H O L Y R E D E E M E R P A R I S H N E W S Humbled or Exalted? A few weeks ago (22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time) we had a Gospel about humility in social life today we hear the Lord reiterating the message, but this time in reference to our prayer lives. The two Gospels are linked by the last words today, which also appear in the other story: Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted. This phrase is obviously a key part of our Lord’s teaching! The sin of self-exaltation consists in putting others in a lower place as the Pharisee does to the tax collector. Perhaps the most telling phrase in today’s Gospel is where Jesus refers to the Pharisee saying this prayer to himself, rather than offering it to God! And since the Pharisee wasn’t talking to God, how could he expect to be heard? Elgin Street Mission: Silent/Live Auction & Fund Raising Stitching a Solidarity Quilt across Canada The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (D&P) will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2017. To commemorate 50 years of solidarity work with countries of the Global South, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE has launched the stitching of a ‘Solidarity Quilt’ that is travelling the country from West to East (British Columbia to Ontario) and from East to West (Newfoundland to Quebec). The nation-wide pilgrimage was launched on Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2016 with the first squares of the quilt stitched in St. John’s, Newfoundland and in Victoria, British Columbia. Since then each Canadian diocese has been invited to add a square to the quilt as it passes through. All are invited to attend a special Pilgrimage Mass which will be celebrated by Bishop Marcel Damphousse, on Sunday November 6 at 11:00 AM at Ste. Anne de Pins Church in Sudbury, when the two quilt pieces from the Anglophone and Francophone D&P Diocesan Councils of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie will be added to the growing quilt. When the patches complete their pilgrimage just before Easter of 2017, they will be sewn together to create a huge quilt; a work of human hands that will represent the solidarity that has been lived by Canadians and people of the Global South throughout the 50 year history of DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE. Philip Chircop, S.J. This retreat finds its inspiration in the human heart’s longing for belonging. We all yearn to belong and be “at home” in our own skin, at home in the community, at home in the world and at home in the universe that hosts us. Quite often, numbed by lack of presence, focus and attention, we live a deeply fragmented and dismembered life. This way of life divides us within ourselves, thinking one thing, feeling another, and doing a third. We will thus explore a few basic “stitches” that can sew our lives together again into one “seamless garment”. Cost: $230.00, all inclusive (a non-refundable $30 deposit is required with registration) For more information and registration 705-522-3502 ext. 0 or [email protected] Individual Looking for a Day Time Walking Buddy 74 year old healthy female is looking for a female walking buddy in the Autumnwood /Minnow Lake area. PARISH INFORMATION - Phone 705-566-8330 Justification is knowing who God is and what our relationship to God is. It is addressing God as God and letting God be God. It is acknowledging humbly who we are before God: sinners in need of mercy. The exaltation at the end of time is determined by whether we are justified, that is, humble and in right relationship to God. Good works alone don’t justify us—it is right relationship with God. This is our exaltation—humbly seeking and standing before our God. 2016 Living Liturgy™ For Sundays and Solemnities, Liturgical Press JOINING OUR COMMUNITY If this is your spiritual home we invite you to register with the parish.
