“Naked Under Heaven may take the guise of a character drama or a comedy of manners,
but it is never anything less than riveting. This film trusts its audience’s intelligence; it’s a
treat to be pampered by genuine warmth on the screen. Bilowit has a firm, steady hand at
the helm, a clear eye for uncluttered composition, and an ear for music that is as
evocative as it is unexpected. Here is a welcome new voice.”

This is a movie in the tradition of film blanc:
“Some movies raise mental activity to a higher level of pleasure, even to
the extent of an epiphany. These films, which can be termed film blanc, as
they are almost a mirror image of film noir, take a lucid but tantalizing
approach that reveals only gradually, and never fully, what is happening.
By balancing narrative transparency and opacity, film blanc offers the
audience the constant pleasure of finding new clues and reshuffling them
into new patterns.”
(William Johnson, “Enigma Variations,” Film Comment v.33 Nov/Dec ‘97)

Bill Bilowit (Director) was raised in Greenwich Village, New York City by theatre-career parents.
In the 1970s, Bill was a member of Rodger Larson’s Young Filmmakers Foundation Film Club, then
became a 16mm cameraman and assistant editor on documentaries of NYC cultural events. By the
late 1970s he was creating model animation and special effects for clients such as NBC TV’s
Saturday Night Live and the cult movie Mr. Mike’s Mondo Video. In 1981 Bill created special scenic
effects for George Romero’s Creepshow, followed by feature film work as set dresser for horror
movies Nightmare, The Prowler, and Hell High, and as production designer for CHUD, Sleepaway
Camp, and the Japanese-produced docu-drama Kenny.
In 1988 Bill founded boutique production company The Show Works with Grela Orihuela, for which
he wrote and directed more than a hundred corporate marketing and promotional videos for clients
Sony Corporation (Tokyo) and Canon (USA / Tokyo).
In 2002 Bill and Grela established Tareco Pictures in Miami to produce feature films, documentaries,
shorts and music videos. Bill’s feature films as director are Naked Under Heaven shot in Los
Angeles, and Round Trip shot in Tokyo and Miami. Recent directing projects include a series of
feature length and shortform contemporary art documentaries for Wet Heat Project (2007-2013).

by high-energy music events for rock n’roll impresario Bill Graham, such as Amnesty International.
In the mid-1980s Grela moved into television broadcasting, producing ABC TV news segments, then
executive producing at the Spanish-language network Telemundo. She moved from television to
corporate media and events, freelance producing for clients such as Smith Kline French.
In 1988 Grela and Bill Bilowit founded The Show Works to produce large-scale international
corporate events, videos and multi-media, completing more than a hundred marketing and
promotional projects for clients Sony Corporation (Tokyo) and Canon (USA / Tokyo).
