It is about eight years since the introduction of the „Street Bob“ with
which Harley-Davidson once again
moved the Dyna model line into the
spotlight: Always a motorcycle „pure
and raw“, the modern Dynas have lived up to their reputation for being
extremely ridable performers. A motorcycle for connoisseurs that enjoy
the thrill of V-twin power at your command just by twisting the throttle.
Underlining and strenghtening this
characterisation, Nuernberg-based
authorised Harley-Davidson Dealer
Fritz Jonak did nothing to hide the
street-performing nature of his first
„Bolt On and Ride“ bike. Why should
he? His shop has homologated the
131 Cubic Inch Jim‘s motor for German road-use and they know performance. Although the 2014 „Bolt On
and Ride“ Dyna was not equipped
with the 131 Cubic-Incher, there is
some power boost as well as more
than the usual upgrade in style! This
is a bike that was built from the riding experience on the narrow and
twisting roads of the „Franconian
Switzerland“ between Nuernberg
and Bayreuth – and all roads that
come close!
ride around. At the introduction, the matt-black colour
also marked a change in Harley-Davidson attitude, no
longer were the Milwaukee-made bikes shiny chrome
rides, this was a rider with „attitude“.

„In almost a decade in existence, this bike has created a lot of attention on the Dyna model range and this
will most likely continue“, states CCE Managing Director Andreas Scholz, „we see no indication that HarleyDavidson would discontinue such a successful model
– and you can‘t escape the character of both engine
and motorcycle when you ride it!“ Ever since starting
BOTTOM: Taming the „Black Bull“ for the first time
near the new CCE Warehouse in Grolsheim.
When introduced for the 2006 model year, expectations
were not too high: The FXDB represented a minimized
version of the FX model line, which can trace its history
back to Harley-Davidson‘s first „factory custom“, the FX
„Super Glide“ of 1971, initiated by the director of styling
Willie G. Davidson. For years, the FX series, defined
by their rubber-mounted engines that offer great riding
comfort, had kind of faded away. Interest by public, riders and customizers disappeared, as well-designed
and great riding machines like the 2001-2003 FXDX-T
Super Glide T-Sport, featuring fork mounted fairing and
detachable saddlebags, flopped in sales.

The „Street Bob“ was the model that sure turned the
tide: Although the model designator FXDB had been
used on the 1991 „Sturgis“ Dyna Glide, it came back
on the „Street Bob“. No doubt was the very competitive
price a major boost in selling the bike in great numbers,
but Harley-Davidson also did a good job to „minimize“
the motorcycle to its essentials: Wheels, frame, engine
– and a wide handlebar to put a firm grip for trashing the

„Street Bob“ in the garage, underlining the importance
of this model and the Dyna line in general.

This year, the authority of modifying the Bolt On and
Ride „Street Bob“ was given to Nuernberg-based authorised Dealer Fritz Jonak, who operates a well respected authorised dealership that is taking care of
clients all over Franconia. His mission: Improve the
bike where neccessary, keep the stock character and
present the latest CCE custom parts for the Dyna Mo-
del range. Engine performance was improved by the
now routine addition of the ThunderMax module, the
mapping system that improves torque and power curves as well as optimizing the fuel consumption – in this
case up to 77 hp and 134 Nm. Quite healthy for a quick
ride through Franconian Switzerland, the rocky hillsides north of Nuernberg. BSL „Scale Drager“ exhaust
system grants a grumbling sound for the ride and the
only other engine additions are Performance Machine
“Drive” covers, CCE‘s “Custom Skull” air cleaner and
the exchange of the stock primary for BDL‘s narrow 2”

Changes to the rolling chassis – the frame remained
untouched – include a new swingarm by Fred Kodlin
to mount a 240 rear tire. The 240 Dyna rear with Fred
Kodlin Dyna Swingarm Kit is established for years, offering the fat look that everybody wants: Solid wide end
swingarm kit, designed for all HD Dyna models from
2006 up, fitting „Street Bob“, „Fat Bob“ and others featuring 25 mm axle. Allows the mounting of 240 rear

tires without offset-kit. Advanced chromed 3D design
belt tensioners at the end of the swingarm. The paintwork is protected by metal inserts, thus offering perfect
function and long lasting clean look. Passenger footpeg mounts are included and the OEM belt guard can
be retained. The „Black Bull“ tailend is equipped with
a set of Legend Air air-ride shocks. The stock spoke
wheels were swapped for a complete set of CNC-machined RevTech „Supercharger“ wheels, 8.50 x 18’’ (for
the Avon 240) at the rear and the bigger sized 3.50 x
23’’ (in contrary to the stock 21 incher) at the front. A 2”

lowering kit by Progressive Suspension compensates
for the bigger wheel radius. The front end – stock by
origin – was upgraded with JOS full fork covers for a
fat look and a touch of chrome. The wheels – as usual
– are accompanied by the fitting „Supercharger“ design brake rotors and pulley, plus RevTech four piston
calipers at the front. Notably, the 23-size front does fit
without any modifications, only the fender has to be
chosen from CCE‘s catalogue pages to comfort the
bigger diameter.

Since Harley-Davidson has upgraded the Street-Bob
from its sinister matt-black origin long since (there are
even colour options available!), HD Nuernberg and Custom Chrome Europe charmed the gloss-black 2014
factory paint with lots of chrome: 5 ¾” “Plug and Play”
headlight by Namz, CCE “Custom Skull” air filter, Arlen
Ness “adjustable handlebar” and 3D Cateye mirrors,
Performance Machine controls and BSL‘s eyecatching
„Scale Drager“ exhaust, dominating the right side of the
engine. Bodywork comes from the main „Street Bob“
parts suppliers – Rick‘s solid 23 Inch metal front fender
and Fred Kodlin‘s metal tailend. The fuel tank remained
stock with the handmade Xtrem seat fitting perfectly the
smooth lines.

For road-testing the „Bull“ we can highly recommend,
probably except on weekends (when motorcyclists,
day-trippers and expensive photographers line the
roads) the 118 km plus tour Ebermannstadt - Pottenstein - Mistelbach (Bayreuth) - Behringersmühle -Plankenfels - Aufseß - Ebermannstadt/Forchheim, which
can also be extended for the return to Nuernberg via
Pegnitz - Neuhaus - Hersbruck. Pure motorcyle roads
with twisting turns and roaring straights – just what the
„Street Bob“ was built for. But honestly: Any great motorcycle road will do – tame the „Black Bull“ and then
ride it!

ALL IMAGES: Getting into details, the RevTech „Supercharger“ wheels, brake disc and drive pulley are
distinctive features of the design. With many different styles and the „Midnight Series“ option it has
become hard to select a wheel from CCE‘s ever-growing wheel program. The neat sidemount license
plate holder comes from „Made by Pistor“.
While manufactured by two competing „Street Bob“
customizers, the Fred Kodlin tailend and Rick‘s 23Inch front fender fit just perfectly. Both are made

brands. Legendary names as Ardie, Victoria, Hercules, Zündapp
and Triumph (the independent German brand) manufactured their
motorcycles in this highly industrial town. Harley-Davidson always
had a local crowd of loyal followers in Franconia and Harley-Davidson Nürnberg serves a huge area around Nuernberg.
2011 Harley-Davidson Nürnberg moved into a new, bigger and better Location at Nürnberg-Langwasser, close to the Messe Nürnberg
(Trade Fair) and quick success to several „Autobahns“ that connect

When Fritz Jonak introduced this scoop on February 11th 2012 during the introduction of the new Harley-Davidson Modelle „Seventy-Two“ and „Softail Slim“, two bikes – one Bagger-style that was
sold at the spot and one Dyna „Fat Bob“ were equipped with the
radical „131“ engine. The latter was drag-raced by Stunt-Pro Rainer
Schwarz against the Shelby Mustang of Stefan Gausters and filmed:
