Message
Dear Fellow Colleagues, Families and Guests
A warm welcome to our Bougainvillea City of Ipoh and the Perak Silver
State with its own famous tourist spots and unique culinary delights.
We aim to introduce the best of Peranakan foods at both the Gala and
BBQ Dinners through a talk and distribution of books and literatures.
The Perak Medical Practitioners' Society would like to thank the
FPMPAM President, Dr Steven Chow, for giving us the honour of
hosting first the FPMPAM Annual General Meeeting in March 2014 and now this National
Doctors’ Day Celebrations over three days. Most of the credit will go to our FPMPAM
President for his tireless direction of organisation of events. A True President getting the
best out of his Generals in the State.
I trust this celebration brings Doctors from all over Malaysia and bring about unity,
cooperation and greater understanding among our own brethren. We have been
exploited all these years because of the disunity amongst us. We should look upon each
other as brothers and sisters and not as competitors or as enemies. Perak is forging a
new chapter by joining hands with MMA Perak State Branch and the Jabatan Kesihatan
Negeri Perak in promoting this National Doctors Day and I pray and hope that this
happens too at Federal level with the FPMPAM, the MMA, and other organisations all
becoming or acting as one for the betterment of Doctors in General and General
Practitioners in particular for we are the ones facing many major issues.
I thank all my Committee and Executive Secretary, Ms Wendy Wong, for the hard work
and the FPMPAM President for imparting his organisation skills to us. I hope everyone of
you will have a wonderful time in Ipoh and take part in all the activities arranged for you.
Happy Doctor’ Day.

Message
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
With the increasing commercialization of medicine that has seen doctors and patients increasingly side-lined by health corporations, the Federation of
Private Medical Practitioners’ Associations, Malaysia (FPMPAM) has decided to launch Doctors’ Day in Malaysia this year.
Thank you for being here today to share this inaugural event.
Today, doctors, their patients and the rakyat are faced with the onslaught of commercialised medicine. In such a scenario, the patient’s interest is not
prioritised. When things go wrong, doctors are blamed and the businessmen making the money go scot free. With all the trials and tribulations over the
years, the FPMPAM has decided that it is time to recognize and appreciate doctors for their dedication and care. To this end, the Federation has resolved that we shall have
Doctors’ Day, to be celebrated on 10th October every year.
Doctor’s Day has been celebrated in other places such as the United States, India and Europe for some time. The time has come for us to celebrate Doctors’ Day in Malaysia.
On this special day, doctors, patients and members of the public should take time off to reflect on their relationship with their doctors and look at how a combined doctor and
patient lobby can help shape the future of healthcare in Malaysia which places the patient’s interest first and foremost. We note your appreciation and contribution to
amalgamate our doctor-patient relationship.
To address the rising disconnection with patients resulting from the commercialization of medicine, the Federation have launched its Facebook which serves as a platform for
Malaysians to interact with doctors and be updated on issues pertaining to private healthcare. The doctors, patients and the rakyat are anxious and are asking. “What would
Malaysian Healthcare be like in the year 2020?” Please post all your searching questions on our FaceBook www.facebook.com/fpmpam. Browse also for latest information on
your health matters at our website www.fpmpam.org
The Federation would specially like to thank the Perak Medical Practitioners’ Society (PMPS), the Malaysian Medical Association (Perak Branch), the Perak State Health and
Medical Department and all our generous supporters and sponsors for their support for this weekend of activities for doctors, their families, public and guests.
A big THANK YOU to Dr Kamalanathan A G Raju, President of PMPS and chairman of the organising committee Drs’ Day 2014, together with his team for all the effort in
getting this event going.
Thank you and best wishes.
HAPPY DOCTORS’ DAY!

MH 17- The Farewell
It was the day the Nation grieved,
A pall of sombre darkness covered the Land.
From the distant horizon you have finally returned,
Upon the wings of a giant silver bird.
Your loved ones, your Nation have long awaited,
Your journey home for external rest,
In this Land that you so dearly loved.
Oh how blissful! Oh how sweet!
The air above, your warm water by my feet,
My mother earth to rest my head.
Yet far away, the canons’ roar,
Still remain despite God’s call,
That peace not war will settle all scores.
So that those still trapped can then go free.
To those who miss you dearly, your message is clear.
Be brave, be strong and do not despair.
Life goes on, dry up your tears.
There are fields to be toiled, children to be fed,
Their future shall be your guiding light.
In years to come, this wound shall heal,
Cry no more for at last I am home.
To all today, I shall bid farewell,
For in my prayer, tomorrow shall be a better day.
Dr. Steven Chow
22.8.2014
...adapted from a satire written in tribute to the doctors and non-doctors who stood for truth, justice and patient's safety during the Tung Shin Incident 2011......
Live not in fear
Shall we fear when Truth becomes inconvenient?
You fear other voices,
Or shall we fear to act and let lawlessness rule?
Because it tells the truth.
You fear the truth for it foretells your lies.
You fear to speak without a spin.
Your tolerance for truth has just gone thin.
Shall we fear to change for it is uncomfortable?
Power you use to suppress the truth.
Or shall we fear to speak when untruth surrounds us?
Shall we fear the law which is to protect all?
Or shall we not join the forces that make change possible?
Today, fear bridles your love for peace.
Your yearning for freedom is but a dream.
You fear to walk, less your life be snatched.
The street you once loved is now your fear.
The cells of history have many good men.
Who one day will appear to unlock the secrets,
That you so tenderly keep from the streets.
Doctors fear not when you are right.
Speak the truth and bring on the light.
Fear not the fear, where darkness hides.
You fear to complain for it puts you in a spot.
You fear to stop wrongs for it shows you weak.
You fear the law for it protects not all.
Your fear the halls of justice and the shadows behind the wall.
You heal sometimes but never shall harm.
Eventually, the fear you fear consumes you all.
Join hands together for the fight.
Our vision for a Malaysia united and bright.
Leaves your body empty of spirit and soul.
You become nothing but a falling leaf,
To be swept away into darkness like a rotting heap
Of broken men without hope or love,
Groveling for crumbs from the master’s table.
To comfort always those in need.
What gives you the strength is that you are right.
