President’s Letter
Fellow Angus Producers,
Welcome to the 2014 edition of the Kentucky Angus Association Directory. The Board of Directors
and I hope that you will find this annual edition a valuable
source of information. The Directory contains a complete
listing of our membership and information about all KAA
activities.
It is an honor to serve as President of the Kentucky Angus
Association. Our Association was formed over 60 years
ago by several forward-thinking cattlemen. As the largest
cattle state east of the Mississippi River, Kentucky is home
to some of the best Angus cattle and cattle producers in the
nation.
Our Association has many benefits of membership, including participation in the Sweepstakes Show and Sale, Preview
Show, field days, annual Christmas party, and inclusion in
the annual directory. Students nine years old through twenty-one can join and participate as junior members. However , the biggest benefit is the life-long friendships that are
made in an organization of people who share similar values.
If you have any questions about our Association please
contact our Secretary, Anne Clark, any of our Directors or
myself. We’ll be glad to help in any way we can.
Sincerely,
James S. Coffey

2nd generation Angus breeder
The Rose Hill Angus herd was started in 1937 and dispersed on April 21, 1977.
In Tom Burke’s sale manager comments;
The End of a Dynasty. Only after long and deliberate study was the decision made to disperse the pioneer H.
B. Branstetter and Sons Rose Hill herd. Thursday, April 21, 1977, will mark the end of over three decades of the
building and breeding of Angus oasis.
The Rose Hill herd represents a span of four generations, and now this pioneer breeding establishment must
be scattered to the four winds. The untimely death of Jerry Branstetter, one of the most enthusiastic people I
knew in the Angus business, has necessitated this liquidation. This tragedy has left a great void in the Angus
industry, as I know that Jerry Branstetter had many friends and great respect, both as an individual and a breeder
of quality cattle.

Section D
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, makes annual
appropriations of $6,000 per annum for the promotion of the Kentucky Angus

per annum must be used by advertising and promoting the Show and Sale,
including the cost of printing the official programs and the sale catalogs.
The state appropriation must be matched by nomination fees or charges.
The exact amount and distribution of the premiums will be determined by
the Committee with the approval of the Board of Directors of the Kentucky
Angus Association. The annual premium funds have been and will be among
the largest amounts of any one breed show in any state. In addition to the
premiums which will be provided, there will be handsome trophies provided
by Kentucky merchants, manufacturers, businessman and individuals.
Section E
This program will give every boy and girl who owns one or more registered
Angus females an opportunity to participate in the Show and to consign an
animal or animals to the Sale. Their cattle will be exposed for sale to a large
crowd of buyers and prospective buyers. Small breeders will be afforded an
unusual opportunity to participate and win sizable cash premiums, attractive
trophies, and an exceptional opportunity to sell their better bulls and heifers.
This will apply to small breeders, not only in Kentucky, but also in nearby
or adjoining states who may participate on equal terms in this program with
their offspring of the Kentucky-bred bulls and females. No other similar show
or sale in any other state now offers comparable premiums or comparable
promotion and sale opportunities through the consignments.

Saturday in March and the preceding Friday of each year must be delivered
to the Show and Sale Manager before a deadline which will be set by the
Sweepstakes committee, and the applicable nominating fees paid prior to the
deadline for entries. The nominating fee for each animal is $150. The Show
and Sale Manager will be hired by the Kentucky Angus Association, and from
his salary the manager will pay for all secretarial work. Each nominator and
consignor will be required to pay the normal stall fees. Any deductions to be
made from the sale price of the animal shall include $35 for each consignor
who has not previously, during the current year, paid the annual dues as

GENESEEK ANGUS GGP-HD—
FIND THE BEST FASTER!
The GeneSeek® Angus GGP-HD is available from Angus Genetics Inc.
(AGI) through its partnership with GeneSeek, a Neogen® company.
Genomic-enhanced EPDs (GE-EPDs) derived from the GeneSeek Angus GGP-HD deliver:
•
•
•
•
Power: The GeneSeek Angus GGP-HD was developed using the most powerful genomic tools
available, and is the new standard for Angus genetic testing.
Accuracy: Molecular breeding values, combined with traditional EPDs, increase the accuracy
of trait prediction and are proven to predict true genetic merit earlier in life. The GeneSeek
GGP-HD features nearly 78,000 SNPs for highly accurate GE-EPDs. Don’t settle for anything
less than the best.
Value: Why wait two or more years and spend precious resources to prove an animal’s
value? Time is money, and genomics allows you to make a decision today on the value of that
animal.
Simplicity: Using a single DNA sample, you can receive not only a genomic profile, but also
parentage and genetic defect testing for the best value.

In 0951 we have combined the outstanding calving-ease and performance
characteristics of his sire SydGen Mandate 6079 with the unequaled maternal
characteristics of his dam Three Trees Forever Lady 3901. Seldom can you find
a bull with this combination of Calving-Ease - Performance - Maternal Stayability. If you raise breeding stock or sell your cattle by the pound and
retain heifers as replacements, you owe it to yourself to take a look at this bull.
0951 currently has several sons working as herd sires in Kentucky, Illinois,
Tennessee and Oklahoma, including the Lot 1, high-indexing sale bull in the
2012 Purdue University IBEP Winter Test, CHF 0951 Royal Flush 1204.
This son posted an ADG of 4.89 lbs. per day in the IBEP test and sold to
Triple S Angus in Camargo, Illinois.
