SUSCOL INTER-TRIBAL COUNCIL
STAYING ON THE
PATH…
charlie toledo
So busy summer with Big Times and Pow-wows EVERY weekend! Hope you and your family are
staying true to yourselves and celebrating life with all the opportunity for ceremony and traditional
gatherings. Check out this summer’s calendar and please put Oct 6th-7th for Suscol Intertribal 14th
Annual Pow-wow! Also put Art Auction on Nov 10th on your agenda. There is so much pride to see
all the young people at the Big Times sharing and learning the traditional dances.
I had the opportunity to travel to Ecuador in May. Met many people from my dreams. The Achur
tribes from rain forest in the Amazon are calling us to awaken to the earth changes and know that
we co-create our lives with our thoughts. It is always affirming to know the dream realm is real
when it all unfolds in awake times. The veil between the worlds continues to get thinner making it
more important to keep thoughts focused on all we want in the wakening world. Thanks to Jacqueline Parsons for inviting me to travel with her to meet her friends all artists, visionaries and medicine people. A true link has been made between lodges here in Napa Valley and Ecuador.
“Suskol House” still needs your prayers and support! Ethan Castro, Jerry Hale and George Sommersall are working hard to develop details for building permits and develop a sound work plan.
Please donations are always welcome and needed! Now as much as ever, physical help, donations
of building materials etc. It is so beautiful on the property all the trees and wild flowers are flourishing. Bear scat in the arbor the day after bear dances at Sherwood Rancheria, all signs of blessings
on this dream.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
May you walk in beauty and peace until our paths
MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of Suscol Inter-Tribal Council is to develop a Native American Cultural Center in Chiles-Pope
Valley, located in the Northeastern corner of Napa County, CA. The Cultural Center will be a sustainable,
environmentally-friendly, open space whose living sculpture building will be used for educational outreach as we as preserving and protecting Native American Sacred sites and traditions. Suscol Council is
dedicated to preserving human rights for indigenous people by linking with other Non Governmental Organizations around the world.
My mission is to change the way we dance during intertribal. I believe we are here for the people and we
should dance for the people.
This being my second year dancing since I was young
I’ve seen the dancers walk around the circle gabbing
with each other. Who wants to see people walk
around? I don't, do that outside the circle when people are not watching you dance.
I dance hard all the time because I feel its disrespectful
not too in the sacred circle. The new and old visitors
to the circle deserve the best in us every time.
I see excitement in the spectators when we are dancing
hard, memories last for ever and ever.
My wife and I are special Olympic coaches and volunteer on weekends when I’m not dancing. So kids and
special people are at the top of my list,
NOVEMBER 1OTH 2OO7
5:OO p.m—9:00 p.m
I see kids wanting to talk or reach out to dancers
but are afraid and respectful at the same time. I make
myself available to satisfy their curiosity and see the
awe-stuck of actually meeting a real Native American.
You never see me just sitting down, when I could be
meeting people who want to know about my tribe, regalia, dance style, and the powwow trail.

Corbin Harney, Western Shoshone Spiritual Leader Passes On –
Public Statement by Corbin’s Immediate Family
July 10, 2007 (Turtle Island). Corbin Harney Spiritual Leader of the Western Shoshone Nation crossed
over at 11:00 a.m. this morning in a house on a sacred mountain near Santa Rosa, CA (Turtle Island). He
had dedicated his life to fighting the nuclear testing and dumping.
Before he passed, he said to remember:
―We are one people. We cannot separate ourselves now.
There are many good things to be done for our people and for the world.
It is important to let things be good. And it is important to teach the younger generation so that things
are not lost.‖
True to form Corbin joked around several days ago that he was going to go at 11:00, and kept his
promise.
Corbin Harney is descended from generations of Newe (Shoshone) traditional healers and was always
grateful for the many extraordinary teachers who shared their knowledge in his lifetime. Corbin is
survived by his daughter Reynaulda Taylor; granddaughters Ann Taylor and Nada Leno; grandsons
Keith, Jon and Joel Leno and William Henry Taylor; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great
grandchildren; and his sister Rosie Blossom’s family and many cousins and other family members as
well as many, many friends around the world.
“We send our Sympathy, Love & Respect To the family of Corbin Harney”
