New Friends and
Legacy Supporters,
We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to participate in
one of the most unique and inspirational charitable events.
Again this August, the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center
Luau & Longboard Invitational Surf for a Cure will bring
together some of the most respected men and women in
surfing history with artists, business professionals, health care
providers, scientists, local politicians and national celebrities.
More importantly, it will once again unite a caring community
in the fight against cancer.
The Longboard and Luau Invitational is internationally
renowned for attracting the largest participation of surf legends
and is one of the world’s most successful surfing fundraisers.
Now in its 19th year, the Luau & Longboard Invitational has
raised over $5.5 million in support of cancer research and
treatment. The generosity of the donors and accomplishments
of the researchers are truly remarkable and have contributed to
many innovative treatments and scientific advancements.
Community partners, companies, team sponsors, and individual contributors are needed to ensure the success of the
2012 Luau & Longboard Invitational. If you are new to the event,
we invite you to participate in the noble sport of the Hawaiian
kings. To our loyal supporters and volunteers, we thank you and
seek your on-going participation. Together, we can make cancer
history, one patient, one disease, one cure at a time.
We look forward to sharing August 19, 2012 with you.

The Luau
& Longboard
Invitational August 19, 2012
The day begins at 7 a.m. at the beach
below Scripps Pier with the Longboard
Invitational surfing tournament where the
emphasis is on participation and support
for the cause rather than an individual’s
surfing ability. Each sponsored team of five,
including an assigned surfing legend, vie
for traditional trophies.
The Luau festivities commence at noon
where more than 500 attendees are
entertained by traditional Polynesian
dancing and live music while enjoying
a fine tropical buffet. Guests may opt to
participate in opportunity drawings, a silent
auction, or test their bidding skills against
each other as “one of a kind” pieces of surf
inspired artwork, exceptional surfboards,
and vacation packages are put up for live
auction. This is always a crowd favorite!
