumes…oh my. Seriously, well done by all.
This year, the women are putting on our first annual
“Christmas Mooseical” on Dec. 15. It is a variety show with
songs, dances, music and magic. The price is only $30,which
will include a prime rib dinner.
Tickets go on sale Nov. 15 at the lodge. Look for the signup sheet, or ask the bartender. There will be only one show…
so sign up as soon as the sheet comes out because seating is
limited.
Cheryl Carter was awarded her Red Stole on Sept. 23.
This is the highest degree in lodges women can earn. It takes
hard work and commitment to earn this. Congratulations
Cheryl.
Congrats also to Loni Emig for her great job bike riding
100 miles for MS, and for all the funds she raised for that
worthy cause. Go Loni!
As you know, we support the children at Mooseheart in
Illinois. One such child, a recent high school graduate of
Mooseheart, spoke at the CA/NV convention in September.
James and his siblings were sent there due to problems
within the family. While there, James excelled in every way.
He learned to play a musical instrument and was inducted into
the National Honor Society. He now attends college in
California. James is just one example of where our hearts and
dollars go to support the kids who need us.
We have been busy these past two months with
Christmas in October, building our own pizza and a
wonderful Chinese dinner.
Thanks to Cheryl, Debbie, Sharen, Emily, Sylvia , Kathy,
Priscilla, Loni, Pam, Viv, Joscelyn, Mary and anyone I missed,
for all the work you do. AND…a great party here with the La
Habra Lodge. Wow!
Coming up, look forward to all the wonderful Saturday
night dinners that are listed on the calendar, Thanksgiving
dinner, Christmas caroling, the Mooseical, and of course New
Year’s Eve!

B
rother Moose Legionnaires,
Well the last two months have been full of activities
and events; i.e. Monte Carlo night, poker runs, Legion
dinners, etc. All events were highly successful and I
want thank everyone who participated.
As I mentioned in the last newsletter, the qualifications
for a Lodge member to become a Moose Legionnaire have been
revised, making it easier to join. The new requirements are
that a member must be in good standing in the Lodge for a
minimum period of six months or must have sponsored at
least one new LOOM member, which ever comes first. So
encourage Lodge members to join with us in the Moose Legion
and advance to the higher degree.
I am sad to report that our long standing Yucca Moose
Legion #167 Secretary, Ed Stroup, passed away in September.
Ed was a Pilgrim and had devoted many years of service to the
Moose. He will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial
service for him will be held at the Fontana Moose Lodge on
Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. All Moose Legionnaires are invited to attend.
See me, Wayne or Dennis for details.
To fill the void created by Ed’s passing, a special Yucca
Moose legion #167 board meeting was convened to elect a new
Secretary. I am pleased to announce that our own Wayne
Parker was elected as the new Secretary.
Congratulations to our newest Fellow, Rick Weston. We
celebrated his advancement at the annual Fellowship dinner
hosted by our Lodge and a good time was had by all.
Don’t forget, our next Lodge Moose Legion Committee
meeting will be Nov. 3, at 9 a.m. All Moose Legionnaires are
encouraged to attend.
Al Kanner
Chairman
Congratulations, Rick, on your well-deserved
Fellowship Degree
