“Holy Silence”
I am sure that everyone has heard the expression,
“Silence is Golden.” This statement is so true in
this day and age. We are bombarded with noise from the
time we are awakened from sleep by our alarm clock to
the time we finally lay down to sleep. Ours is a society
of multi-tasking, of smart phones, the Internet, e-mails
and voice mails. There are people clamoring for our
attention at all times – children, spouses, colleagues and
those who want us to buy something. How about those
telemarketers who always seem to call, at the worst
possible time despite the so-called No Call List.
And then we come to Church on a Sunday where we run
across people we haven’t seen in a while. We greet one
another and our constant noise environment extends into
the Worship Space as we share news and comments.
Unfortunately, the Worship Space or Sanctuary is not a
place for the continuation of our noisy lives. The
Worship is a place for “Holy Silence” both before and
after Mass. Yes, we do hope and pray that everyone
leaves Mass in a joyful state of mind as they take Christ
with them.
In respect for those who wish to spend some quiet time
with the Lord following Mass or before Mass, we ask that
everyone keep Holy Silence so that others may pray.
Please refrain from loud discussions before and after
Mass and parents please do not allow your children to use
the Worship Space as a place to run around and play.
The Vestibule serves as a place for Gathering and
Community. Please use it as such.
This summer all the chairs in the Worship Space were
cleaned. Many were stained with juice or food particles.
Please respect those around you and the Church by
refraining from bringing drinks and foodstuff into the
Church.
