I
f you like the outdoors, enjoy playing in the water
on a hot summer day, love wildlife and beautiful,
untouched scenery, or want a fantastic workout,
you should consider learning to canoe or kayak.
Whether you want a mellow paddle on a calm
lake or lazy stream or an adrenaline-drenched
charge down a raging river, your training starts
here! American Red Cross, Greater Cleveland
Chapter is working with the area’s largest paddling club to offer beginning kayak and canoe
instruction.
If you are not sure if this sport is for you, these
classes are a great way to find out without having
to buy any expensive equipment. Our classes provide everything you need to decide if paddling is
right for you! All you have to bring is a bathing
suit, towel and a desire to try something new.
Our volunteer Red Cross Certified Instructors
are all local paddlers who know the sport and
the places to paddle that are appropriate for
your skill level. Our classes are small and focused
on how to teach the basics in a fun and safe
environment. Training classes are great, but once
you master the basics you’ll want experienced,
fun people to help you make sure that you grow
within your skills and stay safe. Founded in the
late 1960’s and over 300 members strong, Keel
Hauler Canoe Club is one of the country’s most
highly-respected paddlesport communities. The
club meets monthly and offers news, instruction,
social events, opportunities to get involved in
helping our sport grow, and a chance make new
friends who share your passion for paddling!
Keel Haulers also offer a full calendar of
Club-organized trips for all skill levels from firsttimers to experts. You’ll find day trips to local
rivers and lakes, weeks-long adventures around
the country (and the world!), and everything inbetween on the Club’s Trip Calendar. Each trip is
scored by the Keel Hauler Self-Rating System,
which makes it easy decide what trips match
your skills and interests. Trip Organizers will
answer all your questions, especially the most
important one: “Is this trip right for me?” So
what are you waiting for? Begin your paddling
adventure with American Red Cross instruction
and continue your adventures with the Keel
Haulers!

We’d love to See You on the Water!
