14th World Congress on Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases
Welcome Message
It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to the 14th World Congress on Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases,
which will be held in Fukuoka, Japan from November 11 to 14, 2007. This Meeting will be held in conjunction
with the 15th Meeting of Japan Placenta Association and the 25th Meeting of Japan Trophoblast Disease
study group.
The Venue is JAL Resort Sea Hawk Hotel, located in the sea-side of Fukuoka city that will enable us to
offer attractive and comfortable accommodation with convenient access to the scientific sessions, giving us a
beautiful view of Hakata Gulf and downtown of Fukuoka city on its both sides.
Japan is very honored to host the 14th World Congress on Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases in Fukuoka
city. The scientific program will be lined up with a host of exciting and enlightening presentations by
prominent international experts on the latest developments and findings in the field of trophoblast research.
The congress will definitely provide an invaluable opportunity for friends of the region as well as those outside
the region to share experiences and exchange scientific information. The local organizing committee is making
every effort to put together an exciting program under the collaboration with the 15th Meeting of Japan
placenta Association and the 25th Meeting of Japan Trophoblastic Disease Study Group.
Fukuoka is the biggest city in Kyushu, which is a western part of Japan. I would like to extend an
invitation to you to come and visit us. Apart from the congress, I am sure you will find many attractions and
enjoy the experience of bustling and vibrant city life of Fukuoka. We warmly invite all of you, especially young
investigators, your families and those coming to visit Japan for the first time, to participate in the 14th World
Congress on Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases in Fukuoka, Japan. We very much look forward to welcoming
you in Fukuoka in November 2007.
Sincerely,
Prof. Norio Wake

Shopping
Shops and other sales outlets in Japan are generally open on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays as
well as weekdays from 10:00 to 20:00. Department stores, however, are closed on one weekday, differing by
store, and certain specialty shops may not open on Sundays and national holidays.
Currency Exchange
Only Japanese yen (¥) is acceptable at regular stores and restaurants. Certain foreign currencies may be
accepted at a limited number of hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. You can buy yen at foreign exchange
banks and other authorized money exchangers on presentation of your passport.
Traveler’s Checks and Credit Cards
Traveler’s checks are accepted only by leading banks and major hotels in principal cities, and the use of
traveler’s checks in Japan is not as popular as in some other countries. VISA, MasterCard, Diners Club, and
American Express are widely accepted at hotels, department stores, shops, restaurants and nightclubs.
Tipping
In Japan, tips are not necessary anywhere, even at hotels and restaurants.
Electricity
Electric current is uniformly 100 volts, AC, throughout Japan, but with two different cycles: 50Hz in eastern
Japan including Tokyo, and 60Hz in western Japan including Fukuoka, Kyoto and Osaka. Leading hotels in
major cities have two outlets of 100 and 220 volts but their sockets usually accept a two-leg plug only.
