Won’t You Be My Valentine?

It was immediately apparent that Monty and Kimberly
were extremely nervous and definitely not used to or
familiar with human affection. Carly, on the other hand,
relished in having all of the attention and it was obvious
that she absolutely adored people, including children.
Once Carly, Monty, and Kimberly were well enough to
leave Newton Animal Hospital, they were moved to a
temporary foster home with a dear friend of the FDRF.

desperate plea from a kind woman in Newark, who was
trying to save a stray dog she had seen roaming the
streets in a not-so-kind neighborhood. One dog in need
soon became three, when a man informed her that he
had the mother and brother of the stray dog chained up
in his backyard. The FernDog Rescue Foundation could
not refuse the plea for help, and soon we had Mama
Carly and her pups, Monty and Kimberly, at the Newton
Animal Hospital for urgent medical care. Despite Carly
and Kimberly both having anemia and some superficial
wounds, the dogs were in surprisingly good health.

events with the FDRF, and is always a popular girl there
due to her sweet expression and calm demeanor. Not a
day goes by where Carly does not have special time
with her human friends, and this lovely lady’s life has
really turned around over the past year. You can see it
on her face, and you can see it in her gait. But we feel
pets, as she
wants to be your
“one and only.”
She would love a
home where she
can be your
snuggle
companion, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, such
as taking walks outside, and going for rides in the car
with her family. If you think you’re the right match to
invite this love muffin home, apply to foster or adopt
Carly. With so much love to give, all you need is Carly.

to save lives and execute our mission, but we

Dog Rescue, Redefined
Since January 2013, the FernDog Rescue Foundation has been

rescuing dogs and adopting them to their forever homes. Our
mission is a simple one: We strive to place our dogs in truly

“forever” homes, with an emphasis on personality, lifestyle
and compatibility. We believe the best way to do this is
through our foster program, which enables our dogs to be placed in low-stress homes
while they wait for their permanent families. We feel that it is this type of environment
that a dog is best able to prosper and thrive. Further, it allows our team to get to know
our dogs better, and to provide required and adequate training for any behavioral issues
that may exist, as well as treatment for any health issues.
Most of our dogs come from very sad situations: many were abandoned, owner
surrendered, or found wandering in the streets of our inner cities. We also rescue dogs
from high-kill shelters in the deep South. Every dog is unique, and every situation they
come from has helped to shape that particular dog’s personality. We have all heard it too
often. “I adopted a shelter dog and he is a nightmare.” “I adopted a shelter dog and she
is too jumpy for my small children.” These dogs become homeless once again, and at no
fault of their own. These types of situations can be avoided with a successful foster
program; a better foster program.
