Unintentional injury is the leading cause of
death and disability for children from birth to
14 years of age.
Education and prevention programs can significantly
reduce these injuries.
The University of Iowa Children’s Hospital Safety
Store and Safe Escape program were created to
improve the health and well-being of all children
by offering families injury prevention safety products
and education.
These programs are made possible by a $100,000
grant awarded by the National Association of
Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions and
the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under
the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s
Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
