Making Your Page Standout!
Adding some dimension to your pages can
add a whole new look. Y ou can pur chase dimensional stickers and embellishments or
you can create your own.
To make a sticker/embellishment pop of f a
page you will need: chipboar d or card stock,
foam glue dots, and the sticker/embellishment. First you need to make the sticker
ridged by sticking it to card stock or chipboard. Choose whatever color you like to use
as your backing. Now that you have a stif fened sticker, you can place your foam glue
dot on the back and then place it on your
page. Now you have an embellishment that
stands up off the page and gives you a dimensional look.
*Just be car eful not to put two dimensional
items in the same spot on facing pages. Itcan
cause pr oblems when closing your scrapbook.
More Dimensional Ideas
• My Mother-in-law is making a camping
scrapbook. She made little animals to put on
the pages with her Cricut. Rather than using
the little eyes cut out by the machine she
used little googley eyes. It is cute and adds
dimension to the page.
• I have found that it is ver y har d to fi nd
bubble stickers. If you need bubbles for say
“Baby’s First Bath” or “Fido’s Summer Suds”
try this: cut out circles from blue paper, then
cut out cir cles fr om wax paper that ar e the
same size. When you glue the wax paper to
the blue paper it gives it a bubble look. Just
make sure you use a clear glue!

Oil for deep-fat frying
Confectioners’ sugar
In a lar ge bowl, beat eggs; add sugar , sour cr eam,
butter, and vanilla. Combine fl our, baking soda, salt,
and nutmeg, add to sour cr eam mixture alter nately
with buttermilk. Turn onto a lightly fl oured surface;
roll to 1/4” thickness. Cut with a 2 1/2” doughnut
cutter. In an electric skillet or deep-fat fr yer, heat oil
to 3750. Fry doughnuts, a few at a time, until golden,
about 2 minutes; tur n once with a slotted spoon.
Drain on paper towels. Dust with confectioners’ sugar. Yield: about 6 dozen

Loretta called Thursday. I know her from the Camera Club. I also know that she raises dogs, does great
photography, and is very adept with the computer.
She had been at a dog show and had some 8x10
prints for sale. Someone gave her a hard time about
her prices and she called me for my opinion. She did
admit that she had sold several prints, so all was not
a total loss.
If you’re pricing your work, and this goes for any type
of artwork, several factors enter into consideration. She
has a lot of good equipment, a very nice Nikon SLR,
and good lenses. She just got a new high power flash
and we also ordered a teleconvertor for her the other
day. She has a photography background that most
people don’t have or won’t invest that much money
into. Translated, good tools do good work, and that’s
what you need if you want to sell your work.
Second is time. Most people forget this, and when
they go to work, they get paid by the hour. That is the
way it should be, so if she goes to a dog show, that is
time spent. If she puts the pictures in a computer, as
she did, that is more time put into this project. Don’t
forget the time spent printing or taking the card to be
printed.
How much was she asking? In this case an 8x10
in a mat or salon mount was priced at $25. Not a bad
price at all for an original work of art, I don’t think.
All of this is not factoring in talent. I have one of
her pictures of a rust colored dog. It is in front of a
textured background and when it was taken, a girl was
holding the dog. So Loretta had to remove the girl’s
hand, replace that with a paw from the dog, resize it,
and reposition it in the frame. A great shot. Could you
do it?
Today, I hate to say it, but photography has become
snap shots. Little or no time is spent posing, finding
props, checking the background, and so on. Of course
few, if any, pictures are printed out so a good 8x10 is
rare.
So back to Loretta. I think, as we talked, your
prices are more than reasonable. All of this goes for
wedding pictures, too. Remember the time factor, but
most of all remember you need the equipment to do
the job right.
In my opionion photography is the most overlooked
art form there is. How often could you buy an original
print, meet the artist, and even get it signed for the
prices they ask, when the pictures are not reproductions? Most have an interesting story behind them
