Director’s Welcome
Welcome to CAISSA
Dear CAISSA Athletes and Coaches,
It is with great pleasure ISPS welcomes you to Trinidad and Tobago and the International School of Port
of Spain! We are delighted to host the CAISSA Boys’ Basketball and Girls’ Soccer tournament and we
look forward to an exciting competition.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all participants and coaches. We
recognize the training, time and effort that all of the students have made to be here to represent their
teams and their schools. We appreciate the coaches’ commitment to basketball and soccer, and to the
development of our youth.
fostering inter-school friendships.
Thank you to our Athletics Directors and coaches for making this CAISSA experience possible. Their
dedication is recognized and appreciated by all of us.
I am sure that we will witness athletic performances of the highest quality over the course of this
championship. I encourage all athletes to do your best and compete in the spirit of sportsmanship and
fair play.
Only one team will win the first place trophy but, in reality, you are already winners - for being selected
to represent your school and participating in this event. We look forward to a tournament exemplified by
good sportsmanship, teamwork and collegiality.
So, let the games begin - play hard, have fun, and enjoy your time in T & T!!

CAISSA SPORTSMANSHIP
Sportsmanship is a very important part of being on any
team. We look forward to great competition, but also great
sportsmanship at all CAISSA events. The following is a list of
characteristics of sportsmanship that we expect to see from all
teams.

Full commitment to participation.

Respect and concern for rules and officials

Respect and concern for social conventions (shaking hands, recognizing the
good performance of an opponent)

Respect and concern for the opponent (helping a player to his/her feet,
applauding when an injured player has been helped off “court” lending one’s
equipment to the opponent, not taking advantage of injured opponents)

Avoiding poor attitude towards participation (not adopting a win-at-all-costs
approach, not showing temper after a mistake, and not competing solely for
individual prizes.)

Positive and encouraging team spirit

Positive attitude while watching and supporting other teams (cheering rather
than booing)

How players and participants conduct themselves off the court (leaving garbage,
language and general conduct)
