Last February, we announced our groundbreaking Wheels for the World
initiative: Hope Overflowing 100,000 by 2020. We are pleased to
announce that we are on track to reach our 2016 goal of 14,500 wheelchairs. Yes, The Lord has helped us!
That is why we have every reason to rejoice and move out courageously,
knowing He will help us as we work to deliver 100,000 wheelchairs by
the year 2020! This is a huge goal, a God-sized vision!
We have put our faith in the Lord that together, we’ll provide 14,500
wheelchairs to people with disabilities this year. With each wheelchair,
we’ll share the Gospel message that turns hopelessness to hope overflowing. But the need is great. There are thousands of little children
and adults in developing countries that need a wheelchair and the
Gospel message of Jesus Christ that brings hope to those in despair.

the HEART
I
’ve always had a heart for
disabled children, especially
when they live in developing
countries. When I see a little boy
crawling and dragging his legs
behind him through the mud, it
hurts. I have to help! I first saw
the need in 1989 when Ken and I
traveled to the Philippines with
150 wheelchairs to give to people
with disabilities.
But I was totally unprepared
when families began arriving. I
witnessed parents carrying their
disabled little ones on their backs.
We simply did not have enough childsized wheelchairs to serve them. I
prayed that one day we would find a
way to get more pediatric chairs to
needy children with disabilities!
Now, Joni and Friends is taking
thousands of high-quality and
durable pediatric wheelchairs on
all our Wheels for the World trips.
When a boy or girl with a disability
is “lifted from the ash heap” and
seated on a “throne of honor,” it
wins the hearts of everyone. The
entire village is delighted when a
child is helped and served!

In a developing nation, how does a little child with a disability come to know Jesus? How does he find
hope in isolation and poverty? It happens when you send a wheelchair and a Bible. These life-changing
gifts open the door to share the love and message of Jesus Christ.

Meet 13-year-old Luis, whose father brought him to a recent outreach in Guatemala.
THE PERFECT WHEELCHAIR Your faithfulness
gave Luis a beautiful, brand new, Regency pediatric
wheelchair, complete with all-terrain tires and heavyduty footrests. The frame, head rests, and food rests
can be adjusted and expanded as Luis grows.
A HOPEFUL FUTURE After his wheelchair is completed by our volunteer mechanic, Luis and his father
will be thoroughly trained to use it safely in their
community. Luis’s father told us, “This wheelchair
will allow my son to be off the ground. It will give him
dignity, and he can now go to school and learn.”

LIFE WITH DISABILITY In their Guatemalan community,
word about Joni and Friends Wheels for the World distributions
spreads quickly among families with a disabled child like 13-yearold Luis. Luis’s parents worry about their son and how to take care
of his needs. They don’t have enough money and without Wheels
for the World, owning a wheelchair would be an impossible dream.
