Cristou/Å
o
he God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed for ever, knows that I do not lie. 32 At
Damascus, the governor under King Aretas guarded the city of Damascus in order to seize me, 33 but
I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped his hands. I must boast; there
is nothing to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ
who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven -- whether in the body or out of the body I do not
know, God knows. 3 And I know that this man was caught up into Paradise -- whether in the body or out of
the body I do not know, God knows -- 4 and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter.
5
On behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. 6
Though if I wish to boast, I shall not be a fool, for I shall be speaking the truth. But I refrain from it, so that
no one may think more of me than he sees in me or hears from me. 7 And to keep me from being too elated
by the abundance of revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to harass me, to
keep me from being too elated. 8 Three times I besought the Lord about this, that it should leave me; 9 but he
said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." I will all the more
gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
T
nd as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. 32 "If you love those who
love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33
And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For
even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what
credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. 35 But love your
enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great,
and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. 36 Be
merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

WELCOME VISITORS
We welcome all visitors to St. John’s. If you are non-Orthodox and are interested in learning who
we are and what our beliefs and practices are, we invite you to any of our Bible Study classes and
of course the Class on the Orthodox Faith. On the other hand if you are an Orthodox Christian and
are not member in another Orthodox Church we invite you (and your family) to join our parish.
(Note: While all may receive the Andidoron, the bread which is given at the conclusion of
services which of course is not consecrated, only Orthodox Christians in good standing with their
church can receive Holy Communion and other Sacraments.)
PLEASE NOTE: that the Divine Liturgy, on the first Sunday of every month, is conducted
in English. This is done so that those persons with a limited understanding of the Greek
language can understand, and participate in the worship service. The Greek language
alternates with the English language for the remainder of the month.

One Sunday morning, a mother went in to wake her son and tell him it was time to get
ready for church, to which he replied, “I’m not going.” “Why not?” She asked. “I’ll give
you two good reasons,” he said. “(1), they don’t like me, and (2), I don’t like them.” His
mother replied, “I’ll give YOU two good reasons why YOU SHOULD go to church.
(1) You’re 59 years old and (2) you’re the pastor!”
The next Philanthro Pizza fund raiser will be

ACOLYTES
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10 - An acolyte training session will be held in the church
following the Divine Liturgy. This class is required for all new acolytes. More
experienced acolytes are strongly urged to attend, in order to review procedures.
GREEK STREET is once again in the record books, and the
2010 edition was the best yet for St Johns. We could not have
done it without your help!!! We also want to take this
opportunity to thank those parish members for their generous
financial support. That
additional financial support goes a long way to help us defray
the costs of GREEK STREET and ultimately fund the important
ministries of our beloved Parish.
At GREEK STREET, a few things are certain. The hours are
long, the days are hot, the parking is terrible, and our feet hurt
at the end of each day. But working together, we can all see
past the negatives to make GREEK STREET and ultimately the
community of St. John the Baptist a success. “We are all in
this thing together.” Before you know it, GREEK STREET 2011
will be here. With your help, the parish and "family" of St.
John's can look to a bigger, better, and even more successful
GREEK STREET 2011.
THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!
