Ramnafloke`s journey is found in “Landnamabok”, a written
historical record from Iceland, which is even older than the
Norse record “Snorre”. The cairn that Floke built before he
left, was later given the name Ryvarden (Rycairn), and is
probably the oldest cairn along the coast. With the help from
the ravens, Floke found the land and named it Iceland.

K A RT :
In the year 869 Floke Vilgerdson left the Smørsund farm in
Sveio to travel west to find Snowland, or “Gardarsholm” to use
another name. Floke, later called Ramnafloke (Ravenfloke),
waited ashore in Ryvarden for the right sailing condition.
He held a ceremony and sacrificed to the gods to give three
ravens power to guide his vessel. He thereafter built a cairn
to mark the spot on Ryvarden, before they sailed west.

Ryvarden
Kulturfyr
Ryvarden was first illuminated in 1849, and the lighthouse
was fully automated in 1984. Since then no one has lived
there
permanently,
but it has become a
popular place to visit
for many people. In
1992 Gallery Ryvarden
was established, and it
became a success with
30 000-35000 visitors
each year.
If more chapters had to
be written about Ryvarden, Vamp would get a central place.
This famous group from Haugesund have recorded several
of their records here. And there is no place more suitable to
listen to their n`-1 hit “Tir n`a noir”…..than just out here.

Welcome
to magnificent nature
and cultural experiences.

Ryvarden Kulturfyr
To visit Ryvarden without feeling that the
force of nature will influence your body and
soul is almost impossible. The Ryvarden
headland stretches into the sea, as if to carry
you as far as possible towards the great experience between the sea and sky. Whether
an autumn storm blows, so you have to lean
yourself into the wind, or the ocean is totally
calm, these expressions make a deep impression and stay with you forever.
The exercise walk (around 30 min.) gives you
a nature thrill. To visit the art exhibition in
the gallery and enjoy some light food served
in the café right after is another option. You
can also adventure the pleasure of living in
these surroundings, watching the skyline
from a panoramic viewpoint. Ryvarden will
in many ways give you a magnificent experience.
Gallery and Gallery-shop
In the gallery there are high quality art exhibitions. The exhibition
is changed on the first Sunday of
every month. In the shop you can
buy quality art and crafts for yourself or for gifts.
Accommodation
In the quarter of the lighthouse keeper we can offer accommodation for 8-10 people. The house was renovated to a
high standard in 2007. Here you can go back in time, with
the wind howling around the lighthouse, and driving rain
on the windows or else sun from a clear sky and a completely still ocean. This is medicine for the body and soul.
Cafè
In the café you can enjoy coffee, tea
and several local delicacies. Take
your time by the table inside and
create some energy for the walk
back.
Location for parties,
seminars and conferences
Are you going to arrange a seminar, a meeting, a course or
teambuilding? What about having this magnificent scenery
as an added benefit? While sitting in your meeting you can
enjoy the panoramic view in all directions. Although you
are inside, you have the feeling of being close to nature. We
believe that this will give those staying at Ryvarden an extra
dimension. In connection with seminars and conferences it
is of course possible to go by car or minibus, and to park by
the lighthouse.
For small groups we can also recommend our overnight facilities. Waking up at Ryvarden can bring you great inspiration for good discussions and decisions. In addition to our
main meeting room we have smaller seminar rooms which
can be used. We can also offer catering for up to 50 people.
