Alpha Sigma Lambda
March of Dimes and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. have been partners for more than twenty years.
They were honored at the 2013 Volunteer Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. In the last 5
years, along, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers have raised over $1 million to support the March of
Dimes. Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter has continuously stepped up to the plate and done its part by consistently donating $5000 minimum per year.
Every year for the past few years the brothers of Area 1 collaborate and make this a very enjoyable family
friendly event. A stepshow (before the Walk) and cookout complete with a DJ are some of the things for
everyone to enjoy. This year’s Walk will occur on Saturday, April 18, 2015 beginning at 9:00AM
(Registration Time: 8:00AM ). The location is White Rock Lake (N Buckner Blvd & E Northwest Hwy

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Greetings Brothers of A Phi A:
We’ve come this far by faith! Now
lets Finish the Fight. I am referring to
our daunting task of hosting the
Southwest Regional Convention. In a
little less than 4 weeks 700+ plus
brothers will convene in Dallas
(Addison), TX looking for an awesome
time in Alpha and we will not
disappoint! Lead by Bros. Bates and
Turner I know that ASL will show up
and show out. We’ve put together what
is gearing up to be the best Regional
Convention ever planned. Brothers, in
this endeavor like always the success is
squarely on our shoulders. We need
your time, talents, blood, sweat and your
undying love for the dear A Phi A.
In addition to the Southwest
Regional Convention we have some
book end events approaching that also
demand our participation. Yes, these
are busy, busy times in A Phi A and
Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter. In
regards to that brothers I leave you with
these Alpha Man defining lines from a
couple of poems near and dear to my
heart…”tired moments find me a
delightful treat” and “If you can fulfill
the unforgiving minute with sixty
seconds worth of distance run…”
‘06 good brothers!!
Bro. Jabari B. Jones
Signs of PTSD
Some of the most common symptoms of PTSD include recurring memories
or nightmares of an event(s), resulting in sleeplessness, loss of interest, feeling numb,
angry, and irritability. Still there are many other ways PTSD can impact your everyday life. Sometimes these symptoms don’t surface for months or years after the event
or returning from deployment. They may also come and go. If these problems won’t
go away or are getting worse—or you feel like they are disrupting your daily life—
you may have PTSD.
Treating PTSD
PTSD has been defined as reactions to trauma rooted in the body’s response to threat.
Such has been characterized as being successfully treated through Yoga, neurofeedback, theater, mindfulness meditation and “Eye movement desensitization and
reprocessing” EMDR. All these modalities may sound implausible, but when used
appropriately they have been found to be more useful in treating the trauma survivor
than psychiatric medications so says Dr. Kolk.
What to do if I think I have PTSD?
If you think you have PTSD, it doesn’t mean you just have to live with it. In recent

The term “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder” (PTSD) is often associated with military
veterans. War indeed, creates many traumatic experiences, but it is not the only
source of events that may cause people to shut down or blow up. Life threatening
illnesses, episodes of family violence or other events such as crashes in trains, planes,
and auto, can cause a dysfunctional reaction that may be largely out of one’s conscious awareness.
Congratulations & Kudos
We’d like to extend well wishes and
congratulatory praise to the following
brothers for excelling/venturing into
new territories in their respective fields,
in Alpha and life in general.

which will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina a new
acknowledgment will be introduced. That acknowledgement
will be known as the Active Service Awards. The purpose of
the Active Service Recognition is to recognize and honor the

Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and for their promotion of Manly Deeds,
Leadership, and Service to All through their extended active
involvement on the chapter level.

Dallas NPHC awards scholarships to two undergraduate members of an
active organization in the NPHC, the James T. Bailey Scholarship and

Reclamation is a key factor in
moving Alpha Forward. We encourage
you to join us as we work to Reclaim and
Retain our Brothers. Please help to
ensure that the fire for our “Dear A-PhiA” continues to burn bright in those who
diligently toil to “Hold High the Name”.
We must reignite the flame in the hearts
of our brothers who have become disenfranchised from the Fraternity. With this
in mind we implore each Brother within
Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter to invite
and bring a brother with you to an event
or a meeting.
There is a direct correlation between
our Membership Retention and living up
to the principles and ideals of
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Furthermore, each Brother must do a self
-examination and recognize that Alpha
Phi Alpha is like any other entity in your
life, if you put nothing into it, you will
get nothing out of it. Our organization
and the state that it is in is a direct
representation of the men in it. So
with that being said let’s reclaim our
brothers to the House of Alpha!
And many more!! So invite all the young
and young at heart that would like to
better themselves by pursue a degree in
higher education!
