Hiab Pallet forks
Handling loads with a pallet fork has a number of
advantages. Above all a pallet fork is less expensive than
the main alternative – a brick grab. Also, since the load is
palletized and lifted from underneath, it is possible to lift
many different types of loads, both soft and flexible loads
as well as solid ones. In addition, some pallet fork models
can just be hooked on, without a rotator or hydraulic
connection. The various types of pallet forks available
differ essentially from each other in three ways: the
weight of loads they can handle, how the centre of gravity
is controlled and the way prong spread is adjusted. What
affects your choice of pallet fork is the loads you need to
handle and how flexible you want to be. We recommend
that you give purchasing a pallet fork careful consideration before coming to a final decision.

Main pallet fork features
What kind of pallet fork suits you?
Entirely manual adjustments
Self-shifting centre of gravity – manual adjustments
Our pallet fork KM 414 is a budget alternative when you
need to keep things simple and straightforward. You can
lift loads weighing up to 2000 kg depending on the fork
dimensions you choose. You can shift the centre of gravity
manually just by changing the position of the attachment. The height and width of this pallet fork model are
manually adjustable, stepwise, by means of pin-locks.
Attachments for hook as well as flange and shaft rotator
are available.
A straightforward and affordable solution.
The pallet fork KM 415 is an affordable option offering
more functionality. It features automatic compensation
and adjustment of the centre of gravity depending on
load, the compression springs returning the slide to its
initial position when unloaded. The height and width of
this pallet fork are adjusted manually, and set stepwise by
means of pin-locks. Depending on fork dimensions it lifts
loads ranging up to 2000 kg. Attachments for hook as well
as flange and shaft rotator are available.
A practical and cost effective solution.

KM 401, KM 401H
Self-shifting centre of gravity – prongs
with spindle adjustments
The KM 401 pallet fork has shelf-shifting centre of gravity
by a compression spring like the KM 415. The KM 401H
is more sophisticated with hydraulically operated gravity
compensation. Combined with a rotator this ensures very
accurate positioning and optimal manoeuvrability. As no
part of these pallet forks is wider than the prongs, they
are perfectly suitable for cramped spaces. Loads close
to the truck’s side boards or right alongside other loads
are handled with ease. The height of these pallet forks is
adjusted manually, stepwise and set by means of a pinlock. Width is adjusted with a smooth-running spindle.
Attachments for hook as well as flange and shaft rotator
are available for the KM 401. Attachments for flange and
shaft rotator are available for the KM 401H.
A reliable and sophisticated solution.
KM 461
Universal fork
The KM 461 has been designed for handling sheets of
drywall or other types of sheet building materials. It is
available with adjustable prong spread up to 1830 mm
depending on model. To make load handling safer the
boards are lifted, turned vertical and then clamped
between the prongs and frame, preventing them from
sliding. The fork is also fitted with a load handling valve
to prevent it from unintentionally opening if a pressure
drop occurs. Attachments for flange and shaft rotator
are available.
A high quality, value-adding solution.

Hook
The right connection
Upper link
Rotator
with shaft
Rotator
with flange
A pallet fork can be attached to your crane by hanging it in
the crane hook or rotator hook – or attaching it directly to
the rotator. The hook option requires that the pallet fork
is equipped with a suitable attachment for a hook. With
the rotator option you first need an upper link attached
to the tip of the crane boom. This link creates a distance
between rotator and crane tip, enabling free movement
for the rotator and tool. The second device – the rotator
providing rotational movement – is attached to the upper
link. Most common is the flange rotator. An alternative
could be a rotator with shaft. Both require suitable attachments to connect it to the pallet fork.
The hydraulically operated pallet forks also require a
hose kit to supply hydraulic oil from the rotator to the
pallet fork. There are many different kinds of couplings
and hoses available depending on pallet fork model. In a
Hiab pallet fork package all selected parts from the hook
or upper link down to the pallet fork are included and fit
perfectly. Which hoses and couplings you will need to
supply the rotator with hydraulic oil depend on the crane
you operate. Hiab will assist you in getting the right kit.

The rotator is an important, often overlooked, workhorse
in load-handling solutions. A reliable, precise and sturdy
rotator is a must when handling loads, especially heavy or
bulky ones – with great precision. A wide range of rotators
is available, to ensure there is always one appropriate
for your needs. Turning motion comes via a gear-type
or vane-type rotator. The gear-type enables a somewhat
higher degree of precision in its movements. As well as
different drive types you can choose between a shaft- or
flange attachment, the latter giving the most firm and
direct connection to an accessory.
Endless possibilities
A wide range of attachments is available
to make sure that there is always an easy
way to attach your accessory to the crane,
regardless which accessory or rotator you
might choose.
Ensuring predictable rotation
Hose kit
A gear-type 4.5 tonne flange rotator provides
you with direct and predictable control of
most loads. The flange can be mounted on
the upper part of a Hiab ToolXChanger™
thus adding second-to-none flexibility
when changing.
The hose kit needed to supply hydraulic
accessories with oil is included in our
convenient Hiab accessory packages. The
hose kit supplying the rotator with hydraulic
oil depends on the crane you operate. Hiab
will assist you in getting the right kit.

Details that matter
Accessories
Pallet forks differ from each other in more ways than the
weight they can carry. Technical solutions range from
being straightforward and manual to sophisticated and
hydraulic. For instance, attachment to a crane can either
be with, or without, a rotator. Control of centre of gravity
and prong spread is also solved in various ways. Give
careful consideration to customer requirements – present
and future – before opting for the solution that suits
your needs.
Various types of accessories can make your business even
more efficient. Some accessories make your work faster,
some make it safer and some make you more versatile.
When planning to purchase an accessory to suit your
needs, take a look at Hiab’s wide selection.
Attachment
Centre of gravity
Various pallet forks are available,
from entirely manual “hook-on”
pallet forks to hydraulically controlled pallet forks with rotator.
The centre of gravity is
regulated manually, automatically or hydraulically.
Manual adjustment by the
operator is accomplished merely
by moving the attachment until
balance occurs. Automatic
adjustment is achieved by a
compression spring compensating for the change in the centre
of gravity.
Hydraulic adjustment of the
centre of gravity is achieved
by a hydraulic cylinder, and is
very accurately controlled by
the operator.
Prong spread
Easy prong adjustments guarantee optimal load distribution for
a variety of pallet sizes. Spread is
adjusted manually. The pin-lock
solution provides stepwise
adjustment of spread. The
spindle solution adjusts spread
continuously and smoothly
making it extremely flexible.
Adjustable height
All models – apart from KM 461 – are adjustable in height. Adjustment is made stepwise
by means of pin-locks.
The next job is just seconds away
If you need maximum flexibility to change
attachments easily – going from a bucket to a
forklift, then to a brick grab and back to a
bucket again – all in the same day – you really
need a Hiab ToolXChanger™. No need to disconnect and reconnect any greasy oil hoses.
No need to find that missing spanner. In less
than a minute the attachment is changed – in
just one easy hand-grip operation.
Safety chain
Quick attachment
A safety chain is mandatory when working
with goods on a pallet fork (EN 13155).
