Dora Juárez Kiczkovsky
Cantos para una Diáspora
Sephardic Music
Produced by John Zorn for his New York label Tzadik, CANTOS PARA UNA DIÁSPORA is the first
soloist recording by this Mexican Jewish singer.
With Sephardic songs of love, death, war, and migration, Dora Juárez Kiczkovsky, member of the
eclectic and iconoclast vocal trio Muna Zul, now immerses herself in her origins with an
uninhibited, fresh, and at the same time profound spirit, to
bring about an exquisite mix between ancestral and
contemporary.
This new and original look into Sephardic traditional songs, full
of depth, sensitivity, and a somewhat healthy irreverence
makes of this recording an intimate, touching piece.
“Dora Juárez steps out on her own to create a fascinating musical journey exploring her own
jewish identity. Tracing her lineage from her parents roots this is an intensely personal and
passionate jewishh story told through traditional sepharadic songs...”

Performance Summary
CANTOS PARA UNA DIÁSPORA is an intimate journey through the Sephardic musical universe.
Voice, guitar, antique percussion instruments, electro acoustic processes, and throat singing
come together to revisit medieval Jewish-Spanish songs in Ladino and Castilian, with a fresh
look that preserves and emphasizes the depths of these songs, always touching and evocative.
The distinctive timbre and profound eloquence of this extraordinary singer, are here brought
together with the superb musical quality of guitarist Fernando Vigueras, who is a fundamental
figure in the avant garde and free improvisation music scene in Mexico, and Francisco Bringas,
the renowned percussionist, throat singer and multi-instrumentalist, who is a referent in the
