Light Our Way
Year of Mercy
Practical Tips for the Month of Mary
Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself will give you a
sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall
call his name Immanuel.
Mary, Mother of Mercy
Pope John Paul II described how Mary received God’s mercy
in its fullness and continues to let it overflow toward us. He
explains that she is the one who knows the mystery of God’s
mercy the best, and therefore is the greatest one to help us to
enter into that same mystery. Here are some of his words from
his document Dives Misericordia explaining why Mary is the
one who knows God’s mercy best:
Luke 1:42 - “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the
fruit of your womb!”
John 2:3-5 - When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to
him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “O woman,
what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His
mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
John 19:26-27 - When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple
whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, “Woman,
behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your
mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own
home.
Revelation 12:1 - and a
great portent appeared in
heaven, a woman clothed
with the sun, with the
moon under her feet, and
on her head a crown of
twelve stars;
Catholic-link.org
Lighthouse CD Spotlight
“Mary is the one who obtained mercy
in a particular and exceptional way, as
no other person has…No one has
experienced, to the same degree as the
Mother of the crucified One, the
mystery of the cross, the overwhelming
encounter of divine transcendent justice
with love: that ‘kiss’ given by mercy to
justice. No one has received into his
heart, as much as Mary did, that
mystery, that truly divine dimension of
the redemption effected on Calvary by means of the death of
the Son, together with the sacrifice of her maternal heart,
together with her definitive ‘fiat.’ Mary, then, is the one who
has the deepest knowledge of the mystery of God’s mercy. She
knows its price, she knows how great it is. In this sense, we call
her the Mother of mercy: our Lady of mercy, or Mother of
divine mercy; in each one of these titles there is a deep
theological meaning, for they express the special preparation of
her soul, of her whole personality, so that she was able to
perceive, through the complex events, first of Israel, then of
every individual and of the whole of humanity, that mercy of
which ‘from generation to generation’ people become sharers
according to the eternal design of the most Holy Trinity.”
Next week we will hear what Pope John Paul II said about how
Mary helps us enter into God’s mercy.
The Seven Levels of Intimacy
True intimacy means sharing who we really are with another
person. We have to move beyond the clichés in conversation
and get beneath the surface which involves taking a risk
because in doing this, our weaknesses and imperfections will be
made known. Matthew teaches practical ways to share
ourselves more deeply with those we love and change the way
we approach our relationships forever.
CD’s are available in
the Gathering Space for
$3.00 each.
Pope Quote
"Human beings, whenever they judge, look
no farther than the surface, whereas the
Father looks into the very depths of the soul.
... To refrain from judgment and
condemnation means, in a positive sense, to
know how to accept the good in every person and to spare him
any suffering that might be caused by our partial judgment and
our presumption to know everything about him. But this is still
not sufficient to express mercy. Jesus asks us also to forgive
and to give. To be instruments of mercy because it was we who
first received mercy from God.”

No hace falta estudiar idiomas,
pide con humildad y amor. Pero, como nadie da lo que no tiene;
