Letter from Mike Zafirovski,
Macedonia 2025 Chairman
Welcome to Ohrid and to the first annual Macedonia Global Investment
Summit! On behalf of Macedonia 2025, our sponsors and supporters, I
would like to thank you for your attendance and participation in this
valuable, professional Summit.
Globally, we are experiencing many economic challenges and
unfortunately it does not look like a quick turnaround for Europe. Many
economists believe this crisis will take years to work out. However, I still
believe that it is very possible for developing countries like Macedonia to
grow faster than the global or Euro economies. The realities of the country’s
situation of low cost, available employees, strategic location, attractive tax
rates and incentives for investment should be a competitive advantage
for growth. But it will require confidence, urgency and resolve to move
the country forward by all the stakeholders (employers, employees, the
government, the education system, and the Diaspora).
Because of this, we believe that it is a perfect time to explore the potential
opportunities and strengthen the platform to build future partnerships
and relationships. Through our combined expertise, knowledge and
international contracts, we can together help in developing communication
and strategies that suggest and enforce long term successes for local
companies, investors and diaspora members.
The Investment Summit is a forum that has been organized to benefit
relationship and continue to help build the bridges between Macedonian
businesses, Diaspora businesses professionals, and foreign investors. Our
goal is to inspire people to become innovative and help businesses to
become competitive in the global market.

Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. Individuals
attending are comprised of top professional elites, credible leaders, and individuals with a clear and
recognizable successful business track record and vision of success.
H.E. Mr. Roman Waschuk – Ambassador of Canada to the Republic of Macedonia
“For me as Canadian Ambassador, participating in the Macedonia 2025 Global Investment Summit is a
great opportunity to sum up investment successes so far, and tap into the entrepreneurial spirit of the
Macedonian Diaspora that I’ve seen and experienced both back home in Toronto and Windsor, and in
projects here in Skopje and beyond.”
Mr. Viktor Mizo CEO of Directorate for technological industrial development zones
“Successful investments and the positive experience of foreign companies that have already invested in
Macedonia, and most of all the cases when the same companies reinvest in our country, are the best indicator of the good business climate, favorable working conditions and Macedonian potential. The Global
Investment Summit in Ohrid will be a great opportunity for presentation of these positive experiences of
the foreign investors and the opportunities to generate profit in Macedonia in front of the Macedonian
Diaspora. We have many successful Macedonians who enjoy good reputation in the global business community and the potential future cooperation with them would be great honor for us.”
Mr. Jatin Thakrar, CEO of Johnson Matthey, Macedonia
“I hope that the panelists will share their positive experiences as well as some of the challenges that have
to be addressed when doing business in Macedonia. We are very pleased with our local work force that
with little experience has quickly adapted to our needs and demonstrated continuous commitment and
dedication.”
“Combining both tasks works well in a company that focuses on innovation and tailor-made craftsmanship. He knows very well the markets, the needs of his customers, and the feasibility of new projects.
He has not the traditional supplier – customer approach towards clients, but always has a long-term
partnership in mind. Although he is passionate about the bus and coach business, Filip does not lose his
focus on budgets and cost control.” ‘Measuring is knowing, both technically as financially’

Vera Stavroff, President and CEO of HerbalScience Inc. and AlkaloidUSA; Co-founder of GreenBeauty and
Board Member of Macedonia 2025
“One of the most significant education initiatives that we have established this year is the International
Education Council. This initiative includes identifying prominent academic and scientific Diaspora members and mobilizing their potentials towards developing education in Macedonia. We know of remarkable
scientists, professors and researchers from the Diaspora, who have the capacity and the knowledge to expand the international programs offered by the Macedonian education institutions, to help them develop
strategic partnerships with foreign institutions, develop the capacity for research and development, etc.
They are very enthusiastic to promote the Macedonian education, and it is our duty as an organization
to create the platform for these remarkable individuals to join forces and contribute to their homeland”.
John Bitove - Chair of Business Development and Events Committee, Principal shareholder of Obelysk
“Macedonia 2025 has been assisting in many regards to help support economic development in Macedonia. There are two important parts of economic development. One is to attract and retain foreign
investors, the other is to build an innovative, competitive atmosphere where entrepreneurs are able to
strive and be successful. Our goal is to assist on both fronts. “
Andy Peykoff, Founder of Niagara Bottling, USA and Board Member of Macedonia 2025
“My business experiences are a combination of many years of trial and error, learning step by step, and
working hard and long enough to power through all our mistakes. We have comprehensive business
knowledge and can teach, motivate, encourage and support young Macedonian entrepreneurs to create
successful business stories.”
Emil Hristov, CEO of EMSA Solar LLC, USA and Board Member of Macedonia 2025
SUMMIT 2012
“Foreign investors should know that Macedonia has the potential for their business interests. The competitive labour and agricultural resources of Macedonia are only few of them. In addition, local businessmen should focus on production of products with higher added value. That way they will become more
competitive.”
